{This is a work in progress. I wish to refine this roleplay, which is based on the videogame Jade Empire. Therefore, I ask any participants to provide feedback if they spot anything that requires editing. Thanks a bunch ^_^}
The Jade Empire. Fashioned from the Void by the will of the Great Dragon and blessed from its creation, the empire stands at the heart of the civilised world-a cultural wellspring in a sea of barbarity. The majesty of the Sun Dynasty has guided our people for generations, preserving our prosperity throughout the ages. The peace of the realm was broken only when nature itself rebelled, withering the land in a decade of thirst. But even this the Emperor Sun Hai would not allow. For when he declared the Long Drought at an end, it was so.
Though (most of) you were raised far from the benevolent gaze of the Emperor, you have learned much here in the martial arts school of Two Rivers. But the end of your time at this borderland school draws near. Soon, experience will replace Master Li’s lessons as you travel beyond the shelter of Two Rivers. Remember that though the Empire stretches far, powerful spirits lurk just beneath the surface, and the threat of chaos is ever present.
Shari, Phoenari, and Broen are triplets, all brought as infants by Master Li to Two Rivers when he became the martial arts school's teacher. He has refrained from answering any questions about their parents and place of birth up until now, seventeen years since the four arrived at Two Rivers.

Attributes Body, spirit, and mind work in harmony to create a unified whole, but it is common that one of these three attributes is more prevalent than the others. Body: ability to withstand damage in battle, and deal it back just as hard. One that has a strong sense of body can use their sheer strength to defeat opponents in battle. Spirit: the ability to manipulate internal energies, called Chi. One who has control of their spirit can fuel magic styles and enhance physical strikes with Chi, doing more damage. Mind: ability to think on your feet and use weapons effectively. One with a truly focused mind is infinitely superior to others when a blade or spear is in hand.

Fighting styles Martial styles (note that golems are immune to martial styles) -"Iron Palm": Practitioners of Iron Palm throw their entire body into each blow, mixing open-handed strikes with powerful, driving assaults. A low stance ensures that each blow directs momentum from the user's entire body to hit with the force of a sledgehammer. This mixture of power, balance, and brute strength demolishes individual opponents as easily as it scatters groups. -"Legendary Strike": Many in the Jade Empire have heard of Legendary Strike, but few have actually seen it in action. Fewer still have mastered this martial style, but those who have are to be feared; their kicks rain down too fast to block and can quickly put an opponent out for good. -"Thousand Cuts": Thousand Cuts is aptly named, though the style does not involve blades. A master of this style relies on numerous light strikes in quick succession instead of singular punishing blows or thunderous kicks. Most opponents reel under such a relentless assault, unable to counter fast enough to find an opening for their own attacks. -"Leaping Tiger": With the vigor and speed of the animal for which this martial style was named, Leaping Tiger dazzles onlookers even as it carves up opponents. Practitioners of this Martial style focus so completely on the strength and quickness of the tiger that razor-sharp claws seem to sprout from their fists. The style's quick, leaping techniques and punishing strikes create a flurry of death that can keep even armed opponents at bay. -"White Demon": Many martial artists criticize the White Demon style for being slow and ponderous, but in the hands of a true master it can be one of the deadliest martial styles of all. While it lacks the crowd-pleasing panache of faster styles, white Demon's sheer power and intimidating techniques plow through opponents like an ogre in a teahouse.
Magic styles (note that demons and golems are immune to magic styles) -"Dire Flame": Practitioners of Dire Flame can throw bolts of fire, project explosive fireballs, and even summon dragon-like burning constructs that immolate enemies with tongues of flame. Sometimes the sight of a fighter wielding the power of flame is enough to reduce the bravest of opponents to begging for mercy. -"Ice Shard": While many warriors swear by the power of Dire Flame, many others seek to master the powerful Ice Shard. By using their chi to summon forth the soul-chilling cold of the highest mountains, masters of Ice Shard can send daggers of ice flying toward enemies, call a freezing ice storm to slow their shivering foes, or even encase opponents in columns of ice before shattering them with a single blow. Few fighters have the courage to stand up to the cold stare of an Ice Shard master. -"Stone Immortal": Fighters who study this style gain mastery over the ponderous element of earth, putting the mighty power of stone and crystal at their command. Masters of Stone Immortal have the ability to attack enemies with crystalline missiles, encase foes in stone, or even open the ground beneath an opponent's feet. To command the power of earth requires a mind centered on balance, stability, and order. -"Tempest": Warriors proficient in Tempest have the winds at their beck and call. Fighters who have faced this style and survived tell tales of blasts of gale-force winds and of powerful whirlwinds that effortlessly sent them flying away from the Tempest master himself. Many practitioners of Tempest face entire gangs without ever taking a wound, as the mighty winds at their command keep their foes at bay. Warriors with the chill of the wind in their hearts find Tempest far easier to command
Weapon styles (note that spirits are immune to weapon styles) -These do not need to be listed here, because a list of weapons would be nearly unlimited.
There are certain styles that are too obscure or powerful to be taught at a martial arts school like Two Rivers, but it doesn't mean your character is limited to the styles mentioned in this post. PM me if you wish to have another fighting style not listed here, and we'll discuss it.

((And thus, with Icy playing Broen, we may begin. If any others are interested in joining, just PM me, and we can work out your entrance- there are NUMEROUS opportunities for different characters, so please join!))
Phoenari smiled as he stalked the interior perimeter of the circular sparring ring, located between Master Li's quarters, and the student living quarters. "Ready?" he asked playfully, his yellow sash as still as the air around it. Immediately across from him, on the opposite side of the dirt sparring ring, his opponent's eyes narrowed. "No magic styles, Phoenari. I want a fair physical bout." Phoenari's jaw dropped momentarily. "That's not fair, Jing! Sparring is boring if there's no 'spirit' put into it!" He looked at Jing's beseeching gaze, then sighed, submitting to his friend's request. "Fine." The two opponents circled the inside border of the ring for a few seconds longer, then halted. Jing, an all-rounder in the martial fighting styles, took up a simple stance by standing straight and tall, the signature stance of the 'white demon' style. Even as Phoenari moved into his standard fighting stance, Jing advanced on his foe and, placing all possible strength into his blow, punched towards Phoenari's head. The 'Legendary striker' ducked down low, then brought a leg up with force, winding Jing in the stomach and pushing him backwards. He then rose up to his normal stance once more, slightly bouncing from one foot to the other to 'keep on his toes', as it were. "You're too slow!" he intoned cheekily. "Oh really? Then I'll just have to use a different style, won't I?" Jing crouched down into a more practical stance, and four steel talons sprouted from the knuckles on each fist, the most obvious sign that Jing was using the leaping tiger style ((Imagine claws similar to wolverine from X-Men *)). He pounced with ferocious speed at his target, but as he neared Phoenari, his opponent changed stances, stretching his open palms out behind him. Phoenari shouted, "Tempest!", and he brought his left arm back in front of his chest in a slicing motion. He then found the time to smile whilst Jing was forced backwards yet again, to the very edge of the sparring ring this time. "You may consider leaping tiger to be a martial style, but I believe it is at the very least linked with weapon styles, and if you can use that, I can employ magic styles." Phoenari didn't really believe that he was advantaged; he barely had a grasp on the Tempest style, because he wasn't of the cold and selfish disposition that was required to fully control wind.
((*If you have leaping tiger style and don't won't to have the claws, that's fine. I might just make them optional.)) ((Also, if you consider this post as too detailed in describing stances etc, I won't be doing that every post. Just needed to get you guys acquainted with visualising each style and so forth))

Hasana watched the spar with delight, for the White Demon was one of her favourite styles. However, while Jing had claws, she had a slightly different method. She used katar; punching blades; which she had trained herself to slip on in the middle of a sequence, although she tended to fight with them on most of the time, as they weren't much of a hindrance.
She wasn't supposed to be lingering; she was on her way to the master's rooms. She dabbled in the herbal arts also, and Master Li was grateful for the pain relief her teas brought. While still surprisingly mobile for a man of his age, his joints still pained him in the cold of winter.
[[Oh yeah, i changed my equipment. Lol. Hope that's okay bout Master Li. If not, i will change.]]

Taergeht Red na Xela While still surprisingly mobile for a man of his age ((Yeah, I suppose you could call him mobile; he's stronger than all of us students combined at the moment! And the katars and herbs are fine by me.))
Jing laughed as he stood up, then brushed the dirt from his clothing. "Fair enough, I suppose. Only one style is forbidden at the Grand Arena in the Imperial City, so your magic styles wouldn't be limited there." A smile lingering on his face, Phoenari was silent in victory. He was thinking about Jing's dream; to become the Champion of the Gold Division in the Imperial Arena. Phoenari didn't aspire to that goal as well, but he would love to be around to watch his friend compete against the Empire's greatest combatants. Looking around, Phoenari noted those other students nearby. Hasana had watched the sparring bout, and he nodded in her direction, but it was someone else that was on Phoenari's mind. "Where's Yolana? She told me that she'd be here to train with me around now. She was going to show me her new longsword." Jing shrugged, then nodded to Phoenari before leaving the sparring ring to practise his kata routine. An explosion thundered from somewhere near the village.

The gentle breeze blowing in through the open window of Gujin's store cooled Yolana's face, swaying her long brunette hair about her as she waited patiently for the Weaponsmaster to recieve her new Longsword. As Gujin approached Yolana through the hallway she faintly heard screaming and fighting from outside. Bowing as she took her Longsword from Gujin, she takes off quickly, looking behind her as she goes "Thankyou Gujin! Sorry to run out like this!!" A gush of wind was left as she run through the dirt streets, rushing into the Village Square, grasping her sword tightly in her hands. Stopping in shock, her eyes grew wide as in front of her were several bandits, looking to have come from the river south of Two Rivers. The group was not large, but their use of weapons and martial arts collagorated. Creeping past the brawl, Yolana takes off in the direction of the Martial Arts school, skidding in through the gates. Running past Hasana and Pheonari, she yells as she passes "Where is Master Li? There are Pirates in the Village Square!!!"

"Sorry bout that!" Shari yelled, ducking as karakul rained from the sky. She grinned sheepishly at the farmer, who was staring, mouth agape, at one lamb which had landed in a tree.
"That was the last of my potassium nitrate," she said sadly, "and that stuff is a b***h to harvest. I mean, I only have so much urine in me. And following animals around all day, hoping they'll give you what you so badly need, it gets very boring. And when I get bored, there are... accidents." Shari gave her most winning smile to the farmer, who was turning a most unpleasant shade of purple.
"Dishonor upon you and all your ancestors!" he finally sputtered out, spit flying everywhere, "Shame upon your parents for failing to teach you respect towards your elders!"
"My parents are dead," Shari said, her smile dropping off her face.
It suddenly became very quiet. Even the karakul ceased their bleating for a few moments.
The farmer's face turned from purple to white, looking away from Shari. "My apologies," he mumbled, "I did not know."
Shari's expression did not change. She turned her back on the man, striding away with long bold steps.
Over the next hill, her smile returned; she even began to hum. Gods help her, but she loved doing that.

[[Er, actually Phe, it's more like... 6 katars... three for each hand.]]
"Pirates in the village? Why are pirates in the village?" Hasana asked as Yolana flew past, in search of Master Li. "He's in his rooms!" she called after her, a little belatedly. She looked at Phoenari. "Should we go and help them? The villages will be panicking."

Taergeht Red na Xela [[Er, actually Phe, it's more like... 6 katars... three for each hand.]] ((I think you and I have different ideas of what a katar looks like. I see it as a wide dagger blade at the end of a fist, not one sinlge talon...)) Phoenari's jaw dropped as his mind registered the crisis. "We go to Li. He needs to know. We'll go from there." Glancing quickly at the others, Phoenari ran, leading the way to Master Li's quarters. No time for knocking or social protocol, Phoenari decided as he forcefully slid open the door into Li's private room. "Master! Bandits in the village!" Master Li sighed as though this sudden occurence was expected, but unwelcome nontheless. "Fine. Phoenari, Hasana, Yolana, go to the village and do what you can to drive them back. It is acceptable to kill. Jing, you will help me here; the school needs to be protected. I will then come to your aid as soon as I can. Where are Broen and Shari? Wait, there's no time. Just go!" Li gestured for the students to rush to their appointed tasks, then he and Jing left the building to gather up the other students. Phoenari wondered where his siblings were for a moment, then remembered seeing them both head off towards the village earlier, for whatever purposes. Hopefully they're both okay. And alive. "Time to go guys. Make haste!" Phoenari, accompanied by Hasana and Yolana, headed with all due speed to the village of Two Rivers, past the school gates. On the other side of these gates, no less than ten vicious pirates stood over the bodies of their victims, although none of these bandits made any attempt to loot the surrounding buildings.

Shari, with an amazing and not at all contrived sense of timing, arrived at the scene. She vaguely considered throwing one of her new explosives, but she could injure her brother, or hit one of the bodies. For all she knew, someone in that bloody batch could still be alive.
Instead, she watched from a distance, plastered against the side of building. Her physical abilities were inferior to the other students; her skills lay in speed, stealth, and trickery. And explosives. She was very good with explosives.
Her eyes fell on a nearby flock of karakul, penned up.
A few moments later, the sheep ambled towards the pirates. If someone had looked very carefully, they might have seen two human feet lost in the flock.
