I would like to state that one study, which only looked at 237 mothers in Baltimore, does not represent all women who have had induced abortions. Not to mention that this data seems to have been collected in the 1980s.

I challenge both the biases of those doing the study, and the application of data from one city and a very small group of families to the entire abortion debate.

I mean, I could hand pick some "Pro-Life" mothers who killed or harmed their children (which makes them not actually Pro-Life, hence the quotes), but that wouldn't indicate that all Pro-Life mothers wish to harm their children.

The data itself seems to be from a study of women who abuse or neglect their children. Really, all this study can actually conclude is that a portion of these abusive/neglectful women (not even all such women, just these) got abortions.

According to this chart from that study, the numbers of really abusive mothers who got abortions and who didn't get abortions were about the same.

I would like to see a larger study done on newly collected data, then I might see the validity of this (if, in fact, new data finds the same results).

I'd like to see a larger study done. And Baltimore women...that's just plain scary. Baltimore. Ew!

Even though I still stand by what I said previously, and am not retracting it, I think Baltimore was possibly one of the worst places to do this kid of study. I've been to Baltimore. I live in Maryland for two years, and my step mother nd dad lived in an aparment a literal stones throw away from the harbor. Its a rough place to say the least.

This report may be kind of like the guy who released that report on homsexuality awhile back but most of the men he interviewd were all prison in mates, and the only question he really ever asked was "Have you ever had sex with another man"

I think there might be something to the study. But looking at only women who have already abused their kids and who live in a very rough city and who were (mostly) Black, and only at data collected about 20 years ago really doesn't help the case of the authors of the study.

I'd really like to see data from all over the country, and from all sorts of different women living in different situations. Particularly women who haven't already been known to have abused their kids.

Because I think this study really found that abusive women are more likely to have chosen to abort, not that women who have chosen to abort are more likely to be abusive.

You know, women are counseled before getting an abortion. I think maybe women should also be counseled before giving birth, to try and maybe convince some of these women with abusive tendencies to give up their babies for adoption (rather than just have them taken away when they are older). I don't know. I just really breaks my heart to not know of any way to protect children from abusive parents...

That's what I got from it.

I agree, except maybe replace "be counseled" with "receive mandatory education." Even just basic s**t like "shaking a baby will make it cry more, until it dies from trauma, so don't do it, genius."

Fair enough.

Why haven't we taken over the country yet? Oh yeah - because I'm really lazy. What's your excuse? *grin*

Also lazy, and busy as a full-time drug mule.

Also busy studying the difference between pustules and sores. With graphic explanations. burning_eyes

Pustules are more delicious. 3nodding

Sores need to be sauteed in a garlic butter sauce to emphasize their flavor.

Game set and match.
