I'm going to make a preposal to start a pro-life group at my school. Any ideas of what I should put in it, or anything? Format, signatures that kind of stuff. I know of at least one teacher who is pro-life and I think he'd be willing to supervise.

Talk to the department that manages that stuff and find out how much interest there needs to be to form a club, then try to find a supervisor, then a petition, try and figure out a place to meet, a time to meet, etc.

Come up with a proposal, not really serious, just a plan of action to get in motion and a plan of activities/discussions/whatever for when it starts. School might not like a bunch of people saying, "Well. Babies rock, abortion sucks, end of discussion." Things like rebuttals, information, maybe debates (though someone needs to play devil's advocate, and not the stereotypical heartless one, the real arguments and intelligent points they make, otherwise it's just preaching to the choir and no one learns how to handle and counter good points made). Come up with ideas for things before even going to find out how much interest is needed so that if they ask what sort of things the group would do, you'd have a rough idea to give them.

If you want to be really active, y'all could try fundraising for a pro-life causes, such as houses for women who were kicked out for refusing to abort, or something like that.

The best bet, though, is to always have a plan before you start anything so that if anyone objects to it, you've got ready answers and don't have to deal with pro-choice administrators who'll try and shoot it down on nitpickity things.

They would NEVER let us do that in my school! We can't even say the word abortion in my History class while discussing the election! My teacher thinks we'll complain to our parents about talking about it at school. And they let us go to 'health'?

That's an awesome idea. I would start one, but I go to a Catholic School so it wouldn't make a difference. Did you know that you can't even post an article in the school newspaper where you are slanted to pro-choice? (I had wanted to do debate articles with a friend who is pro-coice.) Freedom of Speech my a**.

But yah, back to the point. Awesome idea, talk to the school's principal, ASB person (do you even have ASB? I dunno) and yah, go for it and enjoy it. And don't be a lazy bum like me friend who started a Japanese Culture club and barely runs it. pshh. lol okay I'm rambling.

I started a pro-life group at my school, and the thing that really helped was this little packet I got from Ms. Jacquelyn Engler, the leader of Youth For Life...and it's really handy. If you want, I can PM parts or all of it to you. It's got stuff like things to do at meetings, topics to cover, things to know, how to manage it, and fund raisers to do. It's really helped.

What? Are you serious?

That's a crock. How does that work? It's not as if you need opposition groups for everything. Where's the homophobic group as opposed to the GSA group? Where's the athiest group to oppose the christian group?

That pisses me off. Seriously, I have a problem with that. It's just a lame excuse to get out of having controversy discussed in school (which you and I do plenty of).

Since they won't let you start one without a pro-choice side, try this:
create an abortion debate club
allow people to view their sides
maybe this way you will even have the chance of creating some pro-lifers out of pro-choicers

We already have a debate club but it's mostly for improving your debating skills. And I'm not sure what to do from here. I mean there are lots of clubs that don't have the opposition club, and I mean it's easy enough to form a Choice club if people are interested.

And truthfully I don't think that if it was someone requesting a pro-choice group that they would have been turned down. It makes me angry.

The princepal said she's talk to the health nurse about having a day where we could all talk about abortion but not an ongoing thing. I was like "Okay" because I don't like arguing. But I'm thinking about sending more people in to ask for a group, eventually she'll have to take notice.

That is a great idea. But, of all people, you don't like arguing? ...hmmmm... may want to reconsider what you said. whee

Haha I like debating but actually going and saying "Look here! That's clearly not the issue, and I won't be satisfied until I get a good answer" isn't quite my thing. Although once in science I refused to do homework because the teacher handed it out because someone threw a pen.
