I don't think he has any particular obsession with her. I think she touched the lives of people around her and nothing more. I've seen both the musical and the play. I just don't see what you're talking about. I remember he sings about her in "What you Own" and but I don't think there's anything more than just him missing her and admiring her. She endears herself to everyone in that way. Can you maybe give some more examples of when you think he's obsessing over her?

A major part of RENT is Mark's documentry. But then Angel dies and he realizes that he didn't see the ending and neither will Mimi if he doesn't finish fast enough.

I wouldn't call it an obsession perse. It just seemed like a friendship of sorts.

I've always been sort of wondering why Mark develops a sudden fascination with Angel, myself. I have a wierd sort of theory that I worked into a re-interpretation of the song "Contact."

You can read it here if you want.

It seems to me like you've just been told why and I agree with everyone else. There is no particular reason.

Another example might be in "Halloween," where he asked why Collins "chose that phonebooth back where Angel set up his drums"?? Actually, I think I'm wrong-- Mark was just thinking about how all these things happened that brought the main characters together...???

Mark's eyes were opened to what Angel had taught them. That's why he said that he heard Angel's voice in his ear in "What You Own"

Collins: Angel helped us believe in love, I can't believe you dissagree.

Angel taught them alot about love and life in general, I think, which is what Mark was kind of making his documentary about. Also, Angel seems to always have a big influence on everyones lives.

yes, it's just him singing about how they all met, but the line in there that makes me laugh is "why did maureen's equipment break down?" because all the other lines are about couples. He and maureen are still kind of together in his head.

Well, when Roger says that Mark is numb and detached, he's hitting the nail right on the head. But Angel brings a light to Mark's life that draws him closer to his friends. Angel's way of life is like a polar opposite to Mark's, and Mark wants to try to live more like that, which is why he's so inspired by her.

What I think it is, is that he realizes that Roger has HIV, Mimi was dying, and Maureen and Joanne split up is when he notices it'll be the end, and he'll be the only one left alone.
That's pretty much what I got out of it.
Nothing special, though. :3
