It was Aman who suggested she take some time to herself. 'Go out and meet other beta on your own, Elanorriel.' He had told her gently but firmly in the quiet way he had. It was hard to argue such a notion, for she knew his reasons behind it were sound. 'There is beauty to be found in the larger tank as well.'
And there was. Her blue tinged green hair flowed behind her as the evolved female glided effortlessly & easily through the water. She could see a coral reef ahead, salmon coloring of the coral itself dotted with small white tufts like flowers. A gentle smile graced her lips, the sight touching a special place in her heart. This seemed a perfect place to spend a few quiet hours, enjoying the natural beauty around.

 Hide swam out of his big family tank, having just finished babysitting his two great nephews he thought I little time to himself was in order.
He always seemed to get stuck babysitting his brother's and sister's children and now his niece and nephew's children. Not that he minded cause he loves them all dearly. But he thought it might be nice to met someone like the rest of his family and start one of his one.
As he swam he noticed a fish of brightly green and blue and swam closer. Once he was close enough he saw it was a girl mermaid. He swam over to her and said "Hi, my names Hideyoshi but everyone just calls me Hide for short. Whats your name?

The female turned unhurriedly in the water at the sound of the voice clearly directed at her and smiled gently at the male beta who greeted her. A pleasant change from her tankmates. "Mae govannen, Hideyoshi. I am called Elanorriel."
Her voice rang soft & dulcet, making her seem both young and old at the same time. "Enjoying the scenery?"

Hide smiled "It is very nice to meet you Elanorriel." He looked around at the scenery before actually responding "Oh yes, it is very nice and I can actually look at it since I don't have little eggus and frys to take care of out here" he smiled some more. "So what brings you out and about on this fine day my dear?"

Bright blue eyes gazed out across the water as if looking into something unseen. "It's been a long time since there were young in our tank..."
A gentle smile as her full attention returned to the adult beta. "Call it a change of scenery, Hideyoshi. What about you?"

"You don't have little frys in your tank? Well your lucky then that you don't have to babysit them almost 24/7" he sighed and looked at her "Changes in scenery are always nice. I am here to have a break from my great niece's and great nephew's that I was babysitting cause I'm the only one who doesn't have children of my own so I'm the babysitting uncle, if you know what I mean"

Her voice fell into thoughtful octaves once more. "Sen tîr? I suppose it depends where you come from. I never minded the young in our tank, but Gaebor & Jia YaHuo have been adults for quite some time now. Even Topanga's young are adults, though I was less involved in their upbringing as she and Aki raised their frys in their own home for the most part." Perhaps she was rambling, in a reminiscing sort of way, but the elegant female did not seem to mind. Rather she seemed happy in a distant sort of way as if recalling something that brought her joy. "Although I do suspect from her glow that my tanksister is expecting again. She makes a joyful mother."
Bright blue eyes caught his then. "Mae... I suppose that is the long way of saying that though I can comprehend your situation, I do not fully understand it on a personal level. Im gosta ours is a small family as it were." Elanorriel paused, her tail swaying easily in the water. "Goheno nin. If it's not too forward of me, how is it that you're the only one without children? It seems you must like them well enough, or you would not agree to watch them. Instead you could simply disappear to the shared tank here and avoid such duties, Ae anírach."
There was no judging in the female's eyes or expression & her tone spoke only of gentle concern. It seemed more that she asked the question to let Hido think of the matter than to discover the answers for herself.

He looked at her a moment before responding "No it's not to forward of you. The rest of my family is happily settled down and I just haven't found the one for me, it seems to be much easier for them than me. I do love them dearly and I would love to have frys of my own but no one wants to have children with me" he sighed and same over to a pebble and started flicking it with his tail fin

She watched him thoughtfully. Slowly she went over to the flowers that had caught her attention earlier and lightly ran a graceful finger over the petals of one bloom. Elanorriel did not speak for some time.
"If you are always watching the young ones of your family, how often have you been able to find a chance to look for yourself?"

"I have had the time in between the births oh them. That why I'm out her now my other nephew is going to have children soon so I was able to get my parent to look after the little ones for a bit so that I remain sane when the next batch comes along" he laughed a little.
"I noticed that you seem to have a fondness for flowers"

Elanorriel nodded gracefully, her blue streaked green tresses shifting through the water. "Mae, perhaps you will find one who suits you this time." Her lips curled, always pleased to hear someone laugh.
"Tancave. I enjoy all of nature, but flowers have a special place in my heart. Perhaps because most have such a short duration but without which the plants can not continue their lines." She turned her slight smile to Hido then, a gentleness in her blue eyes. "And what, Hideyoshi, brings you happiness?"

"I am glad flowers make you happy, what makes me happy besides my family would have to be seeing others happy and putting their happiness before mine which would explain why I take care of the little ones all the time."

Her laughter bubbled lightly at his question in a carefree manner. "Law... No. I have never taken the time to find anyone, much less come to know someone well enough to begin a family. Law, my tankmates are enough family for me." There was only the faintest hint of wistfulness to her light voice and perhaps hinted at within her bright blue eyes but Elanorriel was clearly otherwise content with her situation in life. "Do not be sorry for asking, Hideyoshi. It is a natural thing to ask, among beta."

"Well thats good, as long as your not alone and have someone to talk to. My immediate family is big but then I have several others in our main tank that have families as well so there is always someone to talk to. I guess it is better to have friends and family while I look for someone to settle down with." he nodded as he talked and really did know what else to say to the pretty fish in front of him

She nodded thoughtfully. Did she really have someone to talk to? Elanorriel was the one the others came to when they sought advice -especially if they did not want it scattered with the Christian strictures that Aman tended to favor. She could speak with Aman certainly, but usually they kept to tank & family issues. Sometimes when their human came by the tank she would speak to her, or to a few of the other creatures in their family beyond the tank... but that was rare and rarer still were the times Elanorriel actually said things of a personal nature.
"Friends... you have many friends? I suppose those I call family are in truth friends, for we are not related save that we share our tank."
