Kyn Name: Isis
Bonded Name: Ganon Firenight
Event Rider Name: Ganon Firenight

Event Introduction

Ganon knelt by Isis at the starting line, looking slowly around the forest. The path for the event was clearly lined out, but nonetheless Ganon felt it was necessary to remind her of a few last-minute things. "Remember, Isis, don't try to just jump the whole rope bridge. I know you can jump a long ways, but that's tough. Focus on setting the middles of your paws on the ropes." Isis just boredly replied, "Mmhmm," but one ear remained perked to listen.

Ganon continued, "And do not forget the fourth obstacle, the Lantern Dig. I know you're good, Isis, but you'll need that thing. You can't see in the dark and it's too hard to use magic and jump around. Don't try to overreach yourself, I'd rather have you mess up and lose time than see you get hurt." Isis just snorted.

"I don't mess up, and I don't get hurt. Can I just go now?" She ran the course once more in her head-- they had practiced it a few times-- and stuck her tongue out in distaste. She did not like the Tunnel Crawl. Dirt was unfit for someone of her quality.

"No, Isis. We have to wait for the judges. Cool your horses, I'll be cheering for you." Isis just grumbled and impatiently stamped a paw. She started to pace, but Ganon had her sit and meditate in preparation for the race.

Once the judge arrived and explained the rules, Isis stood ready by the starting line. A moment later she lunged across it, bolting toward the first obstacle, the pit.

Isis was a very special Lunar. The wings on her paws gave her extremely light steps, almost a cushion of air beneath the pads of her paws that allowed her to jump great heights and leap great distances and even hover for several seconds. As such, neither she nor Ganon expected the Pit to be a problem.

The narcissistic Lunar raced toward the black-mouthed pit, which spanned the width of the path through the forest, and as she reached the edge she leapt, moving up to a great height before she began her descent toward the other side. But as cocky as Isis was, Ganon was nervous. Mistakes could always happen...

She landed about as effortlessly as she possibly could in a million years and with a cocky look back at her Rider she raced down the path toward the next Obstacle: the Rope Bridge.

Rope bridges feel unstable, but they're pretty much a breeze for humans. Humans, of course, have opposable thumbs. Lunars do not have opposable thumbs and so they're not quite so good at dealing with rope bridges as humans are. Isis reached the bridge and hesitated just a moment, raising her ears to feel the wind, and then she slowly put one foot onto a rope, centering the pad and stepping to the next. She continued the pattern, one paw after the other, and gradually sped up as she developed a rhythm, moving as quickly as she could for the other side.

Halfway across the bridge, Isis missed a step. The wind changed and the rope was wet, that was why. It certainly couldn't be her fault, that would be impossible! Perfection doesn't mess up. Nonetheless she fell, landing in the ropes with her paw dangling through them and looking straight down at where that waterfall hit the river far below with pulverizing force.

She would never admit to anyone that she froze, but she did. She froze for several seconds, just watching the spot where the waterfall became the river, and then she quickly pushed herself up, hunching down against the rope and trying to get her footing again so she could start. One paw after the other... slowly, that's a girl... go... that's right, thats the way, Isis... now, keep doing that... Yes, I can do this...

Once more she began her passage to the other side.

Once on solid ground again she shook herself and took a deep breath, then started to run again, following the curving path around toward the other river that went over the lip of the canyon. It was deep and wide, but she had crossed it before on her practice runs. It was important to get as far across it as possible without swimming, to save as much time as she could. As she came toward the river she charged a small wind spell, wagging her tail some and letting the aura of magic swirl around her. It slowed her down a little, but it would pay off when she jumped.

And jump she did when she hit the edge of the river, soaring up and using her foot-wings to hover on a cushion of air. She released the wind spell then, causing air to sweep up behind her and extend the range of her jump further. She came down around the middle of the river and began to paddle as fast and hard as she could toward the far bank, barking a few times with the strain and effort working against the strong current.

Isis felt her paws come down in the muddy river bottom and began to drag herself in, hunkering down against the current and fighting her way to the bank. Once out she shook herself vigorously to get dry and sighed, then trotted to the sample of the substance, which was embedded in a rock. She sniffed all over it, getting the smell of the substance in her mind and waving her tail slowly back and forth.

Immediately she set about snuffling at the ground. The whole area was well-tilled, so looking for mounds where it might be buried was futile. She just had to find it by scent. She picked up something faint and followed it, nose to the ground. Bah, digging... couldn't she hire someone with less dainty paws to do that? Once she located what she thought was the source of the scent, she looked down and apologized to her paws before she began to dig furiously at the soil.

A green glow shone through the dirt and Isis quickly cleared it away, then grabbed the object in her mouth and raised her head triumphantly. First try, boo-ya! She turned then and ran to the path again, bounding over to where a ledge extended out over the canyon. She stepped out on it, testing its strength, but it was quite thick and well-supported. She felt safe. A quick look down at the net, then across at the first pillar. Time to take this one at a time... not such a tough first jump, especially for her.

She shook herself, limbered up, and then leapt and floated easily onto the first pillar. Damn right! She turned in a quick circle on top of the pillar, getting her bearings. She licked her muzzle over slowly, and raised her paw, rubbing her face. She bunched up her hips and took three steps and a leap, floating toward the next pillar.

Isis landed easily and bounced right for the third pillar, pulling off a showly little flip in the air before she landed. Now she was just showing off for the kyn back at the starting line! The fourth jump was the longest and so she paused on the third pillar and got a running jump. She suddenly got caught by a rogue gust of wind and faltered off-course. With a yelp she reached out and caught her paws on the rock, clambering frantically and pulling hard.

She dragged herself up in a few seconds and panted quietly, lying on her side for a few more seconds before standing. "Oof... stupid wind. Someone will pay for that," she growled, then she made the short leap to the other side. So far, Isis was setting a high bar for the other competitors. She trotted to the path and quickly ran down the side of the cliff, occasionally jumping down at shorter parts to save time. At the bottom she sniffed, looking out at the shallower, wider part of the river, then back into the canyon and she stepped onto the wide ridge near the bottom. A deep breath. These were long jumps, most kyn would probably have to jump and kick off a pillar to get all the way across. She let out a long slow breath and ran for the edge the first time. She had been dreading this. She had never been able to do this right the first time...

Isis stopped and swallowed hard, whining. She backed up against the wall, pressing tight against it for a moment. "Okay, okay, Isis... relax, it's time to do this... don't be afraid to kick off a pillar... won't make you any less of a goddess if you're careful. Let's do this, huh?" She stepped forward, prepared to jump, then turned around and whined, sitting down and flattening her ears against her head. The poor femme was just about having a panic attack. But she was wasting time! No, she had to do this, to prove she was the best!

Her brow furrowed. She could do this! Simple leaps! No big trouble. That was the way to think about it. This would be no trouble at all. She stood up and growled, then wiggled her rump and leapt for the first pillar, ready to push off it ato try and hit the far side of the canyon.

Isis hit the pillar and slid straight down, then fell off it into the water. She was thrown out to the wider, shallow area by the strong current and she stood up, growling and shaking herself. She ran back up, this time pissed. That was just a stupid mistake, and couldn't possibly be her fault! Someone screwed her up somehow, that was the only explanation! She shook herself vigorously to dry off, and this time she prepared a wind spell and leapt, sweeping the wind up behind her to carry her across the gap. She pressed her paws to the far wall and dropped onto the ledge below it, then ran a bit, preparing another wind spell, and leapt into the gap between the second and third pillars.

She missed the gap and grabbed the third pillar, then pushed off it hard and made it back to the previous ledge, where she sat down again to think. "Okay... okay, that worked once. You can do this, honey... Maybe you need to get higher. Okay, just... just jump, then kick off the wall." She nodded definitely, then hesitated for several more seconds.

She looked up, then leapt upward and pressed her paws against the wall before she pushed off hard, leaping once more toward the gap between the second and third pillars. Take two.

It clicked very suddenly, she soared straight to the opposite wall and kicked off it, between the third and fourth pillars where she landed on the right side ledge. She leapt up again, then kicked off the wall and came down right on the ledge of the alcove. Of course, she hadn't left her ball, she had put it down to talk to herself and picked it back up whenever she was done. Yeah, she was a little crazy. Now that object was glowing inside the cave. Quickly she trotted in, glad to be away from that last obstacle, and she looked for the top of that hole. She really hated this part, she came out all dirty. But nonetheless she dug and widened the spit before crawling in and starting her journey toward the pit.

Isis suddenly squeaked and almost dropped the object as suddenly her hips got wedged into a tight space in the passage.

Damnit, I'm going on a diet... She growled and squirmed some, then pulled herself through and whimpered before continuing to crawl down that gods-forsaken tunnel. Just a little further, right? She always lost track of her sense of time in there, nothing to do but press on until she got out.

Ohhhh, sweet freedom! She was out of that little tunnel, and she shook herself vigorously, scattering dirt around her and using the glowing object to look around carefully. There in front of her, up on the wall, was a ledge. No problem! She jumped up onto it, then looked for the next one. Just a bit higher up. She jumped, slid her paws a bit against the wall, and dropped onto the ledge she'd been aiming for. There were some more ledges, but she could see one that she thought she could probably reach, a little higher and across the pit. She tried that trick from the Pillar Weave and jumped up, then pushed off the wall for extra distance and height before she came down toward that ledge...
