Within 2-4 years, I plan on forming a steampunk band. But I'm never really one to keep to my commitments so don't expect it. Still I hope it does happen. I'm not exactly sure what constitutes steampunk music, but I am a big fan of punk music, so I was just thinking we'd be a punk band, but dress in a steampunk style of manner. Been going over names because that's the first thing I do when I create a project, which is to name it, because you can find everything in a name. A rose by any other name would NOT smell as sweet. Well, I'm probably allergic to roses anyway, so I don't like them much. Perhaps "Clockwork Revolvers" or something.

Do you know of any steampunk related music?

Well, These here guys seem pretty steampunk to me (well, more Steamgoth than anything, but steam is steam)

Abney Park

I like them, their instruments are awesome. The Clocwork guitar is cool.

If you want my view on Abney Park, their genre of music is anachronistic gothic; whilst their style is pure Steampunk (at least now).

KumaBlind, you beat me to this topic, I was just going to make one similar! ^_^

Abney Park was what first got me interested in Steampunk. I heart them. It's too bad their music is so hard to find on CD. (of course it's that way it is with a lot of good indie music...)

As for more Steampunkish bands/artists, I've got a few suggestions. Perhaps not pure-blooded Steampunk, but more modern music with very classical/anachronistic inflections. These links will take you to the artists' respective MyspaceMusic accounts. biggrin

-Emilie Autumn
("Victoriandustrial")
-Dr. Steel
("Hip-hop industrial opera")
-Rasputina
("Mystically cellorific")

I love weird music. heart

I've been a big fan of this one thing that, while not exactly Steampunk, has a sort of Steampunk air to it. Well, it's more post-modern punkishness, but it seems to have some elements in common.
Anyone every heard of the Rock Opera 'The Transfused'? It's by the Queercore band 'The Need'. It's not exactly Steampunk, but yes...

Steampunk music can be very difficult to find- it's generally listed as experimental or independent. Usually it is a fusion of two or more genres. Abney Park seems to be the most straight up of all the bands I've heard, but some of them can be really really adventuresome in the music they put out, and many of them are indie bands, which makes me even happier about supporting them, because I'm not supporting the Man in the process. mrgreen

@ Crane: To answer your question regarding my sanity,

Yes, yes I am insane.

@Color: Thank you, though I do enjoy Dr. Steel!

Dresden Dolls, folks. *heart* I cannot resist a band that would label itself "Brechtian Punk Cabaret". While not explicitly steampunk, I think it's steampunky enough to post.

While at the website, check out their photo albums.
