When our country started, there were several different churches - Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, etc. Since government is, was, and always will be, religious (they want to follow God's will, don't they??), the agreement was made that the gov't should not be able to control all the churches, and that they could function undisturbed. There would be no one state flavor of religion, but all would be tolerated.
It didn't mean to tolerate garbage religions.
It wasn't meant to make gov't a godless mess.
Forbidding prayer in schools is absolutely ridiculous.
Allowing atheists to determine the law of the land is like giving the job of lookout to a headless man.

I have no coherent rant. I'm just mad. Michael Savage mad.

As long as their are tests in school their will be prayer in school.

On a more serious note, the phrase seperation of chuch and state isn't even in the constitution. Neither is the word privacy for that matter.

Allowing atheists to make the laws is like giving control of the government to a minority group, which is not something that is done in democracies.... hypocrites.

People say that politicians should 'leave their religions at the door.' More hypocrisy. That's just not how religion works. ANY religion. With the possible exception of the Baha'i religion. Which is a weird pseudo religion for those who believe in God... or rather, a god, and/or gods, but don't like the idea of there only being one true religion. rolleyes

*cough*COMMIES!*cough*

Apparently that religion is gaining popularity among liberals lately.

On a side note, why do people think Michael Savage is conservative? Maybe I'm missing something, but from what I've heard he just seems to hate every group in politics. confused

He's not conservative? surprised
He does hate other conservatives, but he's a right-winger.

Actually, it would be unconstitutional to outlaw prayer in schools. All that they've done is prevented public schools from requiring students to pray. And that's not just atheists deciding this; do you really think there were enough atheists to pass that law?

The main problem is, the gov't officials don't know when "separation from church and state" ends and when "give the power to the atheists" begins. Prayer in schools should be allowed, but forced prayer should not. Wearing an "I love Jesus" shirt to school or work should be allowed, but banning all religious articles of clothing should not.

(At this later date) I have heard that it was not atheists who pushed for the end of prayer in schools but Mormons and Catholics. mad
Can't cite it, because I forgot where I read it. But in the aim of not offending anyone, they offended worse.

Actually, that hasn't happened yet. The only religion I've heard as being outright bashed for supposed "intolerance" is Christianity. Thus, only Christian practices are illegal in schools.

Buddhism, Islam, anything but Christianity can be practiced. But the second you say that Jesus is your Lord and Saviour you're an intolerant hypocrite for some reason.

Oh, and on the subject of Church and State and the WONDERFUL world of Public Education (the other P.E.), has anyone heard of the Historical revisionism movement? Put simply, they want to remove EVERY religious reference in history.

Say this was an article from a history book:
Quote:
As Washington and his men waited out in the fortress for dawn, they prayed to God for victory and safety. The next morning, they went out and won the battle.

It would be changed to this:
Quote:
As Washington and his men waited out in the fortress for dawn, they mustered their courage and awaited the coming battle. The next morning, they went out and won the battle.

Anyone see something wrong with this? THEY'RE SCREWING WITH HISTORY, WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE A SOLID FACT THAT NO ONE CAN CHANGE. Yet they're changing it. God save us all.
