I hope that I'm putting this topic in the right place.

Anyways, I loved O Brother, Where Art Thou. If you haven't seen it, the filmmakers adapted the Odyssey to modern times and set the movie in early 1900's American South. The adaption wasn't exact and left out some basic points, but it was still the hero's journey and many of the same obstacles. The movie is light and humorous without being trite^^

So, I was thinking. Could someone do that with other stories? Maybe the Aeneid or the Ramayana? The setting doesn't necessarily have to be the South, and it doesn't have to have the same mystical aspects.

Any thoughts?
