 To say that the day was fine was a bit of a stretch. A haughty wind swept the grasses and brought creeping sensations of change and strangeness and the smell of a faraway storm was in the air. Tayook looked up from grazing to gaze out at the roiling clouds far off in the distant skies. They had only just appeared over the horizon, which meant it would be some time yet before they approached her, but the dank feel of rain had been lingering in the air all day.
Growing up had had little to no effect on Tay, other than the fact that she had in fact grown up in body quite a bit, and perhaps a bit in mind. But she had stayed the same, most often leaving the teepee to go off on her own. She liked it that way, alone and quiet where nothing in the world could bother her. It rather seemed as though her human was getting used to it, as he never made a fuss anymore whenever she left, and she would sometimes go days on end without returning to the teepee. And still she loved to run. There was nothing like a good gallop across a few hills to set her heart soaring into the wind. Looking down at the land spread out below, she would always remember why she loved being alive - the world was a wonderful place.

With a small measure of fustration, Blais watched from the shadows as his mentor and his father argued over which pass to take over the mountains. On one hand, he was glad for the break... neither of the two older stallions looked half as hearty as they did when they first left the teepee to join him on this trek... and neither would admit to needing a break unless something stopped them. But on the other hand; the constant bickering was beginning to wear on his nerves.
After another moment, he snorted loudly to get their attention. "I'm going for a run, I'll be back before nightfall." Neither looked at him, but the white wind Crousader flicked his tail in acknowledgement.
Snorting again, Blais shook out his mane and spun neatly on his haunches; taking off for the plains they had just left.

It might have just been the rumbling thunder in the distance, but Tay's ears flickered as they registered a new sound - a faraway drumming, steady and collected. It was quite unlike the thunder she had always known, but that wasn't to say this sound couldn't be it. She didn't think there would be too many creatures out on a day like this. Even for her, it was only her undying and unconditional love for the world around her that brought to her enough patience to tolerate weather such as the lands were experiencing today.
Her head remained where it was, staring out over at the clouds massing over the land in the distance. Her ears trained on the sound though, and she suddenly realized it had gotten louder and clearer. Closer. It wasn't thunder, that she was sure of. Almost reluctantly, she took her eyes away from the spectacle before her and turned toward the sound, her eyes casting about easily as she searched for the source of the sound.

He reached the flatlands sooner then he had expected; must have been the surge of adrenaline brought on by pent up fustration. Nevertheless the painted stallion could still feel the power in his young muscles, and he knew he could run until his head had cleared... if not long after. Smiling smugly at the thought he picked up the pace and let his mind fall in sync with the drumbeats of his pounding hooves.
There was always something to be said for letting the wind carry your worries, at least for a little while.
Just let me be at peace for this brief time.. I'll pick them up when my mind has cleared.

There was something about the rhythmic thud that reminded her of herself. She knew that sound, that run. It wasn't just like an everyday gallop, no. This was something. She closed her eyes to tune into the sound better. She could feel the gentle thud as if she herself were the runner, her mind lost in the calm steadiness. Yes, she knew this running. Someone was out there seeking calm and peace. She knew it all too well. She had a tendency herself to get worked up or frustrated, and always - always - a run cleared her head better than anything else. She loved this run.
But who was it?

Though his thoughts had drifted away from the present, they had not yet fallen into sync with the here and now. Flickers of memory flashed before his eyes; along with the passing terrain. Memories of his childhood, the haughty looks, sneering smiles, and biting words.
Yes, he was going back to that soon, but was he ready to face them? Was he strong enough too? Was he strong enough to protect his father from them should things go wrong?
The answer came suddenly, and in the form of a large gopher hole. Gathering himself, he lept it at the last second, writhing his body midair to avoid landing in a second. Crousader would have been proud of him; his body had acted on it's own to preserve him and spared his mind only a passing glance.
Of course he was strong enough to protect Flame and face down the elitist elders. Else what had these past few years of training been for?

I am copying and pasting this message to all the threads I frequent and all the RPs I am currently partaking in. I am flying down to Australia tomorrow [Saturday, 23rd] for one week to participate in a competition with our school's orchestra. I won't have any internet access while I'm there. I will be back on the 30th of June.
