Welcome to the Hangar, where you can discuss anything related to the starships, whether they be enormous Mon Cal Cruisers, or small TIE Drones. Feel free to ask questions regarding ships, or post spefications for any ship you want.

I always found it wierd how the Sith Fighter and the Sith Infiltrator resembled the TIE series so much. My guess is that Sienar Fleet Systems used the concepts of the Sith starfighters as the basis for the concept of their TIE series. The similarities aren't just in appearance as well, as we all know TIE stands for Twin Ion Engine, though most TIE class ships now dont use just two. The Sith starfighters used what is believed to be a prototype Twin Ion Engine system developed by the Star Forge.

Coinkydink or not?

A medium-duty Imperial capital ship, the Victory-class was the precursor to the Imperial class. It was designed by Walex Blissex and was commissioned into service near the end of the Clone Wars. It was manufactured by Rendili StarDrive, and was built to serve three purposes: planetary defense, planetary assault and ground troop support, and ship-to-ship combat. It can run at speeds up to .45 past lightspeed. The Victory-class measured 900 meters in length, and was manned by 4,798 crewers and 402 gunners. It could transport up to 2,040 troops, and held 8,100 metric tons of cargo. It was equipped with 10 quad turbolaser batteries, 40 double turbolaser batteries, 80 concussion missile tubes, and 10 tractor beam projectors.

A Star Destroyer is a huge, triangular-shaped warship at the forefront of the Imperial Navy, the Star Destroyer was actually first designed and developed during the last years of the Old Republic. There are four main classes of Star Destroyer: the original Victory-class ships, developed by Rendili StarDrive for the Old Republic; their successor, the Imperial-I and Imperial-II class ships, developed by Kuat Drive Yards for the Empire; the huge Executor-class command ships; and the largest class, the Eclipse-class Star Destroyers. Like all capital ships, they were given names based on phrases and adjectives which described their strength and capabilities, such as Devastator and Agonizer. Luke Skywalker believed that Emperor Palpatine chose names which would also serve as a subconscious reminder to their crews that the ships were essentially the methods by which he corrupted people's souls.

When the Imperial-class project first began, there were many budget arguments over whether it would be feasible for the Empire to construct and purchase these expensive warships. Now, we can only wonder why anyone would argue against employing Star Destroyers. They are invaluable in maintaining order and policing a galaxy. A single Star Destroyer is sufficient for subduing most planets, and with its armament, ground assault force, and six squadrons of TIEs, the Star Destroyer has been nearly unchallenged for a long while. It would take more than one MC80 to defeat a single Imperial Star Destroyer. However, recent advances in New Republic technology have yielded starships more pwerful than the Imperial Star Destroyer, and even improved models of the Star Destroyer.

The Imperator-class Star Destroyer (Mark II) is a newer version of the original ISD. It has a faster hyperdrive, upgraded shields, and improved weapons. An example of the Mark II ISD would be the Avenger, as opposed to the original ISD, an example of which is the Devastator. They can easily be distinguished via the appearance of the engines: original ISDs have small triple baffles surrounding the main engines, whereas Mark II ISDs have ring baffles.

These are the more common of the Star Destroyer classes.

The Super-class Star Destroyer used as Darth Vader's flagship, the Executor was the first in a long line of fearsome warships that descended from the Imperial-class Star Destroyer. There are many rumors surrounding the construction of the Executor: Many claim that the ship was built at the shipyards of Fondor, while others contend it was built by an unspecified Kuat Drive Yards facility as reported in the Imperial Defense Daily. However, the true Executor was built at Fondor. The Kuat ship was built under the same name, but was later renamed Lusankya when it was launched. Note that the short story Smal Favors claims Vader took command of the Executor directly from Kuat Drive Yards, which contradicts the Kuat ship's becoming the Lusankya. Equally enigmatic is the Executor's construction period. The only real knowledge is that the ship was turned over to Darth Vader between his escape from the Battle of Yavin and the Battle of Hoth. The plans to the huge ship were stolen by Luke Skywalker and Tanith Shire, but revealed no weaknesses to Alliance technicians. The ship's name was given by Vader on its maiden voyage, as it destroyed the Alliance outpost on Laakteen Depot while en route to Yavin 4. Its first commander was executed by Vader for failing to complete a mission to eradicate the Massassi Base. It was then placed under the command of Admiral Ozzel, during the search for the Alliance leading up to the Battle of Hoth. It was Ozzel who brought the fleet out of hyperspace too far out from Hoth, alerting the Alliance to the fleet's presense. Vader executed Ozzel on the spot, and promoted Captain Piett to Admiral, and commander of the ship. Following a number of victories over the Alliance, the Executor was finally destroyed during the Battle of Endor, when a concerted attack by Alliance pilots disabled the ship. Without steering and navigation, it plowed into the surface of the second Death Star and exploded. (source - Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia)

Executor-class ships were among the largest conventional vessels constructed during the Emperor's reign. These ships serve as mobile headquarters that can coordinate the activities of fleets and armies throughout extensive areas of space. The Executor was only the first of many Executor-class Super Star Destroyers to be created.

There is some debate about the actual length of the Executor. Most records say 8 kilometers, but from visual comparison to the 1.6km Imperial Star Destroyers, the Executor appears over 11 times longer. Therefore, we are led to believe that the Executor was closer to 18km in length.

15000 meters
Weapons
500 Laser Cannons
500 Turbolaser Batteries
75 Ion Cannons
100 Tractor Beam Projectors
5 Gravity-well Projectors
1 Axial Superlaser

These huge, 15-kilometer-long warships were to be the penultimate Imperial weapon, surpassed only by the Eclipse-class Star Destroyer. The Sovereign-class is essentially a scaled-down version of the larger Eclipse-class. It has fewer weapons, a slower hyperdrive, and carries a smaller complement of starfighters and crewers. Designed to instill fear, the Sovereign-class ships were equipped with an axial superlaser designed to destroy planets in much the same way the Death Star's laser would. Manned by 601,670 crewers and 4,075 gunners, the Sovereign-class also boasted 500 heavy turbolaser cannons, 500 turbolaser batteries, 75 ion cannons, 100 tractor beam projectors, and 5 gravity well projectors.

Only four Sovereign-class Star Destroyers were built: the Sovereign, Autarch, Heresiarch, and Despot. They all were captured or destroyed by the New Republic within a year.

Designed alongside the Executor-class, but much more massive and powerful, there were only two Eclipse-class Star Destroyers ever produced, the Eclipse and Eclipse II. Both served the Emperor during his reincarnation, and both were destroyed with the Emperor. No more have been constructed.

The first Eclipse-class Star Destroyer, the Eclipse was used as the flagship for the reborn Emperor Palpatine. It was destroyed when the Force storm Palpatine sent to destroy Luke Skywalker turned on Palaptine himself. The storm consumed Palpatine and eradicated the Eclipse.

The Eclipse II was built by the second reincarnation of Emperor Palpatine, following the loss of his first ship, the Eclipse. Palpatine took the Eclipse II to Onderon, in an attempt to obtain the body of Anakin Solo for clones. A New Republic assault team, led by Chewbacca and Kam Solusar, infiltrated the ship and reprogrammed its navigation systems. They fled the ship as it jumped into hyperspace, bound for Byss. When it emerged from hyperspace, the Eclipse II crashed into the new Galaxy Gun, which began to fires its projectiles in its death throes. One projectile was launched successfully, and it ploughed into the planet Byss, destroying it and all of the Imperial ships in orbit around it, including the Eclipse II. The New Republic assault team barely escaped.
