What the longest time it has taken you to read a book? Why did it take you that long? For me I've been reading Stephen Kings IT since my Freshman year. I'm a Junior now. Normally it, at the very most, only takes me a couple of weeks to finish a book. But for some reason I always get side tracked while I'm reading IT. I'll become interested in another book and stop reading IT for a while. I've done it three times. The last time I only started reading it again because the movie was on ABC family. I'm getting close to finishing it.
Update January 29, 2008: I finally finmished reading it after 3 long years!

It's hard to say how long I've taken. I've got a couple of books that I haven't even looked at (except to move out of the way) for more than 3 years. Many of them are TV tie-in novels of shows I enjoy that have become predictable. On the other hand, some of them sometimes end up on a shelf in my bathroom and do get finished a few pages at a time.

I both like really taking my time with books and have a tendency to take breaks in the middle of books and forget about then...
I've found books that I've started reading years ago but forgot about <.<;

Rogue Specter I both like really taking my time with books and have a tendency to take breaks in the middle of books and forget about then... I've found books that I've started reading years ago but forgot about <.<; I like to take my time, too. That's one reason I never finished reading a couple of books for my English class. Fahrenheit 451, for example. It seemed like a good book, but I couldn't seem to read it for more than a couple pages at once because of the book burning deal and it made me angry. So I couldn't keep up with the class, then the book was ruined because I had to listen to the discussions about it.
I found a book I started reading in freshman year a few days ago, Magic Kingdom For Sale Sold by Terry Brooks. I can't for the life of me remember why I stopped reading it. It was good...

The Fellowship of the Ring. I've been poking at it for a couple of years now. It's such a good story, but the writing style really bogs me down. redface It's odd too, because I read The Hobbit without any real interruptions.

Fairgrass The Fellowship of the Ring. I've been poking at it for a couple of years now. It's such a good story, but the writing style really bogs me down. redface It's odd too, because I read The Hobbit without any real interruptions. Same here only a little different. I had no trouble with The Hobbit, The Fellowship of the Ring, or The Two Towers. Once I got to The Return of the King I couldn't get through it. The writting style finally got to me.

Um... Two week? I think... I devour my books... I usually go for books that have some kind of strange title.

It also depends on what else is going on school tends to slow down reading alot, this last quarter I had alot of stuff to work on so I really struggled to finish the book I was reading so I would have one less thing to have to carry with me on my trip...

It took me a month to read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire because of family problems. For most other books that size it only takes me a week.

Most books, if it doesn't take me a day or week to read, I end up putting aside for months: I'm kind of doing that right now with Kafka's the Metamorphoses. But thats one book I could pick up again a year from now and pick up exactly where I left off. If I did that with a plain fantasy/sci-fi book I'd have to start completely fresh.

It took me about three quarters of a year to read the first Harry Potter book because at first I couldn't really get into the story but when I finally did I lost the book for a good six months. Then when I found it took me a while to get into it again.

There are some books where you want to read it but somehow, it just takes so long to finish it. The plot is interesting and stuff but sometimes, I just can't get into the book, which is kind of frustrating.

Jane Eyre took me a couple months to read. I've been poking at O Pioneers! all summer. I've been poking at the LotR trilogy (I've got the big omnibus edition) for about five years.

When I first started the Wheel of Time series years ago it took me months to read EACH book. The most recent time I've read it it took me only a few to read the whole series (Except for New Dawn, Haven't read that one yet)
