In many sci-fi stories I hear of longevity drugs, or drugs that make you live longer, and increase health. In reality, these may help, but they may damage or disorient your brain and body. Do you think that longevity drugs are good?

People that wanted to live more time are those that have reasons to continue living, there are a lot of people that is afraid to the idea of die, undoubtedly being old one hardly enjoys the life, at least that you have good health wink .

I don't know about the stability of such drugs, but I personally wouldn't want to extend my life, if I can't take care of myself.
I really don't want to be living if I can't do anything for myself. I'm just useless and in the way bringing love one's down, keeping them from living their life. The only way to keep yourself fit is to live a healthy lifestyle. Which I know I'm not, so I might be looking into dr. assisted suicide at 75.. hahah JOking.. ook...

NasaFan In many sci-fi stories I hear of longevity drugs, or drugs that make you live longer, and increase health. In reality, these may help, but they may damage or disorient your brain and body. Do you think that longevity drugs are good? Well, that would depend entirely upon just what kind of drug you're talking about. Realistically, any drug that in some way prolongs the span of your life could be considered a longevity drug, even if it's doing it by proxy of some other effort, such as reducing the risk of heart or cardiovascular disease, cancer in some form, and so forth. Many of the drugs that do these things do come with the risk of side effects, as well, so I think that fits the bill of what you're talking about pretty closely. As for whether or not I'd use them, or I guess if I think they're good was your question, I would and I believe they are. Life is a risky business statistically, so while odds are hugely stacked in favor of me dying, I don't exactly want it to happen any sooner than it needs to. Particularly so if it's easily preventable with the treatments available to us today.

That is true, there are many types of drugs that can be used to extend your life in different ways. I should say... If I was old and dying I would choose to die. If I was sick and dying..I would consider other options as far as what treatments I could take, and what would prolong my life longest.

If I were old and had lived my life, I'd just let myself go. If I were to start dying in the next 30 years, I'd look at my options. If I were a veggie, I'd want out. I also wouldn't want to be old and just sitting around. By increasing my lifetime I just give more time to the part of life where you're just too old to do just about anything except watch reruns.
What is it about death that is so scary? Is it just the unknown of death that is so unbearable? For me, it is leaving those I care about that saddens me. I enjoy my own company, but I still enjoy the company of others at times.

I wonder, though, if you're still being productive to society or still have an interest in living a bit longer and the ability to purchase the means by which to live a bit longer, why not choose to endure a bit longer?

Did any of you happen to see the Morgan Spurlock show 30 days? He had one guy on there doing the longevity drugs and it ended up hurting him pretty badly.
As the saying goes... Eat right, exercise, die anyways.

Well if I'm old and productive... nah...I probably wouldn't really care much to live, I mean you live your life ...and I think you get to a point where you've had enough.
Personally I just don't think I would want to prolong my life if I've already lived the most of it.
I like what Akira stated! haha Right on!

See now, if these drugs could also keep me young and healthy then yes, I would like to live longer...otherwise, I want to die an Old man in his sleep who knows that he has properly educated his children and grand children in both moral and any other studies, such as science, or art, or anything else they desire to do in life. That and as long as I am somehow remembered, to be put in a text book or history book would be cool. mrgreen

I don't want to be more confused than I already am... And plus I think I take enough pills and stuff... So I think it would be bad for your health anyway If it hurts you than don't take it!

It's probably not any more bad for your health than any thing one can take now anyways. I mean every drug out there has some sort of "sideeffect", that's just the fancy word for "it's not good for you".

Well, in definitive I don't oppose myself to the drugs that prolong the life, I am tied to many medications and without them I don’t know if I would continue alive (don't ask me about my illness, I don't like to talk about it emo ).
