Bibliocide?

I just wonder, because this chick I know through a friend has had a collection of my graphic novels for over six months, and it doesn't seem like she plans to return them.

I've lost only a couple other books by lending them to friends (literally, two books. I remember their titles and everything). Does this happen to you? Has it ever ruined a friendship?
I lent the aforementioned graphic novels to a friend whom I'd known for a few months. She then moved back to her home state (overnight - I had no chance to get my books back). After nagging her about them for a few months, she said she'd left them with her roommate. I contacted the roommate, who didn't respond until several other people spoke to her on my behalf. Now she says she'll send them to me. I don't believe her. And I don't think I'll ever want to talk to the first girl again. surprised

I mean, if you can't respect my books, you can't respect me, right?

usually nether a borrower nor lender be, but everyso often I will lend out one of my books
but let me tell you something, it truly brings out the worst of me

I'm usually not that bad if you set up a schedule (like planing to return it in a week or something) but once that date comes around, I will be on your case unless you have an excuse or we agree to new terms
and I mean daily... each and every time I see you it will be mentioned... sweatdrop

the last time I loaned out a book my freind opted to just buy a copy for himself and return my copy instead <.<

I've had bad experiences loaning out books too. I loaned a friend my favorite copy of Stephen King's Pet Sematary (because the cover just had an awesome design) and when it was finally returned the pages were shredded and the pages were smudged and bent in other places too. Not to mention a tattered cover.

I loaned out another book, a biography on my favorite teen idol at the time, and it was stolen and returned in a destroyed state.

I'm more selective about who I loan my books to now. Not just books, but also movies and games. I loaned out a DVD where the box was accidently stepped on and cracked. The friend who borrowed it offered to replace it, but I declined because it was an accident and I had another DVD case that I could trade it for at home.

If someone has had my items for a long time I will usually nag them to return said items until they do if they've had it for an unreasonable amount of time.

I have only ever lost two books after lending them to someone. Both were manga and both were lent to the same friend. The first one she claimed was hers and when I got it back she had colored in the pictures. The second she lost and got pissed every time I mentioned it.

Each time when I asked her to either replace the book or give me the money so I could buy a new copy she said, and I quote "No! It's your fault for lending me the book in the first place! I'm not giving you anything!" Needless to say I am lending her none of my books ever again.

I've only ever lent one book to someone ever and I got it back in an alright condition and everything. It was amazing. I was really surprised because I've seen what the girl does to her own books.

I only lend books out to specific people, and those are just people that I trust will give them back. I used to be nice and lend things out all the time, but I've had a few bad experiences.

However, one of my friends still has some of my books, and summer is rapidly approaching...she gave back the ones she finished reading, but not the rest of them. I trust that she'll get them back to me, but still...

I definitely don't lend other things out to people anymore, though. Once, I lent one of my favorite gameboy games (Lunar Legend) out to a friend, and she'd bring it to school and play it sometimes, but when I asked for it back she said she lost it. I never asked her to pay for it, but she never offered, either, and so it was lost for good...And then there was another time where I lent out Lunar: Silver Star Story to a friend, along with my spare memory card, and her siblings ended up storing all sorts of data on the card, so she couldn't give it back. She said she'd give me money to buy a replacement, but I don't think she ever did, either.

My friends & I have a bit of a policy, "Return the book in good condition, or suffer the consequences. If you know someone who is collecting a series & you see the next one in said series. Please buy that book & give to said collector, or at least tell them that it's out." I think it's a very good policy in my opinion.

I always lend my Fruits Basket manga to my friend when I get the new one, because he's too lazy to get it himself...Usually it comes back okay, but I learned the hard ways that he always dog-ears the pages. Which, I must say, I hate very much.

But generally, it's been going pretty good for me...Although I DO remember once lending one of my books to my teacher, and she never gave it back until the last day of school...o____o

User Image"I think I'm drowning, asphyxiated . I want to break the spell that you've created . . .

Well, I haven't loaned many books. Most of my books aren't that interesting. (They're not the type of books that are read by my age group.)
(I guess I'm more of a borrow-from-the-library sort of person.)
I do, however, have a couple, although I've only lent one, and that was to my cousin.
It was returned in good condition, and since my cousin reads as avidly as I do, I got it back pretty quickly.
Unfortunately, I discovered that she dog-ears the pages.
I'm beginning to think I'm slightly OCD, if that's possible (the slightly part), so it bothered me SO much to discover those certain pages.
I don't think I really like lending out books, anyway.

However, my slate isn't so clean, either.
I borrowed a book from my cousin (the same from above), and I take care of the property.
Unfortunately, that weekend that I borrowed it, I also spent the night at a friend's house. I think it must have fallen out of my bag somewhere, but she said that she couldn't find it.
I was so disappointed. I hadn't even gotten a chance to read any of it.
D:
And it was such a satisfyingly thick one, too.
(If you were curious, it was The Seventh Tower, with series compiled into one book.)
Well, anyway, the book was lost. However, I did pay my cousin the twenty dollars that the book had cost.
Although I gave it to her as her birthday present. ><

. . . You're something beautiful, a contradiction. I want to play the game. I want the friction."User Image

I recently reorganized my bookcases, and went through some closets. There I found a book I had borrowed from my best friend of 4th grade on mysteries, and a drawing book I had borrowed from my best friend of 5th grade. And I had always prided myself on bringing back whatever I borrowed, if not exactly on time, not 9 years later.

Other than that, I remember lending out a book by a favorite author and the person moving away, but I didn't mind that. And I got around my OCD to not caring if books come back a little tattered, because it means they were actually read as opposed to just having went on a nice vacation.

I know I've lent out a few manga and never gotten them back because I don't remember who exactly I let borrow. Once I got one back with part of the back cover ripped off, they had forgotten it in a classroom and came ack to find it destroyed.

Well, I have to say that I did borrow a friend of mine's book once, and after a very long time, I haven't returned it, and I feel really bad. I want to return it, but I never see her, but now that I have my license I think I'll go drive it over.

My really really good friends and I trade books, but we know that if we ruin another person's book, we are basically dead meat. Plus, it would disrupt the circle of books.

well, murder in books can be several different genres.... such as horror, suspence, action, adventure, detective, or even sci-fi.... you might want to tone down your topic and give a better explantion.....
