The kitsune looked down at the paper in her hand. It was in the last group of mail that she got in her last place, after that the landlord even locked up her mail box. He was serious about letting her have nothing till she paid back the rent she owed. But it was hard to get a new job when she didn't have a place to live. The note she recived seemed like trash and she almost threw it out till she saw what they were offering. Then Kaindra almost ran in the other direction. The last thing the kitsune needed was someone to take care of. Hell she couldn't take care of herself, or hold down a job, or manage to keep in contact with her family long enough to borrow money from them. Three different landlords had three different sets of furniture that she can't get back till she pays rent (getting new furniture was cheaper) and she needed a place to stay now....
Then Kaindra saw the magic words, free apartment. A place to stay so they could watch over the kid, a place that they wouldn't kick her out of so long she kept the kid fed. Of course she didn't jump straight into it. People might call Kaindra flaky but she really wasn't, she just had a hard time going against her heart, and a child was a big responblity. One that Kaindra didn't want to take unless she could handle it.
Truth be told she wasn't sure she could handle it, even now as she aproched the compund, looking around for a little help, all her worldly goods stuffed into a hiking backpack. All she knew was that she wanted to try. Kaindra hoped that maybe caring for someone else would teach her how to care for herself, or at least now to keep her mouth shut.

Dacian had been keeping an eye on the gate entrance to the compound, for those two potential guardians he had contacted. No guardian had yet turned him down, but it wasn't impossible. He thought they'd been rather lucky, so far.
But then, the way he located potentials helped cut back on the chances of people who would refuse, or not show up at all.
Spotting the potential, he hopped off of the tree stump he had been sitting on (conveniently located near the entrance). This had to be Kaindra..the other potential was male, he thought.
"Kaindra?"

The kitsune tunred twoards the new voice and gave a polite smile, her job application smile. It was warm, friendly, polite, professional and distent. She wrote her nicest clothes, embroidered jeans with matching jacket and a tank top. She had her nice boots on (and only boots really) with her sword straped to her side. The decorated kanata was the only thing she took from her childhood home and the only thing to last though the years. She only carried it around when she feared loosing her apartment to lack of rent payment or when she was between apartments.
"Hi, I'm Kaindra." she held out one slim hand in a shake, "I was sent a flyer." she showed it to him to prove she wasn't just faking it or something, though she didn't know what kind of person would fake to get a kid, even if he did come with a free place. "I'm...uh, interested in...well honestly I'm interested in more information. The flyer sounded interesting and I'd like to help but...I would like to really understand what you want me for."

"Well, information is something we aren't exactly short on, so I think I can fill you in on any details you're unsure of."
This seemed to be starting off on a good foot, Dacian thought; she was polite, and didn't seem suspicious like some guardians had been. He would take her to see the Soul, and perhaps a tour of the compound if she was still interested then...
"Let's start towards the lab, and on the way, I'll answer whatever questions you have."
This mage wasn't all that nice looking, compred to Kaindra; there was a smudge of dirt on his upper left cheek, and his clothing looked as if he'd been working in the gardens for while. Which he had, of course.
He shook her hand, before beginning to lead her towards the labs.

The general dirty appearence of her...host actually relaxed the kitsune, after all she wasn't a fancy creature, not naturally. Her dream job was to give tours though forests or something equally naturey. She enjoyed digging though the dirt and walking though the forests. She just couldn't find out a real way to pay the bills by doing that, not without living on the street.
"Great, because information is what I really need." she explained, "I liked the sound of the flyer, and honestly I'm normally all for help but you know...want to know all the strings before signing over my life's possesions." Kaindra gave a nervous laugh that was so horribly awkward, mostly because she did that once. She always got caught in a prymid scheme and lost her shirt, literatly. Luckily her friend was in a upbeat and she could borrow his second one.
Kaindra needed richer friends...and to shut her mouth shut sometimes. She though as she let out a sigh. Like right before that horrible laugh fell from her lips.

"Aright, well...."
Dacian considered, as they walked, where to start. It was always so difficult when guardians just said they wanted to know everything - there was too much to say! So he just settled on the basic explanation of the Souls.
Then he followed it up with what most people considered the bad part.
"...of course, you'll also have to live on the compound. But we have several buildings set aside, and they're free for guardians..."
((Basically, he would just tell her the story, info about the souls, etc. etc. I'm not gonna rewrite it all, so I'm just saying that he said it ^_^ ))

Kaindra listened closely, wanting to make sure she understood everything the man said. She knew that her question was all encompossing and that was normaly anoying but the letter she recived was a little vauge and she didn't get it. Kaindra never learned well from reading, she was a discussion and auditory learner. If someone spoke it and discussed it with her then she remembered it.
A soul, she thought to herself. An honest to god life in her hands, one she'd have to take care of, support, love. It would mean buckleing down, getting a steady job and stop spending her money on fivrioulous things like that dirt bike she rode over here, or the season tickets for the Gaia sluggers (Kaindra's favorite baseball team). She'd have to think of clothes, and food and education for a life.
But maybe it finally make her grow up. Taking care of herself never did so. Besides, she liked babysitting back during the dark days when she tolerated living with her parents. Kaindra shuddered at the thought. She never regreted that imprompt escape late one early summer night back when she was seventeen. And to the kitsune that was enough proof to know it was the right choice. It wasn't like her parents ever searched for her. She was in the phone book six times but she never got a call. They never looked, she never returned. Both parties had to be happier.
She wouldn't drive the kid to that though. She knew what her parents did wrong. Maybe they were the right level of strict but they never balenced it with love and that was the key to rising a child, letting them know that they were always loved and she would have to do that with this kid, because...well then if even she had to be strick it know that didn't mean she didn't love them.
Kaindra doubted, even today, of her own parents love.
"Well, honestly, the appartment sounds great." the kitsune smiled, chasing away bad memories easily. "I just got kicked out of mine so I'm ready to move in. As for the kid though. Well, could I meet it? Get to know it a little better? Know it's gender? Or name?" she laughed softly, embaressed at how she had to call the kid, it. "I mean, I know it's just an energy or whatever right now but I'd love to see it. Oh, and do I name the kid? Or get to know what it was blended with?"

"That does make it fairly, simple, definitely."
Some guardians were very pleased upon learning of the free apartment - although there had been a few memorable ones who weren't. But that was a thing of the past, and Dacian wasn't going to dwell.
"Oh! Well...we don't really know much about the kid, until it's born - gender, blend...none of it. And name is up to you since you are, after all, it's mother."
Just not genetically.
Dacian led the way into the labs, and then began to travel downwards towards the room where Kaindra's soul was being kept.
"And as for visiting - we're actually on our way to do that now."

"Yeah, it does. Don't worry, I'll take good care of the kid." she swore. She'd make sure of that at least. This was a bit of an experment for her and if the experment went wrong...well then she'd make sure that the kid wasn't effected to badly. Kainda had to believe that she was kind enough to not ruin a kid's life for her own comfort.
Her ears perked up when he went on to explain they knew nothing. That would be a bit of a problem, oh well, she just wouldn't buy anything for the kid till he was born, at least nothing serious gender defying. She would need a bed and some clothes, sheets, food. Kainda bit her bottom lip to stop herself from groan.
She was not getting over her head. She was not getting over her head. She was not getting over her head. Kainda just hoped if she chanted it long enough she'd believe it.
"Yeah, I suppose I am." she said softly, thinking about it. Mother, somehow the term didn't feel right, parent didn't seem right there. Guardian...she liked that term. Parents and mothers were always in charge. The kitsune wasn't great at taking charge all the time. Guardians though, they were in charge but maybe not all the time. Yeah, she'd stick with guardian.
"Ohhh, great. I'd like to see the kid. So...what do you do here?" Kainda asked next, glancing at him, "Are you like...offical guardian greeter? Or is this a shared task?"

"Oh, I am the one who usually greets guardians...sometimes its the others, but I usually take care of it. I also take care of all the landscaping."
And considering some of that 'landscaping' - primarily within the gardens - was transplanted from their own world, it could be a mite bit difficult to deal with at times.
"I also help out Hadrian if he gets overwhelmed...you see, he deals with all the technical aspects."
The paperwork loaded up quite a bit; who would have thought you'd have to fill out so much to create an identity for someone who wasn't technically born as humans are usually?
"And here we are!"
They had reached the lab doors. But then, before opening the door, Dacians strange looking watch began beeping at him; he fixed an odd expression on it, laughed, and explained to Kainda..
"It looks like your child is an early-bird; it's energy has begun fluctuating, which is a sign that it will soon be born."
Finally opening the door, the energy Soul was apparent, floating in the center of the room, and surrounded by a ring of monitors. It appeared fairly normal, but as time went on, it seemed almost as if bits of energy were flying out and back in - and it was gradually picking up pace.

Kainda nodded slightly as she followed along. At the mention of landscaping she looked around. She thought about getting into that once but she didn't have much talent in planing and taking orders in doing was jut another failed job. Kainda shook her head as she focused on the man's words.
The names just went over the kitsune's head, there wasn't much she could do about that, she really had no idea what he was talking about, but she just nodded as he was answering her question.
"The landscape looks nice." that at least she got, that whole thing about paperwork and stuff just kind confuse her. Would she need paperwork? She shook her head and decided to just follow, it was safer to just follow.
When they reached the doors Kainda lifted up her arm to open the door but was stoped by the beep. For a moment she though it was some kind of alarm but aparently it was...her child?
"Wait...I'm getting him now!?" Kainda asked, more than a little surpised as she looked around. She wasn't ready for him now...she needed a job, and to get some stuff for the new apartment, and clothes. She had to buy clothes, and food, and a cook book so she know how to make the food. Feeding kids off snacks and frozen dinners couldn't be right.

Dacian was standing off to the side in the room now, watching the energy, as he spoke with Kainda.
"Well...normally they aren't born this early; they usually don't show up until quite a while after the guardian has first seen it. But this one seems eager, so...yes. You will be getting it today."
Dacian always avoided using gender specific words when talking about the energies - after all, they couldn't be sure what gender someone was until it was born. Even the ones that looked girly, occasionally turned out to be male (and vice-versa).
The energy began to fluctuate more now, the energy streaming out and in. Finally, it seemed almost to explode - the light was intense enough to momentarily blind both of the people watching. When they could finally see again, a toddler was sitting in the center of the room.
((There he is~ he's under your control now ^_^ ))

Kainda blinked as she felt a deep rooted panic set in. She wasn't ready yet. Oh god she wasn't ready yet. The kitsune almost turned to run. She wasn't going to be able to take care of a kid now she didn't even have a job now! How was she going to feed him? But...she couldn't run now, the soul was comming, was going to be born...
Then the kitsune had to cover her eyes for a moment and when her hand fell she knew she couldn't run anymore. The soul, was here....He stood there, a few feet tall with gently taned skin and sharp golden eyes. Not that Kainda was looking at his skin or his eyes right now, or that perfectly rich brown hair that fell around his head in a casually attractive style.
He had wings. Not small decortive things like some Gaians would sport but...complete, absolute...wings. They were longer than his whole body combined and spread, then folded behind him, showing off his easy control. At the side of his head, where most humans had ears he had what appeared to be feathered cat ears. Her eyes traveled down his long green tunic, over the short dramatic cape, (at least he had clothes) to see some dangerous looking claws (talons?) that replaced this little boy's hands. His legs were furried like a lions and one long lion's tail flicked behind him, swishing back and forth.
The soul turned boy took a few steps forward as his eyes scaned the place with one quick, almost agressive look. It would do, he supposed, not exactly what he expected but...
"Who are you?" the toddler demanded of the woman and man standing in front of him. He didn't know anything, not right now at least, couldn't remember anything...really. Like why he was here or who the people were that surrounded him. "What's going on?"
"Ummm. well I'm Kainda, your uh...guardian." Kainda said awkwardly, not sure what else to say as such a young boy stared at her so...intensely.

Dacian blinked down at the little boy, feeling a bit of wonder - this was the least human looking child he'd seen yet. Although Ismet had been rather reptilian, even he hadn't had all the...additions. He just had scales.
"Hello there, little guy..."
Hm...perhaps he shouldn't get too close until the kid was more comfortable; those claws looked pretty sharp.
"I'm Dacian."
The toddler was certainly an early bloomer; born early, and talking early. The toddlers typically could talk when first born - but most were dazed, and didn't speak much for a little while. Some came out of it much quicker though; but they were all still toddlers.
What kind of blend did this kid have? He'd need to do DNA testing, because this boy looked almost like there was more then one.

The gryphon boy looked at the people around him, so different, from each other, and from him. His wings spread and bristled as his hands rose. Not knowing friend from foe he rose his claws and took a step back. A periously empty head combined with some healthy fear made him very aware of his own natural weapons.
"Who are you!? Why are you here!? Why am I here!? Who am I!?" he demanded, taking a step forward and went from defendent to attacker with one simple step, a small growl was in his thrat as his ears went back.
Kainda looked around and took a deep breath as she steped forward, wanting to take care of this now, she didn't know how to be a parent, so she'd just have to do the best she could.
"I told you, I'm Kainda, if you're going to ask a question at least listen to the answer." The kitsune lectured lightly as she took a step forward, "I'm your guardian, I'm going to take care of you, give you...a second chance. You're here because in a past life you didn't have that great of a chance. I don't know who you were and you need to find out who you are." Kainda said quietly as she walked forward.
The gryphon tensed and raised up his claws, but took a step back, his tail swishing in nerves, wings spreading wide. It took Kainda a moment but then she realized he was trying to make himself look bigger, it made Kainda smile. She stoped a few feet before him and bent down to his level.
"I'm here to help you. Help you find out what you need to know, and shape who you become. I'm going to take care of you. I promise you that."
The gryphon lowered his claws a bit as he stared at the kitsune, then around to the other man, then back to the kitsune. His...guardian? What was a guardian? "Do...I have a name?" He asked, looking between the two, both introduced themselves with names but he had...nothing.
"Oh...um...I geuss...uhhhhh." Kainda trailed off as she tried to think of a name before one flashed to mind. "Adair! That was my grandfather's name. He was a strong man." Kainda nodded as she looked over to the boy.
"Adair?" the boy muttered, musing over it, "I geuss that's okay." He shrugged his shoulder and looked down, then up again, "I geuss living with you would be okay." he said quietly as he looked around again. "Why are you here though?" Adair demanded, now glaring at Dacian.
