Kyn Name: Graylin Bonded Name:Karly ( NC-chan) Event Rider Name: Karly Event Introduction Karly had come dressed in sensible clothes; thick cloth pants and a durable shirt. Graylin bumped against her leg, causing the woman to look down. "Hmm? Think you're ready for this, Graylin?" Her Kyn looked up, the holes in the sheet barely revealing the excited eyes. Karly laughed and kneeled down, wrapping an arm around Graylin's neck in a sort of hug. "Are you sure you want to try carrying me though all this?" She'd listened to the explaination that every Lunar was being timed going through the obstacles, once Kyn at a time. Graylin was a full-grown adult, but Karly wasn't all that light, despite being petite. She was fully worried that Graylin would be injured trying to carry her through most of the obstacles that required distance jumping. Graylin bumped her head into Karly's chest and sighed before growling out, "I'm sure. I am strong. I will prove this." The words would have sounded odd to most Riders, but it had taken the Lunar longer to trust someone enough to speak aloud again. Karly smiled and rose to her feet, patting Graylin's shoulder under the sheet, before holding up a simple leather harness for Graylin to step into so her hands could help tighten it comfortably. It wouldn't do to ask Graylin to remove the sheet the Lunar had draped on her form; Karly was sure it was for a reason and didn't ask. As Karly settled the harness on Graylin, making sure that the sheet still draped almost the same as before, she also made sure that it sat comfortably and wouldn't allow her to slip off in mid-jump. As they finished, Karly sighed. "Well, nothing left but to do it, ne?" Graylin gave a small whining-yip of impatience and bumped her nose into Karly's leg until her Rider got on. With all the proud demeaner of her species, she trotted toward the start line, awaiting the signal to start.

At a nod from the person starting the race (and most likely the person keeping the time), Graylin and Karly started off toward the first obstacle: a pit jump. As Graylin picked up speed, Karly leaned forward, to reduce wind resistance, and rocked in time to the Lunar's body movement. Two as one. Trying their best to synch, they watched as the lip of the pit came closer.

Karly let out a whoop as they cleared the pit, with more than enough space to spare. "Good work Graylin!" she called out, giving an odd clinging hug as they continued on toward the next immediate obstacle. Graylin huffed, keeping up her speed to a trot, so they were at a rope bridge within a few seconds. They paused before it.
"...you sure you want to try carrying me across this one? It might be easier for me to go first..." Karly blew back some of her straggling hair from her face, the spray dampening them both as she leaned forward to be heard above the roar from the waterfall. Graylin bobbed her head and Karly settled back uneasily, trying to make sure she would move with Graylin but stay centered while they crossed. Taking a deep breath, she tapped Graylin's shoulder and they moved forward.

Now dripping wet and with shaky legs, Graylin and Karly stopped on the other side of the bridge for a brief rest to loosen up before continuing. "Close one, that...good thing we're not going back over it anytime soon." Leaning close, the Lunar and her Rider shared a smile and a laugh, getting up from where they had plopped down to recover from the nerve-wracking crossing. With higher hopes, they got ready to move onward, Karly clambering back onto Graylin's back.
They moved as quickly as possible, hoping to make up for the brief stop. Upon reaching a stretch of river water, Karly made a face. "This is way different than swimming in the ocean...but I guess we can think of it kind of like a riptide?" The two of them took to scanning the bank to try and figure out the best place to start from. Karly finally got down and shook her head. "We might as well just pick a place and go. I'll try and keep myself upstream while you angle us across. Okay?" Graylin fidgeted, obviously annoyed with not having Karly riding on top safely, but still went along with the suggestion for speed. With a nod to each other, the two wadded in and started swimming for the far shore.

The current ended up being stronger than expected, Karly quickly ending up downstream of Graylin and pulling them both along toward the drop and the safety net stretched across. With a mighty reversal, Graylin managed to return them both to the side they had started from, just missing the need for the net. Panting, Karly flopped onto her back to look up at her Lunar friend. "I think...I'll try riding this time." Graylin huffed, looking appeased, and waited as Karly scrambled back onto the harness and had a good grip, before taking off for the upstream clearing.
Karly's eyes widened as the clearing quickly approached but Graylin didn't slow down. "Don't tell me you're thinking off -"
And with a leap outward, they went into the river.

As the bounced onto the opposing river bank, Karly slid off and flopped half on her side, half on her stomach, looking the worse for wear. "Ugh...please don't do that again...you are -not- some sort of deer..." Just remembering the brief moment of crossing made her nausious; Graylin had decided to try making up distance in the shallows by making forward leaps (regardless of Rider) and then quickly paddling across the center, returning to forward lunges in the shallows of the opposite side. Once the world stopped spinning, Karly rolled over, now throughly muddy, and went back to the river to clean some of the mud off. Looking up at Graylin, Karly started laughing. "You look like a wet cat, my dear!" And it could be taken that way, with the now no longer white sheet sticking to the fur and form underneath like a second coat, delineating the spines on back and tail. Graylin stared and then snorted, turning away to start walking toward the next obstacle.
"Alright, alright! No time for jokes..." Karly quickly scrambled out of the water and followed Graylin.
Graylin stopped in front of a small wooden pillar, which had a small bowl placed on top, containing part of a rough ball that looked to be made of natural rubber. Beyond the pillar was a fairly large and empty field, the ground looking rather disturbed, as various depression and holes had been filled in and then had water sprinkled over the top to compact it. "Eeyah, Graylin...this might be hard. But I know your nose is sharp." Karly tapped the bowl with her fingers. "Get a good whiff and see if you can find a match amongst the dirt."
Graylin touched her nose to the ball, jerking back as if slapped and coughing a bit. Karly made a face. "That bad, huh? Good luck!" With a slap on the shoulder, Graylin moved out into the field, nose (and head) bobbing about in an effort to find the object needed to move on.

With a barked "Here!", Graylin quickly dug up the required sphere as Karly ran over, pawing it in her Rider's direction. Karly scooped it up, shoving it in the 'Rescue' bag they'd been given (for emergencies only), and scrambled onto Graylin's back. "Alright! Fantastic, Graylin! Let move!" As if in agreement, Graylin started running, letting out a short howl of joy, with Karly joining in as best a human can.
The cry rang and then echoed strangely, telling them that they were close to the next part. Almost breathless, Karly slid off Graylin's back as the Lunar slid to another halt at the lip of the canyon before them, a ledge jutting out toward the next step of their journey. "Oohh...not as far as the pit jump, but there are several of them...meaning that we can't stop. You ready?" Karly glanced at Graylin, who merely wagged her tail, the stiff gusts coming down the canyon causing the sheet to start drying out and rustle in the wake of the whistling breezes.
Karly once again scrambled onto Graylin's back, the pair of them moving back down the trail a bit to get running room. Remembering the feeling of the first jump, Karly crouched as Graylin shot off toward the ledge lip and the first stone top beyond. They could do this! Right?

Much like the first jump, each successful jump only strengthened their 'in-tune', reading each other and the air with a depth previously unknown. I think I might see about aquireing some magic books for Graylin and the others... Everything seemed a little clearer now...as if the world was opening up. With nothing but joy in their step, they landed on the otherside of the canyon, slowing down to just a trot as they spotted the well-worn path winding down to a lower level. "Next stop - the underground," Karly speaking the words in a sing-song way, and Graylin lifting her legs in time as the words were repeated.
Before long they were at the bottom, looking up at the pillars, whose tops' they had just gone over, and down to the right, where the river widened out even further. "Bet this would make a great bathing spot...if it wasn't hard to get to." They then looked to the left, at the ledges chained together, a duplicate setup on the far side. "Ugh...we need to jump between each pillar and land on the ledge each time. Let's hope we don't slip." As if in protest to such thoughts, Graylin grabbed the back of Karly's shirt and tugged gently. "Haha...you're right. Better to keep up our 'just do it' approach rather than think about it." With playful grab of Graylin's muzzle so that the Lunar would let go, Karly once again got on her friend and companion, anticipation making them both figitty.
At some unseen signal, Graylin started her run, gathering herself for the first leap between.

With that magical air that seemed to be following them since the beginning of the race, each leap was the freedom of leaving the ground, only to touch down again long enough to maintain speed and change position for the next leap. Almost too soon, they ran out of pillars to jump between, landing on a ledge that led into a rather wide cave. Still running off what was probably an adrenaline high, they started investigating the entrance into the darkness. It narrowed fairly fast, which meant that they'd have to follow one after the other. "Hmm..." Karly pulled out the bizarre sphere from earlier, making note of the color, and dunked it in the river, washing it as clean as she could while keeping a good grip on it. As she finished cleaning, she crouched down so Graylin could easily see it. The thing was somewhat springy, with teeth marks very visible on most of it. "They said we're supposed to use this in the cave...what do you think it does?"
Graylin wrinkled her nose and then looked at the sky, where the sun was shining. "Let it dry in the sun? Need calm, I think."
Karly flicked her tongue out and placed the sphere in a shallow depression to dry in the sunshine, before glancing around and pealing her shirt off. With nervous fingers, she flicked the drying mud off the shirt, even as she tried to calm her racing pulse. She got a little -too- focused, jumping when a cold nose poked her bare back. "Ah! I guess we can't spend anymore time on trying to figure it out...looks like it has to be carried in your mouth dear...sorry?" She wiggled into her shirt and looked at her sheet covered Lunar.
"Fine. No like it though." Graylin wrinkled her muzzle before picking up the sphere in her mouth, making odd noises the whole time. With a shake of her head, the Lunar led them into the darkness, Karly making a noise of intrest when the sphere started glowing. Now they only had to find the way up and out to the next part...

They somehow managed to crawl through the maze in almost complete darkness (complete darkness in Karly's case, as she had been following Graylin, to make sure the Lunar didn't get snagged on anything). The going had been a bit slow, but finally ending up somewhere with room to stand killed the beginnings of claustrophobia in both. Graylin was still making noise about the distasteful sphere, shining the area with enough light to see a bit by.
Karly giggled and poked at the ground, listening to the slight 'squish' it made. "Must be some sort of moss...anyways, we need to go up, me thinks." She looked up, seeing a 'hole' of light that wasn't very big around. "Geez...long way to go, love...see a way up?"
Graylin whined around the sphere, the special set of claws being dug into a spot on the way to call her Rider over. Her eyes had adjusted to the gloom, spotting the first few ledges.
Karly noticed what had Graylin's attention and sighed. "More jumping? And in the dark, no less..." She scrambled onto her Lunar's back, giving another clinging-hug. "Let's give it a try!"
Graylin growled softly and then gathered herself to jump to the first ledge...

Tears streaming from her eyes due to the sheer brightness, Karly continued to cling to Graylin as they finished scrambling up out of the pit, pausing just enough to let their eyes adjust so that they wouldn't run into anything before trotting toward the place they'd started from. They knew they probably looked a bit odd, covered in dirt and squinting as they went, but they were proud of themselves, for having gone through the whole thing with little enough accidents. And the bond between them was strong for it, finally allowing them to at least emotionally sense each other.
With a ragged but joyful howl, Graylin and Karly crossed the finish line.
