Talk about your favorite Naruto characters! Don't bash or flame here. Be literate, and don't curse much. ^^ Have fun.

Well, I have a tie for my favorite character... The tie is currently between Sasuke and Naruto (as hard to believe as that is, since I've been pretty busy obsessing over Suigetsu recently. ^^;

My second favorite character is a tie between Itachi and Suigetsu. xD What can I say? I just love Itachi to pieces--I have ever since I saw the three episodes of the anime about Sasuke's childhood. As for Suigetsu... well, he made an extremely good impression on me, what after standing behind Sasuke butt naked for so many minutes. LOL He's just plain loveable.

My third favorite character is, believe it or not, Sakura. She used to be my second least favorite character (under Orochimaru, who has also gone up in my books recently). I think that she's definitely come a long way from the way that she was in the beginning of the series, and she's really matured. That makes me like her. I think that she's the one character that's made the most personality and strength progress in the series. She's remarkable. :3

Everyone else kind of moves up and down on my lists depending on my mood. ^^;

Lee, Sakura and Hinata are my OT3 three favorite characters. I love the ladies' characters and development and drive, and, come on, it's Lee.

So many Sakura and Hinata fans are against each other for stupid reasons, though, when they should be uniting against the irrational bashing; and can you believe that there are people that hate Lee? I mean, not even dislike-- hate! My mind boggles... he's adorable! A lot of his fans are insane, though, and the Sakura and Hinata fans have just about the worst reputations! Well, unless youre going to drag pairing wars into it. No, wait-- especially if you drag pairing wars into it. They can't win! gonk

I so agree! xD First of all, Lee is absolutely adorable!

As for Sakura and Hinata, well, I already said that I'm a big fan of Sakura. She's right after Itachi and Suigetsu on my lists, which, for her, is pretty high up. Hinata... well, personally I'm not a huge fan of hers. Nothing against her fans or anything. It's just that we share a trait that kind of pisses me off a lot. >> Our timidity. She's a great character but she's never inspired me at all because of it.

But anyway, I think that their fans going against each other is just plain ridiculous. >>

What boggles me at the moment is Sasuke bashers. Obviously, I'm a Sasuke freak (and a Naruto freak). I have been and I always will be. As far as I go, everything that Sasuke has done, is doing, and will choose to do in the future of the story will be things that I'll support him on. When everyone else was jeering about him for leaving Konoha, I was actually cheering him on [and hoping, at the time, that he would do away with Oro-ecchi... now I miss the snake a lot. *sniff*]. When I say that I like Sasuke, I'm not kidding.

What gets me is that now all of a sudden I'm seeing previous Sasuke bashers suddenly saying "Oh, I like Sasuke now. He's so cool!" ...But... it's not like he's a completely different person. Sure, he's changed. So has everyone else in the story. Is it just because he's locked away his emotions and made himself apathetic? Is that why people are suddenly converting and saying that they like Sasuke?

I'm not saying that it's a bad thing that people suddenly like him, but... it really seems kind of silly to me. Especially when you meet the people who were fans of Sasuke at first, thought he was a complete b*****d when he left Konoha, and now are fans of his again.

I guess what intrigues me is the question that's floating around in my mind. If your devotion to the character is so flimsy... can you really call yourself a true fan?

Ehh... I don't know. That is the thought that haunts me, I guess. ^^

Her timidity is actually what drew me to her character. I usually lean more towards louder characters for some reason, but Hinata is, as another fan once put it, a "doormat who grew a spine." She seems like such a total wallflower type-- and really she is. But she decided to enter the Exams to improve herself. It's not a surface goal either; fear of confrontation seems to have been burned into her brain from a very young age. Hinata isn't trying to get over a lack of skill, but a flaw that's part of her very nature. When she offered Naruto that ointment, and when she stood and fought against Neji even after Kiba's warnings, Neji's offer to let her back out quietly, the repeated damage to her insides, it proved that, no matter how minimally, she has managed that change. Not that Kishimoto-sensei handled it very well past that xp

There are things she's done that I disapprove of, of course-- watching Naruto from the shadows for so long, offering to let him cheat off her, getting overwhelmed at the sight of him post-skip-- but I find that I've become overall attached to her. Besides, where would my Lee/Saku/Hina OT3 be without her? xd

Heh, not much room to comment because I've never much liked Sasuke. I've never bashed him, mind you, but I'm something of a negative-leaning neutral. I do sympathize with you as far as the "oh, he's cool now" arguments go, however; there are a lot of so-called Sakura fans that have that sort of attitude. I have to say that Sasuke only became interesting to me when he gave in to Orochimaru's seductive wiles offer of power, even if I didn't like him, but that interest stemmed from his character and development as a whole, not just his new attitude.

I'm always wondering the same thing, grant you more about Sakura fans. Everywhere I look I see "the new Sakura" or "post-skip Sakura" or "pre-skip Sakura" or what have you, and there's very little acknowledgment that it's the exact same character. It kind of reminds me of people who only back sports teams during winning seasons, and then try to eliminate all evidence of support when the team loses a game.

Or, more pertinently, it reminds me of fangirls some people who turned up their noses at Sasori until his outer shell was broken away. Then he was suddenly the best thing since sliced bread rolleyes

Fandom, please hear me-- be impressed with certain aspects of a character if that's all you can do, but don't think liking the product and sneering at the factors makes you a fan burning_eyes

I don't hate any Naruto characters, because I like them all biggrin

But here are some of my favorites:

Sasuke--My absolute favorite character. I really like his personal background, along with his character development in the story. In my opinion, he's one of the most interesting characters that I've ever seen/read of. heart

A lot of people hate Sasuke, and I guess that's kind of understandable in a way. What really pisses me off is, you know... some people hate Sasuke with every fiber of their being, calling him "gay emo traitor" and what not. But those people are also super-obsessive Itachi fangirls, despite the fact that Itachi have done something even worse than what Sasuke did.
Don't get me wrong though. I like Itachi a lot too. It's just that...some fans could be so unreasonable at times. sweatdrop

Sakura--Sakura is my favorite female character in Naruto. I liked her a lot before timeskip. Her personality is just too awesome. She might be weak at first, but let's not forget that it's all a setup, a plot device, by Kishimoto-master, to show character development later on. You can see that she got waay stronger after timeskip. Yay for 1337 boulder-crushing skillz XD

Sakura is also the most bashed character in Naruto. Some people hate her because she's blahblahblah weak blahblahblah useless blah blah annoying blahblahblah fangirl blahblahblah. Many people hate her just because she's a girl. Some hate her because she get in the way of OMGSasuNaru( which I'm perfectly okay with, but some of it's fans are just plain rude. ) I hate those bashers with a burning-exploding-blender-toaster-rabid-kitten-throwing-passion scream

But that's why I joined this guild! To get away from bashers. heart

Sai--I ADORE Sai. I like his backstory too, and the concept of ROOT in general. Besides, he was so cute in chapter 311. whee

Hinata--Do I even need a reason? She's just waaay too kyoot for me not to like whee

Some other of my favorite characters are Naruto, Neji, Lee, and possibly Gaara. ( There's many more, I'm just to lazy to list sweatdrop )

You've hit the nail on the head. If I've learned one thing from the internet, it's that female characters can never win in fandom. They just can't sad

...especially if she gets in the way of potential yaoi.

It goes like this:
[girl] gets in the way of [OMGBISHIE] x [OMGBISHIE], [girl] gets bashed.

examples:
Sakura gets in the way of Sasuke x Naruto. Sakura gets bashed.
Misa (DN) gets in the way of Light x L. Misa gets bashed.
Winry (FMA) gets in the way of Ed x Roy. Winry gets bashed
And many more cases like this that I just don't want to list....>>;

Ooh, this was fun to type up. ^^ I was honestly afraid that it would be longer, but oh well, you get what you get while you can get it, eh?

@Princess Dustbunny (would you mind if I made up a nickname for you?):

^^ You know, I've gained a huge amount of respect for Hinata's character as time goes on (especially with being VC in the NejiHina Guild). I was never, ever a Hinata-hater; don't get me wrong, of course. She was just... never up in my top 5 favorite characters. If anything, for quite a while, she was my third favorite female in the series (behind Temari and Tenten, who have sense fallen down on my lists a little to make way for Ino and Sakura). I really do like her humble nature and the fact that she's more observant than talkative. Yeah, her social skills sometimes rattle my nerves, and no, she's not my favorite female in the series (Sakura is, followed by Ino, actually), but she's grown and I respect that. It's never necessarily been just the fact that she's timid, but the fact that she's timid around Naruto, which I suppose I can also understand as being a girl who's had more than her fair share of crushes. It also just has to do with what you said, the fact that she's been watching him for so long and admiring him... and yet she has such a hard time putting it into words, you know? That's really the part that's always gotten to me about her. That and my dorky cousin constantly annoying me about NaruHina and how it's so much better than my OTP. xD

Haha! I could go on forever about Sasuke, but I guess that it's probably not the most appropriate. Especially as seeing how you've never bashed him or anything. But girl, you're speaking my language. xD OroSasu pwnage. -is shot-

lol Anyway, yeah, I suppose that I can understand how you'd find him more interesting at that point.

Like I said, I've liked him from the beginning and I'll continue to like him no matter what. That's a pretty solid fact for me at this moment.

As for Sakura... well, I was honestly a Sakura-basher, Sakura-hater, all-out-anti-Sakura... person. Yeah. Anyway, before I ever had a shred of liking for her, I always at least admitted, if only to myself, that she was a character that improved with time. What converted me to begin liking her was actually the NaruSasu manifesto, Thicker Than Blood. Odd huh? A lot of SasuNaruSasu fans are anti-Sakura (or so it seems) and I got converted to liking her because of a manifesto for the very same couple. lol

Anyway, since reading that manifesto, she's quickly shot up my favorites list (which I'm more than overjoyed about) and she's now pretty snug in my 3rd favorite characters spot. My top 5 look something like this currently:

1. Sasuke and Naruto (tied)
2. Itachi and Suigetsu (tied)
3. Sakura
4. Ino
5. Orochimaru (x3)

Reading through the series again... I find that I really like Sakura's early days now. She is the way that she is in the current chapters because of how she was in the past. And I find it very interesting that in the very chapter that she's introduced in, she already starts to make improvements to herself.

x3 That's why I always dub her the most dynamic character in the series. No matter what part she has been in/is in/will be in, she will kick butt. Period.

Okay, first of all, I'm going to take just the teensiest amount of offense here and say: it's definitely not always BL/yaoi. I could point out quite a few het couples where females get bashed.

[ie-Kikyou bashing because of InuKag; (Inuyasha)
Kagome bashing because of InuKik; (Inuyasha)
May bashing because of Pokeshipping; (Pokemon)
Misty bashing because of Advanceshipping; (Pokemon)
Risa bashing because of DaisRiku; (DNAngel)
Aeris bashing because of CloudTifa; (FFVII)
Tifa bashing because she's more well endowed *cough* I mean... of CloudAeris; (FFVII)
Tomoe bashing because of KenshinKaoru; (Rurouni Kenshin)
Kaoru bashing because of KenshinTomoe; (Rurouni Kenshin)
Megumi bashing because of KenshinKaoru; (Rurouni Kenshin)
Arimi because of YuuMiki; (Marmalade Boy)
Miki because of YuuArimi; (Marmalade Boy)
Fuuka because of AkitoSana; (Kodomo no Omocha)
Sana because of AkitoFuuka; (Kodomo no Omocha)
Meiling because of Syaoran/Sakura; (Card Captor Sakura)
Parisu for so many different Goten pairings xD; (Dragon Ball GT)
Marron for both GotenBura and TrunksPan; (Dragon Ball GT)
Pan and Bura for both GotenMarron and TrunksMarron; (Dragon Ball GT)
Kagura bashing because of SessRin; (Inuyasha)
Rin bashing because of SessKagu; (Inuyasha)
Rei bashing occasionally because of MamoruUsagi; (Sailor Moon)
Seiya bashing (and I'm including this in here because he's technically a she) because of MamoruUsagi; (Sailor Moon)
Akane for so many different Ranma pairings; (Ranma 1/2)
Aeka bashing (and lots of it, I hear) because of TenchiRyoko (mostly); (Tenchi Muyo!)
Ryoko bashing occasionally because of TenchiAeka; (Tenchi Muyo!)

Those are some of the ones that I can remember. I'm not trying to say, with this post, of course, that bashing because of BL pairings doesn't occur. I'd be stupid to think so. However, I think that you missed part of the argument by pinning the blame solely on BL.

Besides, there are even male characters who get bashed for this reason (and I can name quite a few as well of those cases), so no it isn't true that this only occurs with the female characters.

Anyway, I absolutely hate that excuse to bash. >D I'm a huge BL/yaoi [read: pairings in general] fangirl but if someone's going to "hate" a character (especially a female one) because she "gets in the way of so-and-so's supposed "relationship", that person is far from mature.

*headdesk*

Another reason why the female characters get bashed so much is because of the double standard. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then I'll give you an example:

Tifa Lockheart is supposedly a b***h/whore/ho/slut because she has a big chest.

Misty Waterflower is a stupid, immature little girl who's uglier than [I don't even want to say] because she's got no chest.

A female character, let's say Higurashi Kagome, can't dissapprove of anything that Inuyasha says or does because if she sits him or scolds him in any way, she's manipulative, whiny, selfish, and uncaring.

On the other hand, Haruno Sakura needs to rebuke Sasuke more and stop agreeing with every little thing he says because she's too clingy, too fangirly, and just plain stupid.

[DIS.claimer::These are all some of my favorite female characters in the history of forever. I see them get bashed all the time, sadly.]

... Aaaand... this is what happens when I've ridden my bike around the block one too many times. >>
