WOW! I can't believe that Break Free is closing in on it's second year! *cries tears of joy* This year was interesting, to say the least-- we all made new friends (and lost some old ones), learned more about our favorite band, and most importantly, had a lot of fun.

For those of you who weren't around to celebrate with us last year, here's the run down: The guild throws a big party starting on June 30th, running for about a week in a special subforum. We do all sorts of fun things like raffle off Queen-related items, dress up as people related to the band's songs or history, have contests-- all that.

So far, I've planned a few things for us to do, but I really want everyone to contribute ideas for maximum fun. We only have ten days to pull this off, so in about three days, I'll close this thread off and have the staff help me get to work on the actuall forum. Donations to the guild are much appreciated-- last year the staff attempted to foot the bill for the gand prize and I don't think that worked out to well. rofl xd Send donations to a staff member, please.

Ideas so far:

2nd Annual Costume Contest - Everyone dresses up as something Queenie and we vote on the best/most creative/interesting outfits.

Ball - Freddie would kill us if we didn't dance! wink

Prize Raffle - self-explanatory.

Cool, I love Gaia parties. razz You could do what my other guild did and make a thread in Gaia Commerce, inviting everybody who had an interest in the subject to attend and such, including people from other, similar guilds. That'd take a lot of work, but it's something to think about, I guess.

Hmm, the only other idea I have is like... a fanart contest or something. Just some kind of art thing.

We actually had a fanart contest last year! xd I think Fairy ran it-- I'll have to ask her how successful it was. whee

As for inviting others? Well... this is sort of a "family" party, but that sounds like a fun thing to do another time. I'll stow that away and harrass you about it later. whee

The fanart thread was pretty successful. Now that we have many more active people, I think it'd be a big sucess.

I think awards like they'd give you in clubs, sports, etc. would be interesting. Ex.: "Guild Clown", "Best Dressed", "Most Random", etc.

So, Popo, are staff members going to be included in this years costume contest? xd Also, I think it'd be a better idea if we let everyone come as what they want-- even if there's two of something. Trying to keep track of what everyone wanted to come as last year was pretty stressful.

*Donates 1000 gold just for this occasion*

I like the awards that Fairy Feller suggested would ROCK. Absolutely ROCK.

I like the fan-art compettition, maybe we could have a "Trivia" challenge or two (Like, who knows the most lyrics, who knows the most on the members themselves...etc). But, that's just a suggestion. I can see where it might run into problems, "how will you give the answer," but I haven't gotten that far yet.

This idea is a little hard to do, but I just thought I might mention it since it popped into my head... Basically, someone takes clips of certain parts and pieces of various Queen songs and, for ease of downloading and listening, puts them on YouTube with no marking or anything. Then you have a game where you try to guess which song the specific clips are from, each person getting one song. Of course, it would progressively move to harder and more obscure songs as time went on, with the winner crowned and given some prizes or something. razz The clips would probably be only a few seconds long, focused on like guitar riffs or instrumental breaks or something.

The pro of this is that it's much harder to cheat on than a normal trivia game, 'cause in those, you can just go to Wikipedia or Google a bit. The con is... it's a heck of a lot of work for whoever is doing the editing.

thats sounds like an awesome idea, but that would be really hard to do. 3nodding

I won't cheat and go as the multi-million dollar Killer Queen again ;D

Song snippet challenge >> What Soren suggested, though I'm not really sure who's going to edit and going to upload it all to YouTube. I don't think it'd be terribly hard to edit, but whoever's interested in jumping on this idea should ask around the Tech. forum (perhaps they might know of a good program for simple editting).

Fanart contest >> ... Which I won't join XD But I wouldn't mind judging ;D

Prizes and awards >> I have some dubious prizes to be given out, especially for the winners of the dress-up contest. And the awards suggested by Fairy don't sound too bad either, I could 'prolly come up with something for the winners that they can display in their sig (maybe a simple pixel image or some such...).

But how are we to determine the winners, does someone send in nominations to our lovely Mr. Taylor mule or...?

Damn, this party's already starting to sound FUN!

I have a program called Audacity that will let me just record whatever's playing on my computer at the moment. Basically, I just need to get the song playing, select a part, and hit record, and it's done, so it wouldn't require as much editing as it would with something else. The problem, though... is that while I know a lot of Queen music, my physical catalogue is horribly small. sweatdrop But that can be remedied. It's just that I'm not sure I'll be able to make enough clips for how long some people might last! xd

Nominations should be sent to the lovely Mr. Taylor mule for the awards thing. I was also thinking of a simple little graphic or something like that could be displayed in their signature, around online, etc.

Also, to avoid cheating in the audio-song-clip thing, the song names from the clip should be sent in to someone that won't be playing the game. Like, an end time for that particular challenge, etc. Then, in its own thread, winners could be posted and next song clip...

>>;

Yeah.

How about an Icon contest? xd

Radioblog.com allows you to listen to some songs online in Flash, so maybe that nifty little program of yours could record some songs playing on there?

Ah, graphics I can do 3nodding But I'll count myself in for the icon making contest XD

Yeah, it could, Memai. It basically can record anything that my computer tries to play for me, so I'll go check that out. I also have 25 free plays on Rhapsody now, so I may go use those recording some Queen stuff. xp

I was originally thinking that it'd be set up where one person gets one song at a time and they slowly get eliminated (like a spelling bee), but that would be horribly slow now that I think about it. So, we plan to have a set amount of time to fill in a list of YouTube clips, and whoever guesses the most correctly wins... something?

My catalogue is pretty big, if anyone *ahem* needs some little-known Queen... ninja I don't mind donating tracks to a worthy cause, Soren. (It's a long standing tradition around here. XD *jabs Memai* )
