Affairs of the Hearrte
Welcome, fair adventurer, to the Worlde of Vretoaz. Whence you have come and what thou hast faced are no more a concern than the mud upon thy worn shoes. All that matters now is thy Hearrte. Are ye prepared to fight tooth and nail for your Hearrte? Wouldst thou go to the ends of the Worlde to find it? Does thine soul yearn for it? Thou might lose thy life searching for it, as many have done over the ages of time.
Let me explain, adventurer. Thy Hearrte is object which every adventurer in the Worlde of Vretoaz searches for, yearns for. It is a part of them, calling from across the barren surface of Vretoaz. All adventurers have a Hearrte, that part of them which truly is them, that makes them an adventurer. For a time, they would go on without their Hearrte, ignoring the call, the hole in their soul. But no adventurer can ignore it forever. Inevitably they go to find their Hearrte, which can be hiding anywhere in the Worlde. And once they find it, they are truly whole. They can do things they never thought possible once, their strength, their courage, their greatness increases as never before. Truly, once an adventurer finds his Hearrte, he can become a Hero.
This Worlde, Vretoaz, is a barren, lifeless, dangerous world on the surface. The people of Vretoaz live either on floating islands of the sky, sustained in their bouyancy by ancient magicks, or they live in a vast, world-spanning system of underground cities and tunnels, vast and luminated by strange crystals found deep in the heart of the Worlde.
The Sky Kingdoms are loosely bound into a Conferacy known as the Calandreai, singular islands known as a Calanda. The inhabitants of the Calandreai are known as Calan elves. Calan elves are a tall, proud people, fond of magick and of their own proficiency with weapons. Though they are pompous, they have good hearts, and do little to purposely hurt one another.
The vast system of underground cities is known as Gortulki. But most inhabitants, Gortuls, prefer to be associated with their own cities than with the underground country as a whole. Gortuls are delicate, petite elves and human-like creatures with large eyes to take in lots of light, and quick minds. They are very often acrobats and theives, but their high intelligence makes them skilled at a great many things. They are emotional, high-strung, and easily-angered, but they make friends quickly and forget trangressions just as quickly as they instigate them.
The Calan elves and the Gortuls are often at odds, and do their best to avoid each other. Unless, of course, they are adventurers. Adventurers often see beyond racial differences and join forces, forging great bonds between the two races.

Characters! Please PM character submissions, 'kay?
This is where I'll be posting characters in the roleplay. You'll be using this form;
Name: Age: Gender: Calan elf or Gortul?: Weapon/Skill: Appearance: Other/Additional Information
My Characters:Name: Avoron Golv Age: 19 Gender: Male Calan elf or Gortul?: Calan elf Weapon/Skill: Sword/ claymore Appearance: Other/Additional Information: Keeper of the books at Nareat Island of the Calandreai. Very intelligent, very adventurous, but a little naive and unused to the hardships of adventuring. Name: Faeandra Skylesse Age: 19 Gender: Female Calan elf or Gortul?: Gortul Weapon/Skill: Magic, and a thin silver spear Appearance: Other/Additional Information: She wears an eyepatch over her eye to preserve night vision when adventuring on the surface. When needed, she switches her patch to the other eye, increasing her battle abilities at night with superior night vision. SilentShadowDreamer's characterName: Tekira Age: 19 Gender: Female Calan elf or Gortul?: Gortul Weapon/Skill: Bow and dagger Appearance: TekiraOther/Additional Information: She's still young and unsure if she wants a life as an adventurer or just to remain in her city. When she decides, she'll stick with it, but for now she's trying one thing and another to find out what she really wants. Xaron the destroyer's character:Name:Zepher Age:32 Gender:male Calan elf or Gortul?:Calan elf Weapon/Skill:His scythe, and dark magicry Appearance: Tektek style Other/Additional Information((bio?))Zepher was just an ordinary Calan Elf on adventure, but he found his hearrte quickly, though he felt as if it was weakening him. HE very stupidly destroyed the hearrte, and he fell to the ground, writhing in pain. When he arosse, he found his body unchanged, but his clothes had blackened, and his outlook on life bleak. HE hunts other people who search for their hearrtes, trying to steal them after their finder is slaughtered, as he needs to fill his soul, though every time he does so, his soul darkens even more. He is extremely ill, both physically and spiritually, often spitting up mouth fulls of blood caused by this destruction of his hearrte. HE can often fight well in combat against others(Mostly to kill those to take their hearrtes)), but must stop every few minutes and expel much blood from his system, though no matter how much blood he coughs up, it doesn't seem to effect him. HE actually prefers to befriend his victims, so he can journey with them, and find their hearrte, so he is a nice person that is very twisted. Ikken Isshu's character:Name: Aer d'Mors Age: 19 Gender: Male Calan elf or Gortul?: Calan Weapon/Skill: Carries several throwing daggers hidden about his person at all times, and also enjoys using magick to augment his natural abilities and empowering himself. The only method of magick that he actually uses to directly attack people is that he can summon a paper-thin, razor-sharp epee with magick. Appearance: Other/Additional Information He has a rather dry sense of humour, and a somewhat stuffy attitude. However, true to his race, Aer is not a cruel or mean person. He comes from the noble Mors family of Calan elves, but refuses to return home or communicate with his family for reasons unknown; He has apparently also had an unpleasant past, but is close-lipped about it. He tries not to let himself get too close to others, but by his very nature and personality, is drawn toward other people. As has been said, he is not a cold person, even though he tries to come off that way, in order to keep people from liking him. However, he always ends up seeking out company when he is feeling lonesome. The subject of romance, however, inevitably sends him running for the hills, for reasons unknown; the reason probably, though, has something to do with why he tries not to get too close to people. Name: Rivus d'Mors (Donnol Islands Old Tongue--"River of Death") Age: 47 Gender: Male Calan elf or Gortul?: Calan Weapon/Skill: Magick. Appearance: Other/Additional Information A fearsome sorcerer with both arms elbow-deep in frightening occult circles, as well as having his hands bloodied by hundreds of lives for some of the most insignificant causes. He is very powerful in the uses of offensive magick and curses, and can Heal to a great degree, but only for a great price, unlike normal Healing. He is an extremely manipulative man, and despite his great magickal power, prefers not to actually dirty his own hands when he can help it, choosing to instead further his schemes by tricking other people into doing it for him. Name: Satsujin Age: 22 Gender: Female Calan elf or Gortul?: Calan Weapon/Skill: Fights with two katanas, in a self-taught discipline. Can't use magick. Appearance: Other/Additional Information Oddly mature and serious for her age, Satsujin speaks little of where she came from; not because she wishes to keep it a secret, but because she sees no need for useless reminiscences. She is friendly, however, even if earning her trust can go rather slowly. She is on a quest to find her Hearrte, but can only sense its pull if she has fresh blood on her hands. She is not evil, and is in no hurry to slaughter people in the search for her Hearrte, so instead, she partners with others, travels with them, and notes the direction of the pull whenever she is forced to kill thieves and would-be murderers. anime-love116's character:Age: 15 Gender: Female Calan elf or Gortul?: Calan elf Weapon/Skill: Attacking with Cloth Appearance: Other/Additional Information She very adventurous, friendly, energetic, and talkative The Unsung Bard's characters: Name: Unknown (He is known by many Wanderer of The Wastes, The Hermit, or Wraith, but these are merely names he has earned through legend.) Age: unknown Gender: Male Calan elf or Gortul?: Unknown Weapon/Skill: One-Shot Pistols, rapier Appearance: Look at this!Other/Additional Information Simply, he is a pirate. He cruises the wastes and the skys in his flagship, Wratih. Few have seen him and survived, and his past is shrouded in mistery. His ship has the unique ability to traverse the waste, as well as invisibility for suprise appearances. If you see his flag on the horizon, your allready dead. Driinex's Character:Name: Kallori Age: 18 Gender: Female Calan elf or Gortul?: Gortul Weapon/Skill: Whips, Tonfa blades Appearance: Other/Additional Information She is a theif. A very good one at that. But she is very naive and sweet. She can't eat sugar because it sends her into hyperactive mode major. Chizumi-kun's CharacterName:LynnaiAge:17Gender:FemaleCalan elf or Gortul?:CalanWeapon/Skill: Two rather large guns with kick, magical kick. She'll miss now and then, but she's got a deadly shot, and some plain magic to back herself up when her gun's not handy.Appearance: Other/Additional Information: This Calan adventurer will do anything to find her hearrte. Searching since her beloved died, and took her heart, the whole in her seemed endless. The only thing she could think to do was spend her days searching and adventuring, and trying to make friends without getting attached. You can't break a broken heart. But you can fix it with a new one. She's slightly adapted to underground as her adventures have taken her there, but adores sunlight and likes to ride anything that can fly. Or anyone that can magic her into flying too!

Mission Statement
Okay, my goal here is to create a self-sustaining world. I prefer creating worlds, as opposed to being involved. Obviously, I'll still participate, but the goal is to create a world where the users create their own stories, centered around the broad plot points I've provided. Obviously, a ambitious goal. We'll need lots of people. Tell your friends, get involved, advertise, whathaveyou. Don't feel like just because I'm not here to force the story along you can't participate. Feel free to add characters, cities, animals. Just keep within the context of the world, and keep it appropriate. If you're not sure about something, message me and I swear I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
It's a free world, people! Go nuts, have fun! It's creative, it's not your typical school world, anime world, or plot-driven fantasy world. Create it, build it. If your contributions seriously add to the world, I'll add it to the front page introduction, with due acknowledgement. So your ideas can be featured here too! I appreciate creativity and literate fun!
Go adventure!
~ Your friendly neighborhood RP Master Faey

Locations
Calandreai Islands
Nareat Island, one of the larger of the Calandreai Islands, Nareat Island is home to more than 70% of Calan academies and universities. Largely populated by scholars and nobles, it is ruled by a council of elders, chosen from the leadership of the most prestigious schools. Viewed as one of the more elite islands, there are still a few more middle-class inhabitants who run day-to-day affairs, such as book-keeping, cleaning, cooking, running small shops, and running hotels.
Donnol Islands: a cluster of floating Calandreai that operate under a common government, ruled by a Chancellor who, for the most part, runs the government; however, it is not a monarchy, and there is a Council below the Chancellor which has equal power. The Donnol Islands are very old, and though they now speak Common Tongue, there is also a Donnol Old Tongue
Known Donnol Islands: Newgate Massilia Contributed by Ikken Isshu
Gortul Cities
Cendrori, a large urban city, host to two extremes. The more elite, high-class business owners and virtual rulers of the city, and the lower-class gangs, rulers of the streets. Gang wars happen often, though rarely escalate to the point were the lords take notice. Though a rough-and-tumble sort of place, it's welcoming enough once you make a friend.
Other Locations
The Black Dunes, a merciless and vast desert home to an extensive clan of black-clad marauders. If you wish to pass un-harmed through the Dunes, you bring the marauders peace gifts in hopes they will assist you in finding water and temporary shelter.
Hodectes, a large port town and one of the few places where Gortul and Calan elves intermingle and co-exist. Contributed by Ikken Isshu
Forteresse de Terrain Vague, a hidden city between the two main civilizations. Little is known. Contributed by The Unsung Bard

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is there a difference between Gortuls and Calan elves?
A: Yes. Gortuls are smaller and faster, and generally of a more delicate countenance then Calans. They make better spies, better theives, better assassins, ninjas, politicians, double agents, and in general rely more on cunning. Gortuls are also more sensitive to bright lights and prone to severe sunburn and sun poisoning.
Calans are taller, have a more golden skin tone, and are generally hardier from being exposed to more of the elements. They're stronger and bigger, and make better warriors, archers, commanders, and adventurers. In general, they rely more on ability and natural prowess then the cunning and tricks that Gortuls use. Calans usually are extremely fearful of tight spaces and hate being underground. *********************
Q: Are Hearrtes physical items or are they merely spiritual?
A: Although Hearrtes are spiritual in nature, they take on physical properties based on their individual. Therefore, if someone has a deep love of magic, their Hearrte might be shaped like a magical amulet, and things like that. Generally Hearttes are small and fairly portable, but there is no size limit.

Tekira leaned her head against her hand, bored out of her mind. She had yet to decide what she really wanted to do with her life. Her parents, of course, wanted her to stay, get married and sit around waiting for her husband all the time, the way all the women in her family had. She didn't want that...at least, she didn't think she did. And definitely not yet. She wanted to see the world outside her city. There were other cities. There was a whole 'nother world in the sky, where the Calan elves lived. She wanted to see it all...and maybe even find her Hearrte, that fabled 'missing part', in the process. With a smile, she stood up. Maybe she would settle down one day, but not right now. She was too young. I'll find my Hearrte. And once I do, I'll probably have all the adventuring out of my blood. Still smiling, she went to tell her parents. They would be mad. Of course they would be mad. But after all, there was more to life than waiting.

((Just perfect))
Faeandra navigated quickly through the tunnels that led to her living complex. The tunnels were eerily luminated by bright glowing crystals of many colors. She was wearing her traveling gear, her eyepatch wrapped around her wrist for future use. Her last adventurer had gained her enough money to pay off her debts and set her family up nicely. Now, no strings attached to anything down her, she was setting off to find her Heartte. The empty space inside her, she could feel it acutely now, where she once never noticed. She had to fill it. She grabbed a pack of provisions and traveling gear in her front doorway, set things in order for her absence, and set off for the surface tunnel.

Zepher ran among the dead forest. HE followed the foot prints of his quarry, the Gortul running with His Hearrte. He saw him up ahead, looking to see if he had lost Zepher, but he should never have turned. Zepher used some slight magic to create a clone across from him. The clone ran toward the gortul, causing the gortul to run toward the real Zepher who was standing yards from him behind a boulder. To late, foolish creature, Zepher thought slashing his scythe out, and catching the gortul in the chest with his scythe blade. He brought the blade up quickly, slicing his trachea in half, and he watched the gortul's blood spatter on his arms as he coughed the blood up, and died. Zepher pulled the blade out of the Corpse that lay at his feet, and puled a sac from the belt of the Creature."Perfect day."He said grabbing the creature by the hair, and dragging the corpse along, the hearrte in his hand.

((Yup 3nodding ))
Faeandra slung the pack into a more comfortable position on her back and opened the rusty, heavy door that led to the outside. Blinking rapidly at the bright light that spilled through the door, she hurried through and slammed the door closed. She surveyed the area critically. She'd been out here many a time, certainly. The rocky canyon was to the left, the petrified forest to the right, the dried-up lake straight ahead. The Calandreai islands floated hundreds of feet above, casting shadows on the already dark and dreary landscape.
She adjusted the pack again and head off, halfway between the forest and lake.

Zepher threw the body on top of the pile of skeletons in the cave. HE took the hearrte in his hand, and set it on a pentagram shaped stone, and lit some candles. HE had sealed the cave with a large stone from the inside, and it was completely dark, with no light until he light the candles. They glow red, and he watched with the empty sockets where his eyes used to be when he was alive. He felt the power of the Hearrte enter him, and watched the hearrte on the slab turn Grey, and then to dust. He walked over to the freshly slain Gortul's body, and placed a black gloved hand on it's cheek, before biting into the neck, and sucking every part of sustenance out of the body, leaving skin and bones only, another addition to the pile. Zepher forced the stone aside, and left the cave, looking just as he did as he entered, but now somewhat, revived. He shut the caves entrance by sliding the stone into place, and began looking for a new 'friend' to find.

Faeandra skirted the very edge of the petrified forest, heading east towards the Dunes of Black. The Dunes themselves weren't black, but the marauders that lived and raided the Dunes were always cloaked in Black. Faeandra had won their fear and respect last year, when she beat their leader in a duel. She decided to pay them a visit before heading on her quest.
She grabbed the eyepatch from her wrist and set it fluidly over her right eye, preserving and enhancing her night vision. Now she would be ready for anything.

Zepher saw a female Gortul a fair distance away. She didn't seem like she had her Heartte yet, and maybe he could help her on her journey. He slowly followed her, walking quickly, to catch up and introduce himself, though he kept silent.
