In the forest at the base of the mountains near the river.

User Image Ever Sacrifice had come to this river so many times to think over things, to think about her new teepee mates as well as something bigger. Oh she liked the orange flutter a lot better now, after that pompous a**-hat Wind started picking on both of them.

But it wasn't about those two that she came here this cool evening. She had two, maybe three, lives growing deep inside her. She hadn't known she was pregnant when she first had that talk with Celendria here not too long ago.

She blushed. That mare had been right. It was all so magical and now she'd have a family of her own. But she hadn't been able to find Tawali when she was still capable of covering great distances. Now she was round with child and still needed to tell the father, her lifemate. She hoped he would pop in and check on her soon. Her light blue eyes looked up towards the sky in hope.

The sun was hot. Hotter then Tawali had given it credit for, but he still had needed to take this flight. Since his run in with one medicine hat Wind, he had felt out of sorts. He needed his mate, a good long chat and some time spent with her. He had been wondering around a little too long. He needed to spend time with her, make sure she realised just how much he loved her, and get in some quality time.

He tipped his wings a little, and he started to spiral. From down below, he may have looked like a very oversized buzzard. He was tempted to mimic the small, mewling noise of the buzzard, but decided not to, instead scanning the mountains base. He was looking for that fleck of red, that brightness that always called to him. His feathers had brought him this far, but it was up to him to find the captor of his heart. He spiralled down, near the river where they had met a little before their love had blossomed. He trailed it up and spotted a flash of pale blond and red up ahead. Tawali beamed. His love. He felt the pull of his feathers on his heart and he landed quickly, trotting the rest of the way. She was radiant, beautiful as always and---

"EVER?!?! Is tha' ye? Aww mah gods above! Lookit ye!!! Wha' happened!?!" Tawali stopped mid-stride, a look crossed of shock and joy passing over his face. It was definitely Ever, his beautiful Ever, but... but that was certainly a new revelation! When had that---- "Ooooh no... It can' be! Ever... Put me ou' mah misery... Is tha'... or is tha' not... wha' Ah think i' is?!" Tawali could hardly bring himself to say the words. Excitement exuded out of every inch of the stallion. Whatever troubles he had had earlier were being washed away like sand on the mountain side in autumn rains.

Ever hadn't really noticed his entrance, too busy looking the wrong way, until the sound of hooves interrupted her thoughts. Thinking it was either Wild Wind or Nacio, she turned with a scowl on her features and a sharp word on the tip of her tongue. They had both been pestering about her unborn children for the last few weeks.

But it was her mate that was standing there. The scowl smoothed away and was replaced by a confused and worried look as he stumbled forth in his words. She didn't know how he was going to react to finding her now large-bellied, but his cyan eyes told her that it was good. She broke out in a smile and stepped towards him, nuzzling softly against his tan muzzle.
"Yes. I'm pregnant!"

She wanted to stomp her hooves in absolute joy and glee, but couldn't risk any harm to the unborns. "You're going to be a father, Tawali. I was so worried you would be upset that this happened."

Tawali's eyes were wide, the blue in them glimmering with glee and absolute excitement. He was twitching, muscles jumping, wings flicking, nostrils flaring and ears spinning. He nuzzled her so exhuberantly when she neared him, he had to draw back in fear of toppling her. He circled her a few times, taking in the sight. She was glowing with pride, and Tawali couldn't blame her. He stepped close to her, placing his head side on, listening to her stomach, half expecting his lewd accent to emit from her insides. Tawali hoped dearly that the foals picked up their mother's smooth tones rather then his rough, all-over accent.

"Ever... Ah don' know what teh say!" He turned back to her, nuzzling his head under her chin, wrapping one of his wngs tightly around her back and gently stroking at her bulging side. "How have ye been doin'? Does any'un else know? What abou' ye two-leg?!" Tawali was so full of questions, and as he spoke he took his head from her chin and lay his head over her neck, bringing her close into a hug. He lipped at her mane, soft against his cheek, and nuzzled just behind her ear, awaiting her answers. It suddenly struck him that she may be tired and he stepped away, standing so he was facing her. "Should we fin' some'ere te sit? Ye mus' be tired!"

She could tell he was more than happy about this news, he was excited and she her smile was large with pride and joy. "I've been doing well, even though I have new unwanted guests living with me and my two-legger," she said with a snort. She wasn't sure if Tawali knew that Wild Wind had decided to choose their happy home as his new roost until he found a suitable place for his soon to be herd.

She sighed in frustration just thinking about that stallion, but this was a happy moment.
"Everyone here at home knows and my two-legger has been working on the baskets for the little ones. And no, I'm not tired, but I would like to sit with you and talk about a few things."

Tawali's eyes narrowed a little in worry of the situation in her teepee currently. Who was making it difficult on her in her state? He'd give them an earful if they didn't leave his mate alone, but he decided to drop it. Now wasn't the time to be playing heroics. Now was Ever time, and he wanted to spend time with his beautiful mate.

"Uwoduhi galvloi digadili." He murmured, pressing his nose to her muzzle and smiling. "Well, at leas' some'un is Ah s'pose." He chuckled, thinking to the fact without Ever's two-leg, they probably wouldn't be able to have healthy foals. Perhaps he should consider attempting to find a two-leg... But that would ground him further, and he'd rather have the freedom to be with Ever and with the sky. Ever had tamed him as much as she could, but he still loved the sky... galvloi digadili... perhaps thats why he loved her some much. She reminded him of the sky, soft but powerful, eyes so blue... He smiled and nodded, lifting his head a moment to look for some shady place to lay. There were few trees this close to the river, so he turned his attention a little further down-river, spying a nice willow, cascading its streamers into the water. It was like the tree they had lain beneath when Tawali had given her the feathers. He would have to give Ever's two-leg two feathers for each basket she made, so he would forever be able to find his family.

"Come, Ever, le's sit un'er there. What is it ye got on ye min'?" He lipped her her pale mane and smiled teasingly, coaxing her to follow him with a flicker of his wing over her back and shoulder.

She smiled warmly as he spoke in his native tongue. She only knew bits and pieces, knowing more Lakota than anything else. She returned the nuzzle affectionatly before taking his advice and waddle over to where he wanted her to rest.

She curled her front legs under her before slowly moving down to the ground, careful not to harm the unborns.
"It's about my teepee mates. They're driving me nuts. Nacio is a hyper, enthusiastic, orange flutter that keeps cooing at my belly and trying to keep things in a happy tone."

She rolled her icy eyes, clearly annoyed by some memories that still haunted her. "He and my two-legger were the first to notice my rounding belly." And then she sighed heavily. This was the part she didn't want to talk about. "Then there's Wild Wind..."

Tawali had just beant his knees to lay beside her when she mentioned one name he had hoped would never tumble from her lips. His eyes opened and he jumped up again, backing away from her, eyes pained. She knew then. She knew his history, the one he had tried so hard to stop her from finding out. The danger and pain he had caused... His banishment. He snorted suddenly, eyes lowering. He couldn't look at her, knowing that she knew. He whickered softly, almost silent as he lowered his head, turning his face from her, suddenly looking very lost. A life had been lost that day. All because one male had been unable to hold in his jealousy...

"Ah... Ah s'pose you know then... What happen'd." His voice was low, dejected. He looked a sorry sight, the excitment of foals suddenly fading. He knew that stallion could not be trusted, knew he would cause problems now that Tawali's life was back on course... Ah, how he wanted to rip that Wind Soquili limb from limb. He'd take lessons from a Kalona if it helped him, but the adrenaline that would pump through him next time that stallion cross his path would be enough to fuel the fire. Tawali almost choked on his next words. "Do ye wan' me te go?" He was so lost. He had finally made a home, a home that he could be a part of. He had never felt right in the old herd. He now knew it was because his heart had already flown the nest, finding this beauty, his 'uwoduhi galvloi digadili'. Why had that stallion come now? Tawali had known as soon as he spotted that bird that his life was about to be turned upside down... He hadn't expected it to happen this quickly.

"Ah... Ah'd un'erstan' if'n ye didn' feel safe wit' me no more." Tawali screwed up his eyes, wings drooping slowly. "Ah bet 'e loved tellin' ye abou' me banishmen'."

Her looked at him lost and confused. She couldn't really get up now that she was down, but she nickered softly to him with large eyes full of love and sadness. "I don't know what happened, Tawali... And NO don't go!" She was hitting a turn in her emotional state, going into hesteria.

She somehow managed to push herself back up on her hooves, though a bit wobbly.
"Am I missing something? All I know is that that peacock keeps calling me a disgraceful grounded. He noticed your feathers right off the bat and has been degrading me every turn he gets."

Ever stomped a hoof hard on the ground and turned to block his path, looking him dead in the eyes, daring him to leave. "You can't leave me now! You can't go. I love you, Tawali. I'm having your children. I don't care what your past is, though I would like to know. Don't go!"

Tawali had been staring into the distance, lost to his memories, when he noticed Ever had stood and was in front of him, demanding he stay. His sad eyes locked with hers, and he read the confusion, the loss, the love and the saddness. He noted the hysteria, and his eyes roved over her face before he closed the distance and hid his face in her neck and mane, hiding himself away from the world, trying to make himself as small as possible.

"Ah'm sorry Ever... Please forgive meh..." His words were muffled by her mane and neck, but Tawali didn't care. He felt safe, and the shiver of his spine had stopped. He stepped back slowly, cyan green eyes filled with pain. "Ah didn' mean to, Ever." His voice was filled with unshed hurt and regret. "What ever 'e tells ye, tha' won't 'ow it 'appen'd." Tawali took a shuddering breath, and motioned for her the lay again, this time falling to his own knees and laying, now he had her reassurance. "I'... I' was a long time ago... Ah was young, an' Ah was foolish, an' Ah listen'd te the words of a fool." Tawali cast his eyes away for a moment, eyes fading into his memories. He saw the teeth, the claws, , the snarls echoing up the steep walls of the valley as he ran for his life. He had no room to spread his wings and fly, so he had no option but to run... And run he did. Straight into her... her innocent face... "Ever, she died. She'd on'y recently come out 'er basket, an' she died. They tore at 'er... An' Ah just ran..." Tawali lowered his head, a lone tear escaping his eye. He had cried for that foal for so many hours when he had realised she had been taken. He had cried so much, when he stood before the Elders, he's had no more tears to shed, and they had thought of him and a merciless killer. He had aided the wolves in finding the herd, and now none were safe.

"Ever... Ah'm sorry..." Tawali looked at her for comfort and acceptance. He wasn't sure if he would receive it, and gods above knew he didn't deserve it, but she was right, she had to know the truth. Would she think less of him now, trust him with their baskets, their offspring. He knew how dearly she loved him, and he returned it ten-fold. "Ever... Ah love ye, Ah really do... Please forgive me..."

Her mind had been racing in circles over what was happening to other mares in the lands. Broken life-mates, seperated families, bitter and cold feelings from both sides. She didn't think she would be able to handle something like that until she felt Tawali burn into her mane and neck. She calmed then, shushing quietly and stroking against him with her head.

"Tawali, it's alright. You scared me. I was scared I would be another one of those broken life-mated mares. I don't want you to leave me when I need you most." She stepped back when he pulled away from her and looked in his eyes, all the love and concern still shining brightly in those orbs.

She was careful as she moved her large belly towards the group, curling up as close to him as she could. She stretched her neck over his body, giving him comfort and support as he told his story. She knew that no matter what, she wasn't going to leave him.

Ever nuzzled against him as he explained his story. It seemed completely out of character for her mate to have done something like that. To have caused an innocent's death. She pressed her muzzle against his and then said,
"There's no need to apologize to me for something that happened to another."

Her sky blue eyes looked him over, touching once or twice on the scar down his eye and remembering that fateful day he had been so headstrong on protecting, but she made sure that neither of them had gotten hurt that day. "You're older now. Stronger. I know you'll protect our children. They're our pride. I love you, Tawali. Who you are now. Not who you were then."

Tawali unfurled the wing closest to her, tucking it over her and over their lump of unborns. He didn't mean to get upset, and he had never wanted to upset her. Her words calmed him, and he sat silently, nose nuzzled into her cheek. Her last words startled him a little, and a small ball of panic rose in his chest again.

"Bu' Ah'm no diff'ren' Ever. Ah'm still tha' colt, still the Tawali of then. The on'y thin' tha's diff'ren' is tha' Ah'm some'ere else. Ah'm still Tawali..." The words of Wild Wind from earlier permeated his senses. 'I see you've kept yours and your feathers'. Yes, he had, because he wasn't going to change because of that Wind's lucky plan. Tawal whickered softly, a sad sound, but he knew that Ever still accepted him, no matter his shady past. "Ah never wanted te tell ye. Ah was set up, Ah hadn't meant te be followed."
PostPosted: Wed Jun 13, 2007 2:06 pm

She frowned at him then when he sputtered on about how he wasn't different. She didn't know him then, they had been in completely different regions when they were both young, but she knew who he was now and how he treated her. That was all that mattered was how he protected and loved her.

"And I love the colt that you are," she said as she rubbed the top of her head beneath his neck in an affectionate way. He made her world all the more brighter and kept her heart light. That's what she had been drawn to.

But Ever hadn't expected to hear him say that he had been set up. She pulled her head back and looked him in the eyes, confused and ready to defend him.
"Set up? Who would do such a thing?"

Tawali's eyes held a hint of pain as he cast his mind back to that trial. The Elder's had refused to listen to him, refused to listen to anyone that had said it had not been his fault, but whatever lies they had been fed, they believed them over the truth laid out before their eyes. Tawali had always been getting into trouble, blamed for this and that, and because he had always had a mischeivious nature, the punishment was often laid on him. Whatever the case, the Elders had had enough, and the death of that foal had been that wind that pushed them over the edge. But even now, Tawali remembered.

"Those mismatched eyes al'ays laughed." He commented, eyes downcast, a frown marring his features, crinkling the scars around his eyes. It was probably all Ever would need to understand who, if it was true that the medicine hat was currently residing there. "How did ye know Ah'd react badly te the knowledge o'im livin' in ye teepee?" Tawali turned bright but strangely calm eyes to his mate. He pressed his muzzle to hers, breathing deep her scent.
