OK while surfing 4chan's /a/ I found this thread about the Higurashi dub sucking. Now being curious me I went to the link.

Which is this

The OP of this video says that he found a rapidshare of the voice clips and synced it to the video in the comments. And heres me thinking "How could you trust a filename from a rapidshare???"

So is this a legitimate dub or some fandubbers trying to pass this off as Geneon's official dub?

You're going to have to compare the castlist on Anime News Network and that vid file.

Well if you've heard the voice actors before in other titles and compared them to the youtube's video, then that would turn up some answers I suppose.

It does not seem that bad to me. Anyway you heard about it on 4chan. Thwy are worse then Gaia's anime board when it comes to dubs.

Anyway it's possible the dub is out and one could have ripped the episodes onto the computer by now. However since I don't have the DVD personally I can't tell you honestly.

Of course what I love about DVDs is when there is a chance thjat the dub sucks just watch it in Japanese.

Not really. From what I heard from a Dub vs Sub thread it was,

"/a/: Subs, Me: Dubs"

And that was the majority.

Ok I have a confession everything I know about 4chan is second hand knowledge. So I have never heard a single good thing about them.

Nah, mostly lonely people trying to act badass on the internet. Atleast I've seen more decent discussions on there than on our anime board, probably because most people there don't like Naruto and Bleach.

I'm surprised no one here bought the dub yet, ether for petty reasons or because they like the show. (Me I'm going to do it for both) and state what they think or not.

Also those responces of that clip are torn between people who like it and those who don't. Even the person who posted it does not know if it's good or bad. Really I see that as a good sign.

Edit

I fond a rewview by someone who like us saw this clip before the dub. Review

Anyway here " will admit, like other Higurashi fans, I heard the english dub sound clips someone posted a few weeks ago before the dvd came out, and I wasn’t thrilled. The clips sounded bad at first but I decided to wait until watching the dvds before I passed any kind of judgement, because I knew it was only a few brief lines. I’m now glad I waited because hearing it on dvd wasn’t quite as bad as I had thought and the cast definitely got better after the first episode or two. One thing you have to remember with hearing dubs for the first time is that for those who have listened to the Japanese voices first (this is why if I’m watching an anime for the first time and have the option of watching subs or dub I’ll go with dub first and then if the voices sound really bad I’ll switch back to the Japanese, however Higurashi is obviously different this time because I watched it originally in Japanese first), the english voices will almost always sound abit underwhelming at first because your not used to them and the voice actors are usually a little shaky with getting into the roles, and finding the right voice.'

I think it's one of the best dubs out there. The voice actors do a great job with emotions.

Grant George is able to make Keiichi realistically paranoid, fearing the the world around him is collapsing and everyone is out to get him. He's able to play normal, be scared out of his mind and freaked out, and is believable.

Kelli Kassid does a great job as Mion and Shion. What makes this performance so good is when she voices both. She uses the same voice for the twin sisters but they feel like different characters due to how they act and speak. You almost don't realize it's the same voice due to how much contrast there is in how she portrays them.

Mela Lee steals the show as Rena. It's perfection. She is cute, pure and innocent. She is a person you want to trust, you you want to run up to and hug. It is flawless. Then when she gets creepy she's even better. Her change is believable and sudden. Her voice slightly changes, lower in pitch and sends a chill down your spine. It is one of the best performances I have heard in dubs in a long time. I am scared of Rena as quickly as I fell in love with her.

Now yes Minx Lee as Satoko and Reba West as Rika are no where near as good. Yet their roles have been much smaller so far. I can't really say if they are good or bad yet. This is dealing only with DVD #1 after all.

Still this dub is great. I rank it with Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Full Metal Alchemist, and Ghost in the Show in my top five dubs. Probably number four.

Top five dubs.
1: Full Metal Alchemist
2: Cowboy Bebop
3: Ghost in the Shell
4: When they Cry
5: Trigun.

After viewing only 5 seconds of the Higurashi dub,

I think that English dubbing has something to be really proud of.
