Raven cursed under her breath as a fresh stab of pain came forth from her swollen belly and along her spine. That had been what seemed like the hundreth time that she had felt this pain. She had no idea what was going on and she had no one to turn to. She had bred with Hiei in secrecy, not telling a soul about it.
Clenching her fangs together, she attempted to stand up and walk towards the back of the cave, yet another fresh wave of pain came forth. 'stupid pain,' she thought to herself bitterly. 'Where is this coming from?'
"H..Hiei, come quick," she managed to shout out, wondering if the large male was nearby. "something...something's wrong."

Hiei's ears flew up at the call of his mate. He had made sure that their cave was out of the way of the pack when she began to feel the odd pains. He had a theory but hadn't brought it up to her. "Raven!" He called bolting into the cave and sniffing her out. "Are you alright?"
His glowing red eyes reflected the little light in the cave as he stepped toward her. "What's wrong?"

She barely heard her mate enter the cave, but she could smell his scent as clear as day. She squeezed her eyes shut as she caved into the pain and collapsed onto the stone ground. "I..don't know. This pain. It just came out of nowhere." She wrinkled her nose slightly as the pain began to come quicker and deeper. "What is this...feeling. something is moving around inside of me."
She lightly touched her nose down to the ground as she felt something strange happen. She knew then instantly what it was. She didn't know how, but it had to be her motherly instincts kicking in. Letting out a cry of pain, she arched her back as something warm and fuzzy fell from her.
After the form fell to the ground, the pain ceased. It was like the thing had stopped it. She knew it wouldn't last long. There were still more of those things inside of her. She turned her body around to see a black and white pup squirming on the cold ground. Instinctively she began to lick the encasing that was around the pup's body. She was nearly done cleaning the pup when the pain began again. She arched her back again, wanting the tings to be rid of, but she knew it would take some time for her to finish giving birth.

Hiei's eyes widened at the sight before him. He knew better then to touch his mate and instead settled for pacing. "I'm right here..." He whispered softly, "You can do it... just keep pushing." When the first pup dropped from her, he continued his words.
He moved toward the new pup as close as he dared. His mother told him that during birth, female wolves could become violent. Not wanting anything to hurt their pups or disrupt the birthing. "Just a little more Raven..." He whispered gently urging her and trying to comfort her.

Raven saw a flash out of the corner of her eye heading towards her newborn pup and she instincively snarled, not knowing that it was Hiei who was near the pup. A few moments later, the snarling ceased as more pain engulfed her senses. "Too much...pain," she whispered harshly as she began to dig her claws at the stone ground.
It was then that a second pup fell from her, but she didn't bother turning around to give the second pup the same treatment as she did the first one. The pain didn't cease like it was supposed to, which shocked Raven slightly. She had wanted more of a break between pups, yet it seemed that this last one wanted to get out.
Gathering up her strength, she slowly half-stood up as she dug in her haunches, preparing herself for the last pup. Letting out a hoarse, long wail she pushed deep and hard, wanting that last pup gone and the pain to be over with. slowly, the last pup wiggled its way free from its mother and plopped down next to the second pup. exhausted, Raven collasped on the ground, her sides heaving. Her motherly instincts started to kick in and her mind told her to tend to her pups, but her body was too tired to do that at the moment.

Hiei gave the she-wolf space until her struggles ended. When the third pup gave her trouble he began to whimper as he paced. Would she and the pups be alright? His ears flattened against his head as he watched, wanting to help her but unable.
At last it was over. He was at her side in seconds, nuzzling her and making sure she was alright. "You did a wonderful job..." He told his mate with pride in his voice. "Would you like me to fetch you water? Or food? Anything at all?"
He glanced over at his three newborns with a father's joy in his eyes. Oh how beautiful each was. He stepped over and began to clean them for Raven until she answered his many questions. He could at least help her this way.

Raven was too exhausted to care whether or not Hiei was cleaning her pups. That last one took nearly all of her energy. Carefully, though, she half-stood up and began to crawl towards her pups, her motherly instincts in full drive. "water," she whispered to her mate as she began to nudge her pups towards her.
Instincively the little white pup pushed her muzzle against her mother's belly, looking for a free place to suckle on. a few moments later, she found what she was looking for and latched on tightly, kneading her paws into the soft flesh of her mother's belly as she did so.
Raven winced slightly as she felt one pup starting to feed. Slowly, she nudged the other two next to their sibling. she wished that the birthing would have went smoother, but at least she survived it, unlike her own mother.

The male nodded and left the den to find his mate water. He stopped just outside of the cave and raised his muzzle to the moon and announcing the arrival of his babes.
The only boy, joined his sisters in suckling and snuggled up to him. Deaf and blind, he only knew their touches were comforting. That and the taste of warm milk.

Raven winced again as she felt the other two pup imitate their sister as they began to take their share of her milk. Slowly, a smile graced her maw as she flicked her tail slightly back and forth, her attention on her new pups.
Tsume lifted his head up as he heard a familiar howl. interested in what the other male had howled about, he slowly made his way out of his cave and towards Raven's. He knew that she had been penned up in her cave for a while, but he didn't know the reason.
as he approached Hiei, he lifted his tail and head up high and let out a short bark to indicate his arrival. "what honor do I owe for your presence, Hiei," he asked the other male in a stern voice.

Hiei froze and stared at Tsume with deer-in-the-head-light eyes. "Um... Hello, Tsume..." He said between his teeth, holding a leaf full of water. Unable to put it down he winced as he walked back into the cave. Tsume would follow and Raven's secret would be out.
He gently rested the leaf by her muzzle making sure to let the water flow into a small crevice in the floor for her to get to. "Your father's here." He murmured still holding his large and fake smile.

Raven lifted her head up as she heard the sound of claws clicking on the ground. She smiled slightly as she saw Hiei enter the cave but it disappeared when she saw the larger form of Tsume enter behind him. She wanted to crawl away, but it was already too late. he had caught sight of the pups.
Tsume stopped a few feet away from Raven, his eyes gazing at the pups. "What do we have here?" he asked her curiously. "It seems that someone has given birth to some unknown pups. I had no idea that you were pregnant, raven. How long has it been since this...male mated to you?"
She wanted to hide from him, but she didn't. instead, she licked one of her pups as she listened to her adopted father speak to her. "A little bit before the Elder's call, i suppose." She winced at her words. She hadn't been showing during that time, but afterwards, while they were on their way back, she had started to show. she managed to hide her fatigue by staying near the back of the pack and stayed inside of her cave all day when they got back to their packlands.

Hiei knew that Tsume wouldn't hurt her but stepped up in front of her. "These pups do carry my blood as well as my devotion. If anyone is to blame it is me, but if you are angry do not lash it out in this cave." He affectionately licked the top of Raven's forehead and turned his eyes on Tsume. "She's very tired and the pups have just began to suckle."
He proudly rose to full height and bristled his fur. If the other wanted to fight, he was more then happy to satisfy him. It shone in his eyes that the protection of his mate and pups meant everything to him.

raven looked up at Hiei, a hint of shock on her face. She didn't expect anything like this to happen from her mating to Hiei, but it seemed that tsume was angrier on the inside than what she had expected. slowly, she let her head fall on her forepaws, her exhaustion catching up to her.
tsume bristled his fur, too, as he flicked an ear irritably. "I was merely asking questions, Hiei," he said, his voice holding a tinge of hatred. "Well, then. it seems that you have broken a forbidden rule that I set for you. Once you have regained your strength, you and your family are to abandon this area and never come back." slowly, he turned around and began to walk away from them, his ears pinned back against his skull.

The wolf stopped for a moment. Exile? Rule? What was he talking about? The wolf bolted forward and halted in front of Tsume, eyes narrowed. "What rule are you talking about? You exile her? For what cause! She and I are mates and in love. What is done is done!" He looked at a loss, as if this exile was paining him. He knew it would hurt his mate. "Don't ban us from your lands. We'll leave but don't cast aside your daughter like she was nothing!"

Raven lifted her head up and lightly touched her muzzle on Hiei's pelt. "hiei, stop." her voice was faint, yet it was stern at the same time. "I know exactly what he is talking about. I broke a vow to never mate without his concent. Now that I've done that, the only thing I am good for is leaving here without any fuss. I was supposed to be for his son, but i guess that ruined his plan."
tsume didn't bother looking back. he could hear Raven explaining everything to Hiei so that he didn't have to. slowly, he began to wander back towards his own cave, disappointment bearing down on his mind.
