 These are the rules of the Fantasy Café thread so follow them please.
No Bumping, we don't need it so don't do it.
No spamming, seriously what do you plan to achieve with this?
Keep it clean, please keep the humor and chat clean we are not all over 18 in here.
Keep to the Gaia TOS, simple as don't keep to it then you get booted.
Ask if you don't know something, if you want help then please do ask.
Don't insult anyone, don't do it what is the point?
We are all entitled to our own opinions.
Keep to the rules of the sub-forum. Please also talk about fantasy but not
to the extent of Science-fiction. No spaceships/star cruisers, laser guns etc.
This thread is for casual fantasy discussions.
Anything that goes in-depth is to be posted in relevant threads.

Reminder...
This is a sticky, and the thread itself serves a similar purpose to that of the Tavern. It is just a thread and not a sub-forum, but there needs to be a place for random fantasy talk. It's easier than having two subforums for it.

Well, since Mel is probably away already, I can be of assistance if anyone needs it.
I was wondering... I imagine that we can ask questions like: In a fantasy world, it is not necessary to always include fantastic creatures, right? And if you only include a few, you have to make up some sort of food chain for them, right?

I would say that no, a fantasy world doesn't necessarily *have* to have fantastical creatures in it. But if it does, it's a good thing to know what they eat and how they live--it makes it easier to work them into your stories, when you know their background. smile

Yeah, yer right about that.
What do you think about this:
In one of my worlds, there's this "circle of life" if you will (he-he):
Dragons feed on Firebirds
Fire Birds feed on Fireflies
Fireflies feed on Flame lilies and other kind of insects
Flame lilies feed on the droppings of Dragons.
Firebirds are a special kind of bird in my story that, kind of looks like a mix between a phoenix and a pokémon called Ho-oh!
They have a special digestive system and dragons get most of their fire breathing properties from eating these birds.
Fireflies are also very different as they sort of look like our fireflies, only bigger and tend to travel in swarms, like locusts. The main difference is that they eat very little amounts of flame lilies and tend to eat more insects than anything else.

I think that's pretty interesting. Especially the fact that it explains why the dragons are breathing fire.

Thanx! Of course that the dragons in my story also have to swallow a few minerals found on the caves where they nest as well.
I'm glad the post options are back btw. 3nodding
I also have another story where most fantastic aminals and races are extinct. One of the few existing ones there are Elves & Centaurs.

If you're talking about HOW dragons would breathe fire with regards to their diet, that wouldn't work.

Biologically, it'd have to be a combination of certain chemicals/compounds etc in their food, and a lot of it would come from rocks. Their digestive systems would have to be specialised, and when certain substances combine, they can produce fire. So it'd be a combination of substances in some rocks perhaps and a chemical inside their bodies for it to work properly. Check the Dragons thread.
