N'tren made his way down to the kitchens, flit in arms. This type of weather made him sleepy and lazy; since no duties had been assigned to him, the young rider felt even more tired. His eyes searched for any familiar faces as he climbed down the stairs and entered the main kitchen hall. He had heard that some of the low lying caverns and rooms had been blocked off to stop minor flooding from the rains.

At least, in this weather, Thread drowned before it had any chance to do damage. But if it kept up, crops would be ruined and so would the tithes. Oddly enough, N'tren wondered how much Rias had stored up for just such an emergency.

Not that it was an emergency yet, it was just some rain.

Sitting down at his favorite table near the actual cooking area, he wondered who was working and if he would be able to get some of the better pieces of roast and other treats. A drudge came over and offered klah which he gladly accepted. Anything to put the warmth back in his bones. Splotch perked up slightly when the drudge came over but merped in sorrow as no food was set before him.

Calling back to the drudge, N'tren hoped he was heard over the talk of the other riders and folk, "A plate of roast and some fresh fruits please!"

Gem flew in to the kitchen, water droplets flying out in all directions as the soaked Flit made her way to the hearth to dry and warm up. Shaking a bit, to dislodge more water, she sat neatly by the fire, trilling to N'tren, but not to Splotch.

Flowing the wet flit, came an absolutely drenched Caleten. Her hair was slick against her head, glued to the back of her neck and fanning her tunic. Her bangs sticking to her cheeks, being pushed out of the way and sticking to where it was pushed as it the dark strains were painted there. Her cloths stuck to every curve of her body, even showing the impression of her belly button. Looking to N'tren she comments, "This is only he second time I have ever so badly misjudged the sky." Granted, rain was much better to misjudge the rain the thread. Her light leather pants made running better, and the stout boots more comfortable.

She plucked at the short sleeves of her once light blue tunic, now looking dull because her skin color was easily visible now that it was soaked. It would have been smarter to go and change but she ordered klah first, she'd need something warm in her before dealing with her cloths. Really, she had taken wrong turn, following her flit rather then her senses.

M'haal wished that he was out helping the Herdmaster, even in such bad weather. Cursed rotation of chores! Even the smell of wet runner and herdbeast was better than working in the kitchens. His slow, deliberate manner often got him mistaken as the dumbest drudge in the place whereas outside, his decisive calm actions were a merit with the spooked and wary. Besides, the beasts were animals and M'haal had always been fond of animals even before he Impressed Tora-

You better not be thinking of me as just an animal, dear one.
The bronze hatchling cut into his thoughts.

Of course not Toranth. Beasts are much more beautiful and intelligent than you.
He teased, taking a pot of klah and a tray of cups about where it was needed. The silly happy smile on his face and slow movements made a few sigh impatiently at what appeared to be a dim-glow. M'haal didn't care. How could they know the joy of having their own dragon partner?

You're lucky I love you, M'haal.

Oh yes, I thank my lucky stars...

Caleten was starting to dry, and Gem was doing the same as she kept moving to stay near the fire but out of danger. Once or twice she would squawk if someone came close to doing something she didn't like.

For her part, Caleten stood away from the activates, much as if nothing had changed. What did show change was there was a smile, not cold, pride and aloofness. Though, she continued to hold her head up high as she watched everyone around her. One particularly dim glowing lad caught her attention, it wasn't hard to see he wasn't a drudge, but dim glow or not was not so easy to discover. Remaining where she was, she watched, getting ready to leave to change. This was as good a place as any to stay while it rains.

N'tren looked up as Caleten walked through the doors and he gave her a smile. The fires were roaring and burning bright so as to chase away the dreary coldness of the rains. Waving for another mug of klah, he scooted away from the hearths so Caleten could get a warm seat.

"I wonder when we will be sent out to check on the low lying holds. Hopefully the rains will let up soon..." N'tren commented.

A movement on his side caught N'tren's attention. He noticed the boy working the kitchens and recognized him from the Hatching. If only he could remember...

M'haal, rider of Toranth.

Thank you, beloved. I am sure I will pick up the knack soon. N'tren responded, a soft look matching M'haal's on his own face. It really was being complete.

"Greetings, M'haal. How does Toranth fare?" N'tren asked when the weyrling moved closer to them.

Without much thought, he fullfilled his task of serving klah. But Toranth's name, rather than his own, snapped M'haal out of his reverie. In truth he was still a bit unused to the shortened version of Mishaal. He bobbed his head politely in respect to the pair and his eyes seemed to light up at being recognised as a rider.

"He fares very well, thankyou sir, with a healthy appetite fit to match any clutching queen." The hint of pride in his voice couldn't be helped.

"Would you and the lady like some meat for your flits? Or has it been called for?"

Caleten heard N'tren's comment, but not really thinking it was directed to her, she didn't respond. All she did was walk over to take a seat by him, the warmth of the fire feeling nice against her chilled, damp skin.

She didn't miss the look on N'tren's face, and recognized it as being one she had seen on many rider's faces. She wondered if she'd ever know what that was like, she was getting too old and that idea was getting farther away. Maybe not, but she'd be able to work with dragons for the rest of her life, that she was sure of. It would be enough, there was no other choice.

Looking to M'haal as N'tren called him, she listened to his response, the pride not hard to pick up from someone who used it so herself. With the question about food for flits, she answered for herself, "My flit has already eaten but thanks." There was no way she'd ever let someone else answer for her, even more so a guy, N'tren making no exception.

Gem took off, trilling before landing next to Caleten's arm, warming herself by the fire as well as getting lots of nice scratchs.

N'tren blushed as M'haal called him sir and spoke of Caleten being his lady. He wondered who was the older of the two, not that it mattered, and sorta waved his arm.

"No need to call me sir. For I am just barely past my voice breaking. My name is N'tren and I am Datiath's rider." N'tren looked up as Splotch appeared overhead and immediately went to wooing Gem. He wondered how his little one was faring in that battle.

"I could use a bowl of stew and some meat for my flit. Thank you." Splotch settled onto the table and chirped his thanks as well.

In retrospect, she should have said something about the lady comment, at first she didn't even connect it. Right now, she sorta saw it but chose not to comment.

Trying her hand at small talk, she ask, "Is it just Gem that doesn't seem to like the rain or do other flits and dragons dislike it as well?" She turned her attention then to her flit, from whom she got the image of being wet and shaking it off, undoubtly to get Splotch wet. In reaction, she reached out to pet Splotch, if Gem wouldn't be nice, then at least she would be.

Gem turned her head away from Splotch, her little wedge shaped head facing the fire that refelcted blazingly in her facited eyes. She chirped a few lines, but was not playing easy to get at all.

The weather was beginning to bother everyone it seemed and X'lias wasn't the exception. The young rider had managed to get a complete drenching when the skies opened up on him and Gurath. They had been out with a message to the Rias Hold and upon their return had gotten a complete and utter drenching. It wasn't the most welcomed of feeling wearing riding gear that was soaked through so upon returning to the Weyr, the brownrider had opted for a bath before heading down to the kitchens for a nice warm cup of Klah.

Are you almost dry now? X'lias questioned Gurath who was curled in the weyr.

Yes and warm again.

Good. I can't have you being miserable now can I? X'lias jest as he entered the kitchens to find a rather large grouping of riders.

"Wow, seems I am not the only one who wanted some Klah." X'lias grinned. The Sr. Weyrling had been one of the few unable to advance to full rider due to his age. It hadn't really bothered the young brownrider but it was rather odd walking around and seeing his friends now with full rider knots.

"Nope. It is a dragon and flit thing all around. If they get too cold or wet, I heard they can get a cough." N'tren took a deep breath and inhaled the scent of the klah. Green eyes crinkled at Splotch and Gem's antics. How long had those two been going at it?

Splotch chirped at Gem and flapped his wings a little bit. Over time, he had bought her all sorts of items and shinies to win her back.

"Do you happen to have a dragonman piece? Splotch took it to give to Gem I believe."

A voice from behind and another familiar face entered. It was X'lias, Gurath's rider. That one he knew because neither of them were in a wing yet... Soon, he would be but X'lias had a few turns to go. "Something has to be done to chase away the cold."

Caleten looked to the person who came in, she didn't recognize him, but that was nothing new. She observed the young man, assuming he was a dragon rider, besides herself, anyone that didn't look like a drudge was probably a rider. The talk of Klah, she smiled and added in her 1/2 mark "Besides the sands, I don't think there are very many places in the weyr as warm as this. Where better to go?" That reminded her, she wanted to actually see the sands, find out for her self how hot they were. It wasn't as if she held too much hope she'd be standing on them when they were occupied.

Looking to Splotch, she finally decided to coach an end to this trouble between the flits. When she became a knowledge of relationships was beyond her, but she was sure on how to fix this. From where she was petting the little bronze, she gently nudged him forward, encouraging him to approach the miffed gold.

Looking up from her efforts, she looked to N'tren and replied, "Thats handy to know, I guess I hadn't gotten that far in my studies yet." Just meant she'd give up a night or two to learn more. After all, this sounds like something she might have accidentally skipped over earlier.

Thinking of the many things Splotch brought, she replied, "I might, then again I am not familiar with dragonman, but everything Splotch gave her, she kept. Once she is warm and dry enough, I can send her after it." It had been amusing at first, adorable to see how hard poor little Splotch was trying to win his lady's heart back. Though now she was thinking it was lasting too long, and some of the owners of said pieces might not be so happy that they were stolen. Thief was a title she had earned in the past, but that as behind her and the title would stay there, too.

Sania wandered toward the kitchens a little lost. She had just recently come to the weyr and wasn't used to it yet. Sanni started thinking about the weather as she walked in.I would love to be outside right now, but with the weather like this, I should be indoors. I hope all of the animals are alright out there." She was a little shy toward these people she didn't know, but she finally asked.

"Does anyone want any help in here?"
PostPosted: Tue Jun 26, 2007 5:29 am

Caleten looked up when some one spoke asking if anyone needed help. She looked around the kitchens, every thing seemed in order. Finally she to the girl whom normally she'd ignore, but then she would have coldly ignored everyone less then a turn ago.

With a soft sigh she stepped up and addressed the girl, "It doesn't look like it, but if your looking for a place to be, your welcome to join us." That took some work, but she wasn't always such an ice queen, there was a time way back when that she was friendly.

M'haal had just shrugged, smiled, and gone back to his duties for a moment as one of the senior kitchen staff called over an order for him to turn some of the roasting spits. As soon as he had a second, he brought over what things had been asked for and, snagging himself some klah, sat down on the edge of things.

((Sorry, exams and all kept me away for a bit ^^; ))
