I think that there are. There have been many accounts of remembering other lives that they recognized as their own. I've only had a few flashes of my past lives, but they're mostly of the dramatic parts. And most of the dramatic parts explain why I'm so afraid of some things. Like the breaking of glass or walking down a flight of stairs.

Well I have a theory on that. I believe that souls can be created, not destroyed. However in some traumatic times a soul can split. Its hard to explain, but if something truly horrible happens to the soul it can split and part of it remains the person while the other becomes sort of a soul of it's own.

My take on it is this; we all come from the Goddess and God (or whomever these other people believe in. To me, it's all the same life force, just viewed differently) and there's a constant flow of spirit matter coming off of them. Okay, for instance, think of a big slab of dough. it starts as one, right? Now, keep tearing little threads of it away. It's so elastic that you could probably tear it into several more pieces of dough... Yeah, it's a crappy analogy, but my basic concept is this; the Goddess and God (or whatever/whomever they believe in) are constantly giving off individual strands of energy, each becoming another person or creature, or living thing (like plants, for instance). Everything is interlinked; we are attached to the universe, we all come from the same matter, we're connected to other humans, to other animals, to trees, rocks, water, fire, air, earth, the stars, the moon, etc. We come back as many times as we need to; usually, until we've fulfilled our spiritual experience to the full, learning all we needed to learn. Then, we no longer come back after that. But, in the mean time, new spirits are "given birth to" by the essence of the universe (the deity/deities). A little complicated, but not so bad when you can find the right wording for it.

I always believed that since there are more trees being cut down than people being born then the souls of the trees were put into the people and less are being reincarnated back into trees or other plants or animals.
