"Why me?" Shelby asked aloud for the first time, though he had been thinking it for hours. He was currently "chained" to the newest Anthro in the Nullspace, though Mel had been around Forever. As they walked down the sidewalk, the demonbunny somehow managed to scuff the concrete with each step without losing his natural grace.
"Because, if I'm to be your new Mummy, you're going to have to show me around." It was Shelb's fault "she" was now a "he," and by rights, this young whipper-snapper was now responsible for Mel! "Call it 'male bonding,' if you will." The draconic demon snickered evilly and yet managed to retain an outward normalcy.
Shelby groaned and rolled his reptilian eyes.

Riley sighed, looking over at the demon. Why did Fanta make him go with the new guy? It wasn't fair! He could be out partying! But noooo, he had to spend 'quality time' with this Taion guy. What were they supposed to for this... quality time anyway!?
Taion glanced at the fox, frowning. "You know, you could look a bit happier. I don't know why you're sulking."
"Maybe because I don't want to be here with you! I party. That's it. Not babysit!"
"Excuse me? Babysitting? Who said I needed to be babysat? You're the one acting like a child!"

Shelby's keen ears (they were huge, after all) caught faintly the conversation of another pair of anthros who seemed to be in the same situation. A fleeting sly grin of his own guided their steps in that direction.
"Ooh, where are we going next?" Hanging lightly on the other's arm, Mel leaned against him lightly. Any attempt at escape would find an iron grip and solidly-planted feet. Claws are amazing things to have!
"You'll see," Shelby muttered flatly, eyes half-lidded. Not that he was about to leave Mel with strangers, just... just...
"YOU! You filthy thief!"
Shelby jumped as Mel all but screeched in his ear. "What the hell is your problem?!" he yelled back.
"That! That...that! That! Just that. My eloquence escapes me." But Mel had the presence of mind to point directly at Taion with an accusing talon. "That b*****d stole my necklace! Er, which I had stolen from him, and he before that stole from someone else... but I digress. HIM!"
Well, so much for his half-baked plan. Shelby muttered to himself. "And again I say, 'Why me?' Why the hell?"

Riley was about to argue some more when a sudden screech came from an anthro a few feet away. The fox openly stared, what the..!? Taion hadn't stolen anything!
The violet demon's eyes flashed at the accusation. "Excuse me, I stole nothing! And especially nothing from you; I've never seen you before and would rather have liked it to stay that way!"

Mel froze with his mouth half-open a faint flush now coloring his dark skin. Oh no, not another of those premonitory flashes... "I... wasn't talking to you. Whatever could you be talking about? I was referring to someone behind you, whom has since run off thanks to your interference!" The dragon huffed and stomped off past them, dragging Shelby along with him.
"Er... Sorry for the confusion?" Shelby blinked in befuddlement and tried to walk alongside Mel instead of being man-handled. Grip-marks would show up garishly on his overly-pale skin.
"Well I never... now I'll never get it back." When they were past the other two, Mel seemed to be wearing a curious expression that fit not at all with what he had just said. Relief?

An eyebrow raised. "Oh really? I scared him off? Now why don't I believe you? Oh yes, because there was no one behind us! And of course you wouldn't get back what was stolen, you're too forward and a p***y."
Now Riley's jaw dropped at what Taion just said. Did he... just insult a total stranger?! What was wrong with him?! "U-um... ah... let's go now Tai..." the fox suggested, gently tugging on the demon's arm.

Mel's eyes flashed and something snapped. Call it a mental ghost from the days when he was an entire handful of nationalities known for their pride, stubbornness, and warlike behavior. Call it a dragon's short temper. Just call it inside your head... don't dare say it aloud. He shrugged himself free of Shelby and spun around, slapping the backs of Taion's knees with his powerful tail. Then he was airborne and aiming to kill. Or maim. Maiming is nice. Blood is nicer.
Shelby stood back wordlessly, shocked and disbelieving. He had never seen Mel snap like that.

Well Taion was certainly NOT expecting that! He went down with a loud thud and a scraping of his elbows and hands. He looked up to scowl at the dragon. Well he wasn't the only one with wings. In a second Taion was in the air as well, a frown firmly in place.
The fox, by now, was wide-eyed and cursing as he looked around for something to take cover with. This was not quality time together!

Mel got to his feet and wiped pavement to his face, being the sort of person to fling oneself head-first into trouble without thinking things like, Gee, maybe I should block my face to avoid tasting concrete! Brushing himself off and straightening his glasses, he glared up at the demon who flew above his head and gestured obscenely at him. "Next time keep your comments to yourself if you don't want that tongue of yours wrapped around your head!"
Shelby glared at the worthless good-for-nothing that was Taion's companion. What a coward! He set his jaw and slapped Mel upside the head. "Knock it off already, you made your point! Let's go."
"Aw," Mel rubbed the back of his head, anger subsiding. When Shelby tugged at his arm he didn't put up much of a fight.
