Lunar Obstacle Race: Taku Kyn Name: Taku Bonded Name: poke mattix Event Rider Name: pokenator Event Introduction - The racing grounds were starting to fill up pretty fast. Poke could see a few other kyn had already begun the race, as each kyn would be judged on their performance individually. She checked her watch; they had some time left. Taku was sitting proudly next to his rider as they studied the map that all racers were supplied with. Making sure they knew the exact route they had to take and going over the plans they had on how to tackle each obstacle. "I wonder how they expect us to read this" she grumbled, her nerves making her concentration slide. Her kyn walked to the other side to see if she had it upside down. "You don't have to be so nervous about this race" Taku told her, gently switching the map around so it was the right way. "All we have to do is to try our best, and have some fun in the meantime" He seemed quite excited about this race, but was staying calm and doing his best to reasure poke that she wasn't about to cause him to fall of a large cliffside "Yah, yah I know" she ruffled his head and fur up just like a person would do to their pet dog, cept it would be just a big as them. "though the tunnel thing is what bugs me the most. Seems kinda small, and I hope we don't fall off the cliff". She then slipped on what seemed to be large rubber arm guards. They purpose would become clear later. Re-reading the instructions again, Taku re-adjusted the moon claws over his feet. "I don't think the tunnel would be so small for a human compared to a lunar kyn, and you should see how many nets they have around the whole course. It's like a padded road". A whistle sound then sounded behind them; Their turn was about to begin. "crap! quick lets line up!" she hoisted herself onto her lunar and they padded over towards the starting line. They noticed a few other kyns would be going by themselves and without their riders. Taku however was quite used to dragging his rider around so half the time he would forget she was ever there. Excited, tense, and nervous, they waited for the signal for them to start running.

The starting signal ended up being a anticlimax; The judge who had whistled was standing next to the line and asked, "are you two ready?" Once the pair nodded, he started to explain the rules to them.
oh for crying out louddd, hurry up I'm about to die here! poke thought to herself, barely listening to what the judge was saying.
Then finaly, he finshied explaing the course and rules, and with a "off you go then" The duo was across the line and had started the race!
Taku had started off with a steady yet quick jog so he could view the race course ahead, and have ample time to make decisions.
It didn't take long for him to get through the forest and reach the first obstacle, the pit jump. It did look large, but for a lunar it wasn't much of a challenge.
"Hold on tight poke!" he told her and as she tightened her grip, he picked up speed in order to make it accross the pit.

Poke felt her heart beat somewhere in her thoat as Taku lept over the pit. for a few sickening seconds she thought they wouldn't make it over the gap, but then he landed, safe and sound, on the opposite side.
She had to admit though. the feeling of being weightless for a few seconds was pretty dam cool.
"okay, the rope bridge should be coming up around here" poke checked the map again as taku sped on through the course. And sure enough, the bridge came into view. Slowing to a halt, poke jumped off him and looked at the bridge. It looked stable enough..
"Just like we planed.." poke took a firm grip of the rope and realised it was almost soaked. She placed her foot on the first rope, and then continued on.
Taku however, would have a bit more trouble crossing as he had no hands in which to grip the sides. This was were poke would come in, as her clothes would provide something to hold onto in case he fell. Well, that was the plan anyway...

They weren't more then a few steps across when a gust of wind caused the bridge the swing precariously to the side. Poke froze in place, but taku could not get a grip on..anything really. Before he fell he lept forward and grabbed the first thing he could- pokes tail.
The judges at the starting line could swear they heard a female voice call out, as poke screamed in disconfort. Didn't wolves have one of the strongest bites in the animal kindom?
Their plan had not accounted for the lunar kyns weight either, and as taku fell throuh the bridge he ended up dragging poke with him. They both fell into the saftey of the net below.
"next time..." poke manged to get out. "You're going first..."
"sorry.." Taku replied guiltily

Their second attempt at the rope bridge proved much more sucessful then their first. They quickly got on, Taku going first instead of poke, and made their way across one step at a time. Near the end they could both hear the wind starting to pick up, so poke managed to grab His tail and he jumped before the bridge started to sway again. Lucky... Although it wouldn't of hurt as much for him since his tail was much more bushy. They moved on.
"Whats next on the map?" Taku asked later on while poke took out the map. He needed of asked as they had already arrived at the river. All they had to do was cross it now
Just like at the pit, Taku sped up his jog so he could get a good run up and not have to swim so far accross the river. At the last minute he lept,e high into the air. However in mid jump, poke pulled her feet up so she was in a crouch and then jumped off of his back. This time her plan was to make it to the opposite side of the river in one go, while Taku would swim the rest of the way. If she stayed on his back it would make it alot harder for him to get across.

Because of the double jump, poke was able to land on the other side of the river without two much trouble. She turned around to see Her kyn was doing fairly well against the strong currents. Before long Taku joined her, shaking his fur of excess water and giving poke a shower by doing so.
Now came one of the hardest parts of the course, the Lantern dig. Originaly she wondered why it would be so hard; A lunar kyns sense of smell was just as good as any bloodhound. But then she noticed how big the actual area was, and also noted that the item they had to find would be buried as well, so looking for it would be pointless. It could take a long time to find this item
Taku had walked to the sample of the item, smelling it carefully and remembering the scent in his mind. Turing around he kept his face low to the ground, trying to pick up a trail so he could locate the item.

The Lunar felt a sense of pride well up in him as he quickly found a scent trail. It was faint, but he was still able to follow it. The trail led him to a area a little ways off from the sample, and he began to dig furiously untill the object was unearthed.
"Now that, was some awsome tracking skills!" poke ran over to her kyn and was surprized to see that the object was green and it was glowing... perhaps this was some sort of kyn magic? anyhow...
handing the object to poke, they continued on through the digsite, keeping a quick pace, untill They came to the ledge that was shown on the map.
"I feel like I'm in some video game" poke joked as taku took another run- off towards the ledge, aiming to jump off and to reach the first pillar.

Taku had made the jump with ease, the pillars being within reasonable length of the ledge. However as he had landed and then jumped towards the next pillow, poke had accidenly lost her grip and fallen off him onto the pillar. Not a pleasent experience for her backside...
"Bugger!" she mumbled and stood up. The lunar had quickly realised she wasn't with him and turing around. He was on the second pilliar.
"are you okay poke?" he called out. "Wait there I'll come get you!"
"wait, wait don't move! you might fall off and waste time. I'll just jump it myself"
For someone such as poke to jump the gap between pilliars, was quite a boast indeed. They were designed for lunars, and not people.
Still, this girl was not one to turn down such a challenge. She edged backwards so she had some running distance, and then sped across the pillar and lept with all her strength. She looked like a lemur in mid air, especialy with her tail stretched out. However it was clear that, in this case the pilliars were to far appart for poke to actually make it...
Taku had realised this from the start, and had been charging up his light and fire magic in order to lend some assistance. He stood at the end of the pilliar and opened his mouth to let out a stream of fire, except it was covered in a bright yellow substance making It look just like a glowing rope. too. It shot towards her as she fell, and she grabbed it before she hit the net (or smacked her face into the pillar), and used it to swing herself across the rest of the distance. And with a swift tug of taku's head the rope shot upwards, bringing poke with it, allowing her to land on the same pilliar as taku was.
"Now that..was interesting..." She quickly jumped onto taku's back, and they jumped the rest of the pillars before speeding off for the next and hardest obstacle
[magic: Light fire: Essentially all it is is a a stream of fire that is able to extend or retract with Taku's command. However Light magic is used to coat the fire in a bright substance, allowing poke to grab it and not burn herself. Because of it's simplicity, Taku didn't need a lengthy amount of time to charge it up.]

The path leading to bottom of the canyon held alot more twists and turns then they expected. But at least there was only one path that they had to take.
They weren't to sure as to how much time they had taken so far, and so decided to try and speed things up as best they could. Once the duo were at the bottom, they could see the ledge that they had to reach. However, the ledge looked precarious and easy to fall off from. Still, they weren't gonna get anywhere by just looking at it...
The first jump was simple, and Taku reached the edge with little trouble. But as they saw from the other side, it definitely was hard to get a good footing. So to prevent himself from falling off he made the jump to the other side. Again he was able to make it, but without a good run-off his back legs were dangeling from the ledge.
"Careful taku!" poke jumped onto the ledge, and tried to help pull taku onto the ledge. This was were the arm guards would come into play, as the lunar was able to bite down onto pokes arm without actualy hurting her, and hoist himself onto the ledge. They had to be quicker now as they could feel the ledge crack under their combined weight, and they made another jump across the ledge To the right side. Just one more jump.
And at last, after Taku walked further along the ledge this time and then jumped acorss, they were at the cave, which was the second last obstacle in the course!
Taku then found the beginging of the cave, with the help of poke who held up the glowing object (she had placed it in her pocket for safe keeping), and begun to dig his way through...

"awww man" poke groaned while taku uncovered the entrance to the cave. She was not looking forward to being in such a confined space.
"don't worry, I'll make sure we don't get stuck" Taku reasured her, and he waited while poke squeezed herself through the entrance before he ventured in after her.
While it was definately a tight fit for taku as he squeezed through on his belly, it was an easy crawl for poke. Still, she secretly hoped the cave wasn't about to collapse.
It took them alot longer to get through the tunnel, as it appeared to be twice as long as many of the pathways on the course. After what seemed like ages, they emerged on the other side of the tunnel into the sunlight.
"oh man! fresh air!" Poke stretched, and taku emerged as well, happy to be able to move properly after being cramped for so long. He grinned as he looked towards the top of the pit; the finish line was just up there!
The two quickly moved towards one of the many ledges that jutted out of the wall, poke holding the object while taku jumping up the wallside.

Up, and up, and up, and up again!. They had to backtrack along some of the ledges, and some quick footwork was in order as the others weren't very stable, but they managed to get towards the top without much trouble.
poke and taku emerged at the top of the pit, and they made a final dash towards the finish line and crossed it.
"OOHHHH YEAH BAABBYYYY!" she had literaly flipped off his back while Taku Sat down, tired but very proud.
One of the judges walked over to the celebrating duo, and poke stoped her dancing about. "yes sir?" she asked.
"Do you have the orb from the course?" he asked her, and for a few sickening minutes she realised she had dropped it when they had gotten to the top. If she didn't hand it over they would be disqualified!
Thankfully, taku had picked it up before it rolled over the edge, and he handed it to the judge.
They had finished the course!
