Hera slowly traveled along the small area she called her 'home' in the herd lands. Her tiny cave wasn't more than a few hundred feet away from her, yet it seemed a lot further away when she was bored. Stopping in her tracks, she stomped a forehoof lightly on the dusty ground. Her slave was resting inside of her cave after their little teaching session she had with the Bae. It seemed that the Bae was picking up on what she was teaching her quite quickly. Soon she would be ready to be taken around the lands to meet the other Jala herd members. But for now the little Bae stayed at home while Hera wandered around.

Canting her head to one side, her thoughts wandered to the prince of the herd. Ka had stolen her heart the moment she had caught sight of him. Sure, she had flirted with other stallions before, but he was different. He was untouchable, or at least it seemed that way to her. She was the big piece of the herd that she wanted so badly. Too bad he wasn't going to lead the herd or else she would help him gain control of the 'throne.' Hera flicked an ear irritably. If that blasted heiress hadn't shown up, Ka would be in power by now. 'Just you wait little deary,' she thought to herself, a smirk on her maw. 'One day mighty Ka will dethrone your happy little butt.'

Well maintained hooves, that saw more then enough action day in and day out, skirted against the red dust of his herd's home. Had it not been for the kink in his neck and the stiff grinding of his shoulders he would have been far more brisk in his gait. Bah, he supposed he still had a bit of resting and healing to do after that sucidal landing of his, but that hardly kept the prince from wandering about in search of something interesting. Perfably a fiesty stallion ready for a good brawl, despite his condition.

Flicking an unruly forelock out of his vision, the stallion cast his gaze across the near-by surroundings. He was in a rather pecular mood, this buckskin, fiery it would seem. After a morning of pondering more about this developing plan of his, he had gone off on a little jog to help his joints recover a bit more. The best way to get rid of pain was to work through it, he felt.

As he moved closer tot he cave systems he had come to know only on such jogs, his morbid sea green gaze happened to fall upon the form of yet another Jala. Who though he was uncertain of. Keeping his head mounted upon a slight, regal arch, he regarded the figure a bit longer while his eyes seemed to adjust to the distance. The large stallion, to Jala standards, pitched his ears forwards and back in a bit of recognition to who ever it might be. The best way to undermine Yi, was to go behind her back with little things like politeness to the herd members.

Hera heard the soft sound of hooves on the hard ground and she quickly spun around to see Ka slowly approaching her. She hadn't expected to see the prince again so soon, yet she was a little relived to see him. Hopefully he could get rid of her boredom by talking to her a little bit. It was then that she remembered her lack of tear-markings and she lowered her gaze down towards the ground. Her mother had to be stubborn and breed to a stallion that was outside of the herd, thus creating little tear-marking-less Hera.

Stomping a hoof on the ground, she bitterly cursed at her dead mother. It was her fault that she was marking-less, unlike the other herd Jala. 'Maybe this is Jala's punishment towards my mother,' she had thought to herself when she was a tiny foal. Maybe she was right and it was punishment for being the lone offspring of a herd-less stallion. Maybe that's why she resented Tahmores when she first saw him at the slave auction.

Lifting her had up slightly, she squared her shoulders slightly to make her look more presentable. After all, it was the prince who was coming towards her, not some commoner. Slowly, she bowed her head down low, almost letting her muzzle touch the red earth, before slowly raising it, her ears pricked up high and her wings stretched out slightly away from her body. "Good-day, Prince Ka," she said to him, a sweet, yet innocent smile on her maw.

As he came closer, the buckskin was able to depict the movements she made, slight or not, without a problem. Well it seems he hadn't stumbled upon a stallion at all, but rather a mare. Now its not exactly like he mare after mare chasing after him, so he saw little danger to himself and his reputation if he had a polite conversation with this one, however short it may be. Slowing his pace as he came to a halt, Ka realized she must have been about the same size as himself, which was rather surprising.

"And to you", he returned, sea green eyes trying to find some sort of distinquishable marking he may place with a name. The training he had received before Yi came along would not be put to waste, and certainly he should be able to remember? Hmm, no doubt Yi would be jumping to see him forget something like this. Shifting his weight to the back of his hooves he allowed his mind to wander from such a subject and more towards the mare herself. "How has the day been thus far?" Oh he was painfully bad at conversation away from the soldiers he felt so akin to.

It didn't even cross his mind to look for tear-markings, for he had little reason to doubt their existance.

Hera remembered that she hadn't said her name and she blushed faintly, hoping that Ka wouldn't have noticed the little mistake. "Hera, sire," she said to him, a hint of faint pink on her cheeks. Bobbing her head slightly, she took a few timid steps away from the stallion, not noticing that they were around the same height. She knew that she was slightly smaller than the normal female Jala, yet she had no idea how much shorter. Hearing his question, she flicked her tail slightly, hesitating slightly before answering to him.

"It's been rather dull, to be quite honest. It seems that nothing exciting happens to us commoners," she said to him, her flirtatious side taking a rest for the time being. She didn't want to come on too strong to him during their first meeting, in case she scared him away. She then noticed that he didn't notice her lack of tear-markings. She smiled inwardly, happy that he didn't pay attention to that minor detail. she wished more stallions were like him.

It seemed that his reserve of fiery nature had been swallowed down when no stallion had been produced before him, for he hardly had the mind to challange any female to a brawl. It just wasn't the way of the herd, it seemed. It was a shame really, for he had happened to spot a few that may have made a good opponet given the right situation. With a slope of his shoulders the buckskin relaxed away the stiffness, for the time being he would give them a break.

At her statement he gave a small bob of his head, though disheartedly. "Nothing much exciting happens around here", lest he thought so deeply into his little plottings and so fiery for that brawl of his. Giving another glance towards Hera he took in her position, but happened to instead spot the faintness of color in her cheeks. He blinked slightly, certainly he hadn't done anything to cause that, had he? He always found it odd to be around the herd members, for they acted rather ridiculously, despite it being herd society. Quite simply, Ka found it rather amussing at times. Though more so when it came to the fillies and mares, for perhaps there was something he was missing in all the little movements and habits. Oh well, he'd ponder over it later.

Hera shook her head slightly as the hint of blush on her cheeks faded away. She wished that she hadn't done that in front of Ka, but it was instinct that she acted upon. Flicking her tail, she gazed over at the horizon where the edge of the herd lands ended and where the unknown lay. "Seems like it," she said in a slightly bland tone of voice. It was true. Nothing exciting ever happened in the herd land, unless an intruder came in. Then chaos would break loose and there was bloodshed before the intuder left, some of them looking worse than what they looked like coming into the lands.

"So, what's a guy like you doing in a place like this? I would have thought you would be with the other soldiers sparing." She was curious why he had wandered over here rather than stay with the soldiers. She gazed in his direction for a few brief moments before turning her body towards a small tree she was standing next to. "I hear that a markless Jala had managed to come into the lands. Is this true?" Of couse she had seen this Jala, but she had no idea whether or not he was still in the area.

Ka so despised sticking around most of the herd for longer then necissary, but he hadn't quite met his quota yet with this mare, so his features showed little to no tension. Which seemed fair considering they had no previous encounters for him base his opinion on. At her question though the stallion quirked his muzzle in an odd fashion, like he normally did in conversations. Though, mostly with Yi, and mostly with a certain threat carried on it as well in her presence. "Haven't come across any this day, otherwise I would be", that and he didn't particularly feel like throwing his shoulder out more then it already was, but he'd be damned if he spoke of such a thing; and to a citizen much less.

At the mention of a markless Jala though he gave a solitary bob of his head. Unfortunatly he had heard of the markless stallion, though he would not speak of the matter. For after all, Ka himself had had an encounter with a markless Jala of his own. A rather striking mare he had taken interest in. What is she up to now? The question popped up into his thoughts like magic, but he quickly drove it away.

It was with all the thought markless jala that his gaze had instinctly slipped to the spot right under the mare's eye, where her tears should be. Oddly enough, something seemed amiss. That was odd. With a flick of ears forward, Ka's gaze stayed glued to the spot, until he had to take a step closer to get a better look. No tears? Could they simply be of too light a coloring? "Seems so." Ka didn't quite know what to make of it, but he knew Hera to be part of the herd, so such a thing was a ridiculus accusation. That is, what he had been thinking earlier.

Hera merely nodded at his comment, satisfied with it. She had heard rumors about the Prince, but she didn’t want to share them with him. It wasn’t her place to gossip on such things to royalty. It was a privilege to be even speaking to the Prince, much less be this close to him. She had expected him to have run off a while ago. But his presence made her a little shy, which was unusual for her. Normally she would be all up on the stallion, flirting with him as much as she could. With Ka around she was too scared to do her normal routine with the stallion. His high status made him untouchable.

Upon hearing Ka’s second comment, she gazed at him and noticed that he was staring at something on her face, or actually something that was missing from her face. It was then that she realized that the prince had noticed her lack of tear-markings. She took a few timid steps back and lowered her head down until it was level with her shoulders. She suddenly felt ashamed to be in his presence and she wondered when he would pass her by.

Had it simply been the matter of herd member or not, no doubt his demeanor would have been different about the issue, but as it was the stallion wasn't all that concerned. Strange and unheard of, sure, and perhaps a bit appauling, but nothing that held much weight over his head. However, it was the lack of conversation that threw his mind into disarrest, and caught his attention. With a quirk of his muzzle to the side, sea green eyes gazed at the mare as she seemed to withdraw into herself and away from him. What was this, shyness? Shame? Perhaps it had been a bit of a touchy subject, tears, but it was a plain truth that he would not disregard for the sake of a punishing politeness. Punishing, to the buckskin stallion, for the falseness of it stung no matter what intent one had in saying it.

He wasn't sure though, he could have delved deeper into the mare's opinions about what was going on, try to figure out if she'd be friend or foe when the time came to put his years of plotting into motion. Such a thing, at the moment, might back fire if he brought up a subject such as his sister and Hera's possible answers. With some awkward shuffling of his feathered wings in the silence, Ka decided it would best be saved for another day. "G'day to you, Hera. Perhaps I'll see you around", he thought it a good enough good-bye; neither deserving of a false politeness, nor the angst of a bitter fairwell. Either way you sliced it, it seemed with lack of partcipation his encounter had ended, unwilling to sacrafice what he had worked so hard on creating by bringing it up to soon.

It was a bit of pity though, he had yet to grow aggitated with this one, so a longer stay wouldn't have been against him. Still, he had hoped for a little backbone, for all the shyness around him when it came to the mares was seriously cramping his style. Damn, to think the prince had yet to find much interest in him when it came to the ladyfolk. Oh well, such thoughts shouldn't even be surfacing the stallion's mind, no matter how curious a subject as it was. With a single flick of his dark tail, the stallion made a move to continue on his path to passing time; and getting that shoulder healed up.

Hera let the prince leave. Her shame of her missing tear-marks made her unaware of his departure. It took her a few moments to actually notice that he had said good-bye to her and then leave her alone. Why had she made a big deal about the tear-marks in the first place? Was it fear that Ka would disown her and shove her out of the herd?

Shaking her head, she slowly turned around and started walking away and towards her little den. Maybe there she could think things over about what she could have done to prevent the prince’s sudden departure away from her.
