There were only so many times when rolling in dew coated grass would serve as a substitute for a proper bath. She'd reached her limit of days gone by, seeking out a stream only to find a beautiful lake instead. "Wonderful, she murmured softly as she wandered towards it, testing the water with one hoof. It was perfect; the sun had warmed it just enough to make it perfect bathing water.

She waded deeper, letting the water swell up around her, the soft sway of the lake carrying the dust off of her coat as it caressed her before easing back. She often found herself forgetting such sensations. Forgetting made them all the more enjoyable when she felt them once agin and this reminded her of that, if only momentarily.

The lake, she had found, wasn't always as peaceful as she had once thought it to be. From time to time the Green Lady and the stallion with fiery hair and burning eyes would come by. There was also the mare with the blue hair, the bossy stallion and their foals... And, most recently, there had been her friend, Kileyo.

Today had seemed like any other day though; quiet with no chance of change in sight... At least, not until she rounded the other side of the lake. She saw movement; a flash of white with something wrapped around its... Neck. A neck! That meant it was not something but someone.

She paused, uncertain as to whether or not she wanted to risk intruding. She had learned the hard way that not all were as pleased with interruptions to their doldrums as she was. She enjoyed entertainment and entertaining while others? Others liked to be left alone.

Her ears flickered as she turned, almost certain that she heard something. She often heard things, of course, not all of them there as much as she would have liked them to be. The world was strange like that and she had found it best to second guess even if it meant appearing odd if others were around when she heard these phantom sounds.

She turned her head slowly to investigate, brow lofting slightly when golden eyes fell upon a small, checkered mare. She smiled, glad to know that, this time, it had not been her imagination. It was always good to know that her true hearing hadn't failed her.

The mare seemed... Strange. Not that she herself had any room to comment on such a thing. There was something about her smile... Something about the way she held herself. She had never seen something like that in a Soquili before. It was... Curious.

Slowly she emerged from the water, shaking herself off while watching the mare. She gave her head a light toss, sending a spray of droplets that shimmered like a dozen tiny rainbows as they were caught by the sun. A smile curved her mouth as she looked to the other mare. "Don't just stand there, darling. Do come over and say hello."

She started slightly as the mare addressed her. She'd been caught. Even worse, she'd been caught gawking. The blue haired mare had told her that gawking was a good way of catching flies in her mouth... She had yet to actually catch any but this was probably just as bad.

She took one uncertain step, almost stumbling before she caught herself. This was... Silly. Very silly. She shouldn't feel this awkward because of a golden stare, no matter how intense it was.

She took a deep breath, trotting towards the other mare only to stop just short of the lake. She smiled brightly; the smile meant to entertain, broad and happy with sparkling blue eyes to complete it. The smile was her greeting; the only form of 'hello' she knew. It had been for quite some time now and it had never failed her before.

Her brow lofted slightly as she awaited the other mare's slow approach. As she stopped to and smiled in front of her she found herself wondering if the checkered mare's approached wasn't the only thing that was slow. She shook her head, trying to dash that thought from her mind. She didn't know this one yet... Perhaps she was just shy.

She paused before the other mare for a moment. Flickering her tail she continued to hold it high as she moved around the other mare, attempting to keep her damp hair from dragging in the mud as she moved. She was sightly taller at the shoulder but not nearly as interesting as herself. Her tail was too short, coloration all wrong... But there was something about her smile. Her smile and her eyes.

Once she was in front of the other mare again she stopped, eyeing her up and down before letting her golden gaze meet the odd mare's pale blue one. "Do you have a name, dear? Something that others call you, assuming you know any others?" She snorted softly, trying not to smile. "... Assuming you can talk?"

As the other mare circled her she tried her best to remain still, not wanting to move for fear that something unpleasant would happen. The only creatures to ever have inspected her like this were Ayatas and Tsisqua... But they usually did so with brushes and they offered treats afterwards. Did this mare have treats?

She doubted that. She doubted it even more when the other stopped before her, looking at her with those eyes again. Her brow furrowed as she stared right back. Was there something wrong?

When the other mare spoke her look softened, a smile lighting up the features of her face once more. She understood those words perfectly and she did know her name. She had, afterall, given it to Kileyo...

"Guli."

"So you do talked." She laughed softly, unable to keep herself from doing so as she graced the young mare with a grin. "Guli, was it? Interesting name... About as interesting as your coat, I'd say. My name is Katarina but you, seemingly one of few words, may6 call me Kat."

She took a step back so that she could better watch the other mare as she spoke to her. Much could be learned about someone from the stance that they took along with the looks that crossed their facial features as things were said. "Do you say anything other than your name, dear? You seem so shy... So unrefined. That is no way for a mare to be."

She listened to the pale mare with bright stockings chatter on. This mare spoke just as much as her sister did! The only difference seemed to be the way that she spoke. She seemed so sure of herself; so much pride in her confidence.

Her brow furrowed once more just before the other mare stopped speaking. This mare... This Kat had said something that she had heard before; something that had been said unkindly. 'That is no way for a mare to be.' Exactly what was a mare supposed to be like and what made this mare an expert above others?

She snorted, stomping her hoof on the ground as her furrowed brow turned into an icey glare. There wasn't anything wrong with her. She was just fine the way she was. Tsisqua and Ayatas seemed to care deeply for her.

But they aren't your kind; aren't your true kin. You weren't fine enough for your mother to keep you...

"What's wrong, dear? Did something I said strike a nerve?" Her brow lofted slightly, a sly smile curving her mouth. "Good. It should have. You should be upset about your current state. You're angry and all you can do is stomp that pretty purple hoof of yours at me."

It was all she could do to keep herself from laughing as the other mare bared her teeth as if trying to say that there were other things she could do; nipping included. She shook her head slowly, clearly disapproving visually even if she was highly amused internally. "Now, now, Guli... Is that any way for a lady to behave?"

She nodded her head, snorting softly as she stomped at the ground once more. Yes, something had struck a nerve. This mare must have known it would. How could others take joy in making others upset?

Her face fell, anger fading completely at the other mare's next words. Ayatas would have tsked at her had she ever caught her storming and stomping about as she had been. She would have chastised her just as the mare was doing.

She frowned, letting her head hang low in a most apologetic manner. This was terrible... Just terrible.
