I have made this thread to see what your thoughts are on certain events and other things relating to the xxxHolic manga. I say manga, only because the anime is shorter, and I like the manga better anyway. Likes, dislikes, and what not. I will start off with something I had been thinking about.


When I first started reading this series, I fell in love with Watanuki, and thought Himawari was absolutely adorable. Needless to say, when I started reading this I didn't really like Doumeki. Why? Because I like Watanuki, and Watanuki didn't seem to like Doumeki very much.

As the series progressed, and Doumeki did more and more for Watanuki, I found myself liking him more and more. And then it hit me; NO ONE would do stuff like that for another person that they were even just friends with. I was thinking, Doumeki has to like Watanuki a little more than that!

It all actually started in the volume with the Hydrangeas. Who would wait for someone 10 hours in the rain? It seems very unlikely that anyone would want to, and yet there Doumeki was ten hours later. With more and more after that, including how angry Doumeki was when Watanuki removed the Spider's grudge from Doumeki just to have it place on himself, to sharing half of his eye to half of his body's supply of blood? Who would do that for someone else unless they were in love with them?

When I realized this, I actually started crying.. Wow.. Why doesn't Watanuki noticed that Doumeki has a thing for him? And yet he is constantly talking about Himawari and how cute she is, all around Doumeki. I am sitting here wondering why this doesn't bother Doumeki one bit. Maybe because he knows Himawari does not have feelings for Watanuki? Possibly... I just wish Watanuki would get the hint at some point, come on CLAMP!

I'm still a little mad at domeki becaus he angers watanuki but if he wasn't there watanuki would be dead by now. I think it is sheer stubborness on watanuki's part that he isn't with domeki already

He sure does get it with Watanuki yelling at Doumeki most of the time. But I agree that it became apparent with the story of the hydrangeas. 10 hrs in the rain really shows that Doumeki cares a lot about Watanuki.

I don't think it was just the 10 hours in the rain that did it though. It was also the frantic digging, and the fact that he told Yuuko he did not want Watanuki to disappear.

It seems that in the more recent chapters, he blushes a lot at things Doumeki says to him.

I bought the book because of Watanuki's character. And of course I was all rooting for him and Himawari, then Domeki came along.

and was annoying! lol, actually i don't remember my first impression of him. i actually read a manga preview first, of the part in volume 2 when they told ghost stories (just himawari's story really).

but i do remember i would keep going back and wondering about when Watanuki asked to tell stories at his temple, he'd say "Well, it's fine with me, but..." and I'd PONDER over and over what he wasn't going to say! I'd keep wondering, "he's rather calm, and doesn't seem to dislike Watanuki the same way Wata dislikes him." I wanted to know what his deal was.

but I wasn't particurily fond of Domeki 'til later. I dunno when, it was pretty gradual. I guess I was also really focused on the events with the spirits, and trying to figure out the mysteries.

I became a Donuts fan when I read volume 6.
