I grew up watching Unico In the Island of Magic and Warriors of the Wind (the badly dubbed version of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.) Most likely one of those was my first anime.
Toonami allowed for the watching of Voltron, DBZ, Sailor Moon, Outlaw Star, and Tenchi... downloading started... but I think Evangelion is what started that craze.
Evangelion was what started my DVD collection.

Umm...what really paved the way was GIGANTOR
...then from there it was Voltron, Sailor Moon, Robotech/Macross...Samurai Pizza Cats...@_@;; Oohhh soo many... And I just called them cartoons back then.

I actually saw part of Vampire Hunter D one time when I was little. The first anime I got really into was Sailor Moon.
