That shouldn't happen unless you play for a very long time. It could be that you aren't using your mouth right and are spitting too much as a result. Also possible is that you have band around lunchtime and your mouth is already salivating too much to play without getting gross. Something is wrong though. Too much spit isn't just gross; it can plug tone holes and ruin your attempts to play correctly. Maybe consider a few private lessons to make sure you are using good embouchure and posture and maintaining a good horn angle. If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what to say. Maybe try new reeds or a different kind of mouthpiece. Lessons first though, since you're relatively new to playing.
In the meantime, get a good swab - not felt, try whatever brand it is that makes the thin and silky ones. I don't know because I got mine free from working at a refurb shop but the music store near you should know. If they don't have that, get a cloth one like Leblanc makes, just avoid felt as they don't work quite as well.

Yes. our school band is my first period and we play about an hour and my clarinet gets all spitty from the mouthpiece to the bell to the begging part of the upper section. It gets really gross because i lost my cleaning cloth so i have to rinse out my clarrie with warm water every weekend but still.... just saying, your problem is probably playing too long. but then again thats just me. hope this helps!!! biggrin

It may be your.... - Playing too long. - Ate before Playing. - Weak Umbusher.
All Three have happened to me before. I suggest chewing gum, it strenghts you musclues around the mouth and makes for a better Umbusher.

Ewww! I hate when i get spit coming out of my flute! I'll be sitting in band and I sub-conciously hold it vertically instead of horizontally and I end up with spit-spots on my jeans! It's nasty!
