It had been far too long since Brychan had spoken with any of his hinds from the previous Anlach. He'd finally gotten a moment to speak with Telyn and see his two offspring with her, however.. there were still two that he had yet to see. He didn't have long, and he hoped to spot one or both of them before his duties called to him again.
The starry-pelted stag was making his way through the valley where the hinds and their young usually spent the warmer months. He was a bit of an odd sight at this time of the year, several females giving him glances as he passed by. However, he hardly noticed them. He was looking for two particular hinds, ones that should stand out... but among the throng, it was easy to miss just about anybody. Unless you're a towering outrider like he was.

You can label us a consequence, The grass at this time of year was so....
Well, honestly, just like the grass at every other time of the year. Except for winter, and the very first week of spring. Those were extremes, though.
She had been keeping to herself quite a lot as of late. Not surprising - before Brychan, it was what she did best. When the stag returned back to his post, however, she returned to her 'old ways', so to speak. Not that she didn't still see and communicate with Telyn, but...well, that was a touchy subject. Not because of anything that either hind had done, oh no. It was Rhomae's own issue, one she would work through...in time.
Now, she enjoyed the feel of the warm sun on her back as she nibbled at the greenery. The white covering the majority of her pelt kept her cool enough to endure the sun longer than some others, so she took great advantage of the opportunity. Oddly enough, the very thoughts currently filling her head were ones of the stag who had just passed her...something she didn't notice until the glimmer of a starry pelt caught her eye.
She raised her head, but did not move t'wards him as he walked away from her. Hmmm, didn't notice her? Perhaps. Or perhaps he was here on other business. Either way, it would not hurt to approach.
"You are looking well, dear stag. Even though all I can see is the back of you." she said just loud enough for him to hear, a slight humor in her voice. Of how much you have to learn.

Hearing a familiar voice behind him, Brychan seemed slightly startled... while also wondering how he could have possibly missed Rhomae's blindingly white pelt with the black stripes. In his defense though, she was not the only white hind in the FireBringer herd.
The stag quickly turned himself around, his expression a little sheepish. "Ah... there you are, Rhomae" he said lightly, having noticed the humor in her voice. Stepping towards, her greeted Rhomae with a gentle bump of his nose. "I've been looking for you. I trust you're doing well?" His sheepish look soon turning into a genuine smile. He had missed the lot of them, but Anlach would eventually come around again.
The fact that Rhomae had been the only one of his hinds to not give birth this year, hadn't gone unnoticed by Brychan. But it was not something he would hold against her. Sometimes, that's just how nature worked... he could only hope that perhaps next year, she would be more fortunate.

You can label us a consequence, The startled look on his face put a smile on her own, nudging him lightly in return. "Yes, I have been doing well. These months seem favorable for most of the herd. How do you fare? Any great battles or daring rescues as of late?" Mmmm, she had a feeling that he knew how she felt about her own lack of offspring. Odd, since the subject had not even come up...actually, she didn't think that it had ever come up. Was that good, or bad? Well, for now, it was none of her concern. After all, it wasn't really a problem. An inconvenience, yes, but not a problem. She only wished that the reminder of it would leave her mind alone. Jealousy was unbecoming of a hind. Of how much you have to learn.

He knew... after all, if she'd had offspring, he would have known by now. He might be busy, but he wasn't ignorant. His post offered a good view of the herd, and he managed to spot his trio of hinds every now and then. He had also noticed that Islywn was now a Pricket. Having grown his first set of antlers, which were in the form of two tiny spikes. While the two girls had lost their fawn spots.
He was proud of them, but Brychan knew better than to bring up such things infront of Rhomae. He was smarter than that. Unless she managed to bring up the subject herself.
"This season has been a good one" he agreed with a nod of his antlered head, "I'm well enough, although busy." He smirked as she asked if he'd had any battles or adventures as of late, to which he responded to with a shake of his head, "I'm afraid not... its been rather quiet. Unless you count dealing and giving advice to some young and upcoming stags. You know how they are... so very sure of themselves."

You can label us a consequence, "Yes, I know very well." she said, nodding. "Any that seem to be quite promising, like yourself?"
She said that in reference to Brychan's ambition, and she said it in a most positive light. He had high goals, and she was proud of that. To see him giving advice to others was a warming thought, but she knew that when it came right down to it...well, the stag wanted what he wanted. And, she hoped, he wouldn't give up until he got it.
....she should learn from that.
"And how are the other hinds faring, and your children?" Of how much you have to learn.

The stag chuckled, clearly touched that she thought so highly of him. He gave a nod in reply to her question, "I spoke to this one stag who was fresh out of the Corps. Ronno is his name, already has a fine head of antlers, but seems to be a bit ignorant on the ways of the herd. Still, he has a lot of potential."
Ears flicked forward as she also asked about the others, pride showing clearly in his eyes. He was proud of all of them, and glad to share any news about his offspring. Rhomae must be somewhat comfortable with it if she mentioned it herself.
"I haven't seen Loreena and Lyith in some time" he admitted, "But I did speak with Telyn recently. Tempest has lost her fawn spots, and Islwyn has grown his first pair of antlers."

"Ignorance is typically curable. Stupidity, however, typically is not. Thankfully it's just ignorance." Rhomae stated, tossing her head a little.
Rhomae listened keenly as the stag told of the rest of his family. Uncomfortable though she may be, she still listened. After all, how was one ever to get comfortable if one never exposed ones-self to anything? Besides, she could throw on a good face anytime, especially if it would make Brychan happy.
"That's good," she said, nodding. "I suspect that they might have their mother's....traits, but I have never met them."
By traits, she meant that fiery flare that Loreena used to get herself into verbal trouble, or verbal victory. Depended on the situation, really.
And rise above the flame.

Brows lifted quietly at her reply, "So you haven't spoken to Telyn in awhile then. I thought you two had become rather close." They use to chatter all the time during Anlach... he wondered what had changed. Perhaps the fact that Telyn had twins and Rhomae had no offspring of her own. He would like to change that fact, for he didn't want Rhomae to be unhappy.. or atleast he could try, come next Anlach.
"Ah... well perhaps. Islwyn seems to be the troublemaker of the pair, while Tempest seems to be the quiet sort." Might have to watch out for the young doe... after all, the quiet ones could be rather unpredictable.

Pardon me, while I burst... "Mmmm....I suppose it's easier to be close during Anlach. Perhaps it is my fault...I should probably try to fix the situation, but I'm not sure how."
Just hanging out with Telyn after this long? Maybe. Sounds a bit too easy, though.
Rhomae chuckled. "I was sure that one of them would have to be a troublemaker. Ah, well, I bet they are both fine young. She is a fine hind, after all." And rise above the flame.

"What situation? Did something happen?" he asked, wondering what might have happened between the two that would cause such a rift. Unless it really is jealousy over one having offspring and the other not. But then he was just a stupid male and didn't understand females, right? Heh.
Brychan chuckled as well, "Yes I suppose... their mother is quite a bit of a spitfire after all. But yes, she is a fine hind, as are you and Loreena also." He sighed quietly, seeming to realize not all was well with Rhomae despite the front she seemed to put up.

Pardon me, while I burst... "Nothing happened, really. Self induced separation, I suppose?...it's nothing against her, or anything."
Rhomae smiled a little at the compliment, but she had a feeling he was getting close to discovering her deception. Really, truly, she was alright...but she was still bothered by a few things. Things beyond her control. Because of that, there was no point in making someone else - Brychan, in this instance - have to deal with it. She would get over it eventually, right?
Gah. The hind was not used to such things. And rise above the flame.

The stag stepped forward to nuzzle Rhomae affectionately, "Then speak to her. There's no reason for the both of you to alienate yourselves. I want you all to be happy. It makes me happy to know my hinds are happy." Yes.. despite the fact that Anlach was not in session, he still considered them his hinds.. and they were. They would be until they were no longer a part of his harem, Herne forbid.
An impish grin then crossed Brychan's snout, "And come next Anlach, we'll have to try extra hard to get you a fawn or calf of your own." His voice lightly teasing, but he was a lot smarter and more perceptive than he looked.

Pardon me, while I burst... She stiffened a little in response to the nuzzling - mostly because she was not expecting it...but relaxed accordingly in due time, returning the nuzzle. If only it was as simple as he made it sound. Rhomae could not simply show up and act as if nothing had happened. Which...well, ok, nothing had happened, but still. She would need to provide a certain amount of answers. Those would take time to formulate....
Damn her calculating mind.
"I shall try."
She looked a bit stunned at his choice of words. Rhomae looked down, pawing the ground lightly. Oh really now? Well, that was...uhm.....oh, why not. "So you know my current trial, then, hmm?" And rise above the flame.

Brychan's expression softened, and brows raised a bit. "Come now Rhomae... surely you don't take me for a fool." He wasn't offended, but well.. he wasn't blind or stupid. He's been around long enough that he wasn't an empty headed and overconfident young buck anymore.
"Telyn and Loreena both had their own offspring, and you're the one that did not. Its not hard to see that its affected you, and rightly so. But there's no reason to be ashamed or jealous, your time will come." He hoped he sounded reassuring and sympathetic, but he wasn't a hind and so he couldn't relate to her as well as another female might. Still.. he was making an effort.
