History:

The world of Enigma Arcana is a rich and varied place where races mingle freely and cultures rapidly adapt to their new additions. The recognised countries are ever-growing as war has left it's permanant mark upon the world's face. Nations rise and fail when the people die out. Other's rise and come to power taking over their surroundings to become a new stronghold of wealth and status. The races of E.A. are varied, with half-breeds being a common site from the former slave trade which quickly took over the economy. The trade has now been abolished in most countries, but these children of mixed breeds still remain.

War has left it's scar upon the elders of E.A and within the memory of the eldest they can recall waves of armies swarming the fields destroying everything in their path and leaving only death and sorrow in their wake. The country is now in a state of great recovery and advancement using the vast amount of gold supplied by the old slave traders. A great city has arose, the city of Thordis and this is the magic center of the world. From here great mages come and go learning their arts to a degree never seen before. Many of these new legends are very young in age and are shaping the world around their small footsteps.

The senate has recently lifted it's hold on importing goods from other countries, and with the goods comes people from all corners of the world. This new melting pot has spurred a great wander lust in many of the youth and they have taken to discovering this new world of theirs and along the way have discovered parts of the world's history formerly hidden by war's scar. New caves are being found, their reach unmeasured and contents never seen. Great temple complexes rest in the arms of forests, their steps covered in decades oof dust and debris. Some even tell stories of devices when touched, the person is never seen again, flung to some far corner of the world by ancient magic.

Enigma Arcana is ever changing and ever growing, and an ideal place to try to make a new beginning or discover a new end.

~~::Ferinus::~~

Sunrise brings with it rays of pure light and a feeling of excitement to the land as the first light of day casts it's glow upon the city of Ferinus. Windows reflect the pale light and sleeping faces within begin to awaken, and some are just now shuffling to bed. In a city of knowledge, few see their beds before daybreak. As dawn gives way to morning, an energy surrounds the residents as rumors flow of a foreign diplomat come to visit the city. Eager faces crane their necks southward, hoping to catch a glimpse of the grand procession rumored to announce his arrival.

While the residents clamour to see this new face, the scholars of the central university ponder over how to greet this man of importance. An older man clothed in the black heavy robes with the seal of Cedrian embossed in white upon the breast approaches the audience hall where his fellow scholars await him. Pushing open the wooden double doors, he enters a large circular chamber. The walls are covered in tall shelves stacked from top to bottom with tomes and papers from centuries past. A table with mismatched chairs had been shoved to the center of the room where four other men await him.

Taking his seat, they begin to discuss the arrival.

"Ah, you are finally here Cassius....We have word that Li Xephira has left Thordis and is on his way to the Festival of Corbyn in Morgan...he is rumored to stop here for a guide and perhaps a translator who knows the area, which we should supply." The first to speak is the youngest of the group, the professor of basic magical arts.

The elder Cassius took these words in slowly, turning the proposal over in his mind before giving an answer. "You have a good idea, Jonathan... I can see how this would work to Ferinus' advantage. Send out request forms to the students you think would fill this position best. I do not want any of our professors to go; they are too valuble to lose to the whims of that crazed man Apollo." Cassius spoke slowly, making certain his words were understood by the other men.

The four men quickly bowed and muttered their agreement with their peer. Each knew his word was absolute and neither wanted to be the one sent to accompany Li Xephira, so his wishes would be carried out without question. Leaving Cassius to the audience hall, a letter was quickly sent out to several promising students and employees.

~~:: Morgan Town ::~~

Festival day is near, and the residents of Morgan have spent the day setting up their gayly colored tents and various booths. It is the Festival of Corbyn, where the locals from far and wide come to witness grand parades, games, and tournaments, and partake in sampling the famous wines and spirits of the small town. The narrow, twisting streets have been transformed into tunnels of homespun cloth walls to shade the festival goers from the warm fun. Everywhere one can hear the cries of the vendors and the laughter of participants.

Rumors are stirring here, too, of the desert man come to visit, and the villagers are taking extra care to ensure that they look their best and that their wares are of the highest quality in hopes that they might attract his wanted attention and desired coin. Everywhere there is a feeling of excitment and the feeling that something grand is about to happen.

The thread is now officially open to add your character's starting position.

Tinuviel had been on her way home for several months, having traveled all around the southern portion of the country, but realizing that the harvest was coming soon, and with it Morgan Town's famous harvest festival, she put an end to her jaunt.

Prior to traveling to Morgan Town, she decided to stop in Ferinus for a few days, to pick up any interesting information that may tell her where to travel next after the festival. The city was only two or so days' travel from her mother's home, so she figured she had enough time to do so.

Ferinus was most unlike the city she was accustomed to, as everyone moved with a sense of urgency, rather than their typically laboured pace. After conversing with several people on the street, she learned of the foreign diplomat's arrival and intent to travel to Morgan Town's harvest festival. She found herself daydreaming of the opportunities this could give her. Apparently, this diplomat needed a guide who not only knew the area (she'd been through the whole country countless times! and Morgan Town was her birthplace!), but spoke various languages, as well (she was kicking herself for having focused more on academic languages. Her Kuzoth was passable at best, but she certainly wasn't fluent. Perhaps they could find a common language between them. Surely they could!) She ran to the library to pick up a conversational guide to brush up on her Kuzoth...

Matasoga looked back from his carriage, smiling smugly as he bid his miserable town farewell. He felt bad leaving Kromli behind, but knew that getting enough for him to come along and start a new life would have taken them another year or so, and neither of them wanted that.

He looked forward, debating his new destination. Ferinus was an appealing choice, to be sure, but since it was autumn, the harvest festival that he'd heard so much about should be going on soon. "Perhaps I can milk enough rooks that I would even be able to buy a house, once I get to Ferinus." Smiling at the thought, he leaned back into the plush, red, velvet cushion of the carriage. "Driver...To Morgan Town, please."

~~::Ferinus::~~

The scent of brittle parchment and the hushed whisper of ancient pages turning fills the vast expanses of the central library of Ferinus. Along the walls rest large windows, their shutters thrown open to catch the mid-day light which poured inside in streams of golden haze. Motes danced and shone like tiny flecks of gold trapped within the sunbeams as a shadow cut its way through the shafts of light.

Heavy boots sounded against the decades-worn stone floor as a middle aged man dressed in the professor's uniform of navy robes with the seal of his area of specialty embossed upon the breast made his way through the towering shelves. Lightly his hand trailed along the smooth, wooden shelving, fingertips leaving small trails in the dust upon the tome's spines. Gray eyes searched the expansive sleepy library for a certain student he was told would be within.

Catching sight of ruby curls and her signature horns, he cleared his throat to attract her attention.

"Excuse me, Tinuviel? I am Professor Jonathan...I remember seeing written somewhere that you are a native of Morgan Town. I am sure you have heard rumors that a diplomat is seeking a guide and translator, and I would like to personally request you for this task." He spoke softly, keeping his tone gentle as he did with all of his students, as he watched her face for her reaction. If she accepted, he would have two birds with one stone and less to report to Cassius.

~~::Morgan Town::~~

As the day drew on and afternoon took it's hold upon the crowd, drink began flowing more freely as people searched for relief from the sun's warm rays. A few of the more adventurous souls had even dared a dip in the chilly waters of the Liuel river, and everywhere was the sound of laughter and the murmur of conversation.

Morgan's two taverns, the Lady White and Lord Red, were packed with festival goers enjoying their spirits and sharing bragging tales and songs. The wenches hurried to keep glasses and tankards as full as they could, and the kitchens were an inferno of baking, frying, and boiling foodstuffs. Many games of chance and luck began to spring up to keep the men occupied as their wives strolled the outdoor markets for their trinkets and baubels.

At Matasoga's request, his driver brought him into the gates of this town as the festival's opening day was in full swing, and after accepting payment, allowed him to depart at the edge of the town's central square. Around him Matasoga would see crowds of people merry from their drink and the excitment of the day's events. Colorful tents and stalls dotted the square transforming it into a labyrinth of narrow pathways between booths where merchants shouted their wares to any passerby.

The largest tent in the center housed the performers, and faintly on the wind, lines of a risque play being performed could be heard accompanied by the rolling laughter of an amused crowd. Everywhere people would cast a curious glance at the new arrival, but not many let their eyes linger for long, save the young or a few girls around his age who found his exotic appearance something better to gaze upon than the ruddy faces and sweaty crowd which surrounded them.

Matasoga wasted no time in quickly gathering up the prettiest five girls and playing in town, giving the prettiest girl his hat to hold before the nearest stranger to drop coins in, as he plays the pipes. The others (at his direction to create a lordly and important presence, as well as to help create the appearance of a crowd already present) either hung onto him; lied at his feet, gazing adoringly up at him; or sat nearby doing the same, while one wrapped her arm around one of his legs, casting occasional provocative glances at the girl holding his hat to interest (either through lust orscandalization) the bypassers. He drew a moderate crowd in short order, collecting a tidy sum as well, this time through the generosity of drunks (who can't tell a copper piece from a platinum).
