PurrfectGirl I personally want to get a tatoo. But my parents and friends are all like ' its a sin' 'The Bible says its a bad thing to do!!' Any help? the only place in the bible where it says that totooing is a sin is in Leviticus(that i know of anyway) and the laws of Leviticus were negated by Christs sacrifice, so tatts are ok again. at least i hope they are seeing as how i have two.

Hmmm... My parents said the same thing.... I'm not sure, Laz make a good point. but on the other hand, who knows what god wants us to do in these "grey" areas... you shoud probably go with your gut feeling and just hope the god is guiding you.

I've heard that it is defined as a sin in some divisions of Christianity... but I don't believe it as an act horrible enough to be a true disobedience of God. If the sins defined by the Book of Leviticus were negated by the blood of Christ (as Lazarus pointed out), then there's even less to worry about.

Actually in that verse it specifically says not to "mark your body in honor of the dead." Not to mention the general argument that it's in the old testament... I don't really know if that matters or not. stare
But yeah, I want little angel wings on my shoulder blades. xd And since my dad has 2 tattoos... it doesn't really matter to my parents. sweatdrop

I have 2 tattoos. I really don't think that they're that bad. Saying that having tattoos is a sin is like saying having scars is a sin considering that tattoos are just glorified, colored scars.

Tattoo's are not a sin. If you get a tattoo though make sure its nothing that sinful though. My uncles a christian and he has two sleeves and then hes got a full back and neck with tattoos on him. Its not a sin, its just like body pericings my friends parents told her that would be a sin to get any pericings if though Jesus Christ's pericings saved us

Tattoos, my father has 4, and I believe that they can actually be of benifet, if they show your dedication to christ, if you have a crucifix or a scripture verse or something, this can also remind you of who you serve.

1. The Bible says in the old testiment that you shouldn't, but it went right along with don't eat pork. We can do those things now because we have beter preservatin for food and steriling for needles. 2. If your parents don't want you to, you should respect them in their decision. Honor thy father and mother.
[I personally have no tatoos, but I have ear lobe and cartilage piercings and hop to ger a tatoo when I turn 21 or something like that.]

I don't think tattoos are actually a sin. They are mentioned in relation to idol-worshipers though, so I guess it's best to look at what your reason for getting a tattoo is, where your heart is and all that.
As cuppin cakes mentioned, the Bible does say to NOT get a tattoo in memory of a dead relative. That makes me sad because I wanted an anchor on my arm for my grandpa who was in the navy, but that verse is pretty clear about the subject
I've always wanted one, but I haven't yet thought of something I'd really want on my skin for the rest of my life.
I think the thing with old testament and eating pork and all those old laws is, well, we're gentiles. In reality, they are finding more and more that pork is bad for you, no matter what part of the pig it is. I think God knows which animals are better for you, since he created them. But I can't give up bacon.
I still struggle with what part of the old testament is still meant for us.

But I can't give up bacon. I still struggle with what part of the old testament is still meant for us. there was a very specific practice of tattooing for the dead that was a pretty religious thing for some tribe or other. seeing as how that's gone i'd say go for the anchor. I've got a tatt for a dead friend. the thing about pork is mostly in there with the diseases you can get from not cooking it properly i mean it's hard for a religion to continue if they all die from fod poisoning.
