It had been expected, anticipated...the moment in which the lightning split the clouds and the thunder roared above his head. It was ominous, or would have been had the individual in question not been used to the barren wastelands and their foreboding atmosphere. Aware of the dangers, the secret pathways, it was during such foul weather that he patrolled alone without the help of his scouts and made certain that nothing remained hidden in his territory.
While he had allowed a number of soquili to stay, all three of these times had been acts of mercy. The rare times in which he had accepted that in the given circumstances they would die without his aid. Admittedly, he was one of the first who would have permitted these deaths had there not been a insistent voice in his head to do the right thing...even when they hadn't been invited inside.
However, today was an entirely different matter. Now that he had rid his lands of those that had taken refuge, the barrens were once again his and he would make certain they remained that way.
His cloven hooves carried him swiftly over the fallen trees and soggy vegetation. Weaving in and out of the trees, which for the most part were dead. He had already covered quite a lot of his land - the immediate area around his grove was secure but now it was time to look elsewhere and the wind, rain and the sound of the thunder above his head would mask his footfalls.
Ah yes, the gods favoured him this day.

Where was he now?
The two-toned spotted stallion looked up at the sky. It was storming all around him but there wasn't a drop of rain. He didn't get how that could work, clouds meant rain and noise. Well there was noise enough but there was no rain. He sighed and pressed on ignoring how heavy he felt from walking so long or maybe it was this place. Maybe this place was taking all his energy and keeping the refreshing rain all for itself.
"Think you could, I don' know...share a little?!" He shouted up to the sky as though it would really help. His answer was simply another flash and a deafening boom. "Thanks a lot..." he grumbled flicking his tail in annoyance before pressing on. "You're a real pal..."
The further it went the more chills ran down his spine. He thought it would be wise to turn back but he had no idea which way was out. There was only so far you could go into something right? After that you were heading out. Right? So why did it feel like impending doom was waiting for him? As a way to comfort himself he began humming various tunes he had heard throughout the village switching when he couldn't remember the next part. He needed to get out.

Singing probably wasn't the wisest of things to do while alone in a barren forest, the foul weather had encouraged most creatures to take refuge until the storm had run its course. Luck was on his side though, the rumbles occasionally hiding his location despite the lyrics and humming escaping through his parted lips. All the same, in one of the brief silences his voice did reach the ears of another.
Azumoth froze abruptly and turned his amber eyes towards the sound that drifted through the desolate trees. Narrowing his eyes, he took note of the quality and discerned that it did not belong to a smaller creature, it seemed that once again another had entered his territory and he was uninvited no less.
Good.
Azumoth had felt no release, it had been an age since he had allowed the more 'questionable' side of his nature to escape. Granted, he had bolted on one occasion but recently... Well, he had to admit he had been rather good but the Kalona within him simply didn't approve or rather, the Kalona inside him positively abhorred how he had been acting.
That was the problem with mutants, they always suffered in terms of lineage - while his mother's side preached tolerance and discipline, the dominant Kalona blood spoke otherwise. A bloody nightmare to say the least...
Thus, it was with a sly smile on his lips that the mutant altered the direction he had been walking in and proceeded towards the intruder, using the overcast weather to mask his approach.

All attempts at drowning out the storm were failing, miserably. The young stallion hit a horribly sour note as he jumped at the thunder rumbling overhead. He tried to recover the cheerful song from his blunder but it wasn't working with his voice squeaking and wavering over even the simplest notes. He whimpered letting his bottom lip stick out in a sort of timid pout before dropping to sit on his hind quarters. He couldn't handle this. Storms didn't generally bother him, but this place was making it hard to gather his courage.
Lightning flashed, thunder crashed, and Ayden's eyes widened. Something was moving in the distance and he didn't like it. With a flick of his tail and a flash of light Ayden was on his feet again and moving from where he stood. He lowered his head and pinned his ears back against his skull trying to make himself look less horse like in case his new 'friend' was hungry. He paced back and forth keeping his neck straight as an arrow making a bit hard to check around him for a good spot.
He found one. There was a fallen log several yards from him that would work. Forgetting about his disguise he darted for it skidding to a dust cloud halt before dropping down. He poked his head out from his hiding spot to see what was happening. There was no way he'd let himself get snuck up on.

He had seen the movements, they had been quick but enough for him to detect despite the failing light. With a chuckle, he shifted his direction once again and drifted towards the creature that had bolted. Those of the forest were familiar with him and wouldn't have ran, thus, he knew that this little creature was not of his forest.
That being said, the orb in his chest gave a pulse of anticipation as he drew nearer and came to halt in the small clearing that the stallion had previously been in. Well, he was aware that his new target had bolted but in this weather he couldn't have gone far, the ground would have been too unsteady and this form would have shown against the flashes of lightning above.
"Where are you, Poppet?" Azumoth purred, his amber eyes tracing along the immediate vicinity as his nostrils flared. Flexing his leather wings, he allowed the predator-like and feral instincts to dominate his senses as he attempted to locate the intruder - all he needed was the slightest wiff of a scent or a sound out of place.
"Are you lost, I wonder..."

Ayden watched the other approach from the safety behind his log. It was another horse, or at least he thought it was. He had wings and strange spike like things all over his body. Quite scared Ayden ducked his head down to avoid being seen and killed. He didn't doubt that he would be killed if he was found. The other just looked as though he'd slaughter someone without a second thought. It was times like these he wished he hadn't skipped so many sparring matches with Ame.
As a strange voice reached his ears he shuddered and shrunk down becoming stiller then ever before. That voice, he had looked like he would kill him now he sounded like he would take pleasure in spilling his blood. Would he bathe in it like the stories he had heard? The thought made him nauseous and he gagged slightly from it. He liked his organs right where they were thanks.
That voice again. It felt almost like it was probing into his mind but not in an unpleasant way and suddenly he opened his mouth. "Well yeah or I wouldn't be here..." His eyes widened and he quickly clamped his mouth shut praying that he hadn't been heard.

Uh huh.
Oh he had heard it, immediately his amber eyes shifted to where the sound had come from and he released a chuckle. It seemed that while the intruder excelled at hiding, keeping his mouth firmly shut was not one of his strong points. This sped up Azumoth's search considerably and with a flick of his whip-like tail he drew nearer to the voice...now, had the intruder waited for him to catch his scent, it would have taken considerably longer.
A young one?
It wouldn't surprise him, the young soquili seemed to get lost with exceptional ease as of late and they all seemed to end up in his territory. Hardly a welcome place, if he chose to leave them they may risk wandering until their death as it was... Although some might argue that wandering alone might be an even more painful death than what he often had in store during one of his more questionable moods.
...This land did border on a desert after all.
"Logic would state, that if a place is not recognisable...you would turn round -" Pausing where the intruder was hidden, but not looking down yet, the mutant released a chuckle and ruffled his wings lightly to encourage the rain to slide off them. "As opposed to moving farther in to hostile territory."
"So, answer me this..." Lowering his head so that his amber eyes could fix on the stallion hiding behind the log, "Why are your kind so fool hardy these days?"

Soft ears flicked back and forth picking up the sounds of breathing and hoof steps closing in. He gulped and slid to the ground burying his face as far under the log as it could go. This was the end. This was the end of his very spotty behind.
The voice spoke suddenly from right behind him making the young stallion jump knocking his face into the tree he was using for protection. "Ow..." He pulled his head back blinking tears from his eyes unsure if they were from his fear or from the lovely red scrap running across his muzzle. Ayden looked up slowly, the noise those wings made had him sure that this was his end, but he wasn't even looking at him yet. The creepy stallion was still talking! This was his chance he could get away!
He had just started getting to his feet when gold met yellow. He shrunk back down to where he had been laying keeping eye contact. His chance was over, he'd missed it big time. He stared at the other trying to pull the 'I'm to cute to be mad at' watery eye look he used on his mother and sister when he was young. "Please don't kill me..." He made his voice waver and squeak on occasion trying to make it more effective. He wanted to answer hoping he would be spared with an answer but he had absolutely know idea what 'fool hardy' meant. His sister often called his dad a fool, but what was hardy? Did it mean they were tough? Was he complimenting him or insulting him?
Running all these thoughts in his head was making him dizzy. Finally he jumped up dropping the eyes and voice. "I don't know! Why are you being so confusing? I'm lost I don't need riddles or death threats!"

The ridiculous attempts to look harmless never worked particularly well on the mutant, he had always preferred blatant honesty. However, he merely raised a brow as the colt went from pitiful to desperate in such a short time. Now this was more like it, his pelt gave a soft shiver as the male before him expressed his fears and something deep inside appeared to be satisfied.
Ah yes, he didn't always need blood, he just needed to feel that sense of power and he loved to revel in it. As the stallion expressed fear, it gave the mutant an overwhelming sense of power and a small smile flickered onto his lips. His temper seemed to be lulling considerably even if the storm above wasn't... Simple pleasures, just a few to satiate his needs and even his worst emotions subsided.
Strange, but in these circumstances the mutant was very happy in relation to the temperament his mother had.
"I fail to see how I uttered any death threats, but..." He canted his head to the side, amber eyes blinking slowly, "Why did you walk so far into unknown territory?"

That smile sent a shiver down Ayden's spine for an entirely different reason. He had never seen a smile like it before and ever bit of him told him to bolt his legs, however, remained stalk still. Flight or fight, that was what it came down too really but as he couldn't flee and fighting seemed like a death wish he decided to think. What would be an answer that wouldn't get him killed. The truth sounded dumb but innocent though the innocent act hadn't worked in the first place.
"Ummm...it didn't seem unknown? No! That's not what I meant...umm...well uhh..." This wasn't working. He had never been good at lying under pressure which would of course be the only time when he could use it. "If you promise to stop staring at me like you're gonna eat me I'll tell you..." Did that mean the stallion wouldn't wanna eat him? Probably not but then he wouldn't feel so nervous and would probably be able to give a decent explanation.
In truth he'd been lost for quite a while now, not just in these wastes but everywhere. He had no idea where he was or which way home was but he didn't think the rather fierce looking stallion would by that. The words he was trying to use also seemed to be lost somewhere in his trembling body.

At the plea of mercy the mutant couldn't help but laugh...surprisingly, the childish question caused warmth to flood into his voice and the laughter appeared significantly richer. Once he had finished, he lowered his head again and arched a brow in response to the request - apparently there were ways to amuse the stallion, providing entertainment might elevate a bad mood.
"I do not eat meat," The mutant pointed out, flashing his fangs in a rather ironic smile. It was true, he was no man eater and rather preferred the taste of raspberries to the taste of blood - to him the strange metallic taste was far from pleasant. Even so, the response was one he really should have been expecting as he gave another ruffle of his leather wings.
"Humour me."

Didn't eat meat? With teeth like that he was expected to believe that he was an herbivore? It seemed a little too hard to swallow but he counted that as a promise that he would live. He hoped. "Ummm...well...I don't know where I am." He said laughing nervously to comfort himself. "I don't even know where home is...so when I say that...umm...I'm lost...I mean that I have been for...like...ummm...like 17 sun falls..." He gulped hoping that was humorous enough. It seemed pretty funny in a cruelly ironic way.

"You have been lost for nearly three weeks?" Azumoth's tone was flat and yet at the same time, his eyes appeared to twinkle with amusement. Apparently, those of the Clearings and plentiful forests were far less intelligent than he imagined. He had already been fairly certain to teach all those who lived within his Grove - if they were lost, turn around and walk in the direction you had come.
Nonetheless, he gave the stallion credit for allowing himself to appear the fool and he had honoured Azumoth's request. In that, the mutant supposed that for now he would allow the stallion to occupy his lands, those who could humiliate themselves were sometimes much deeper than first assumed. Granted, that didn't make them any more silly in their decisions but all the same...
"So let me understand this - You became lost and did not even consider turning around on the first day, you let yourself wander for another sixteen?"

While he wasn't completely calm Ayden began to relax a bit. The rather creepy stallion seemed to be serious when he said he didn't eat meat as he was still alive. Maybe it was because he was distracted by Ayden's tale? If that was it better to keep talking. "Well...by then I'd been out three days already..." He admitted a bit sheepishly. "I don't know where I've been or come from..." He looked nervously to the winged one. Most of his story had been told, what would happen when the questions were over.
He gulped and took a few steps backwards looking around for some way to keep the blacky in front of him occupied. "So ummm...could you show me around...so I don't get lost further?" He was preparing to run the second something went wrong. If he got lost so be it, at least then he wouldn't be with a possible psycho killer. Anything was better then death, well maybe not, but death like this definitely!
