Because camelot is a place of combat prowess and survival of the fittest.
All matches are to the death. Powerful ressurection magics cover the arena, so those that die here are revived.
Here, citizens can sign up for:
Vs. challenges
Survival matches
Vs challenges: Citizens can challenge each other. Grudge matches adn first blood matches are popular with the crowd.
Survival: Teams of combatants, or single combatants, take on waves of knights and monsters, with a few surprise boss fights if you get far enough wink

As you approach the centre of the arena, two gates slide up. Two goblins run in towards you.

The goblins are both very wounded, and they try and slash at you with their own claws.

Their heads explode.
Two more goblins rush in, and a goblin spirit shaman.
The shaman dances around and issues a lightning blot from a long, scaly finger.

rudari grabs the shamen by the throat flies up in the air stabs his claws into the neck and throws the shamen back down onto the floor

The shaman bends out the way of your claws and waves at you madly with his club, before falling to the ground. As you swoop to pick up the shaman, one of the regular goblins manages to claw at you.
