-HOW TO PLAY-
Slayer Soulstice is played by four gaians, not including myself. Each player will control one character (Buffy, Willow, Xander or Giles) and I will be handling the monsters for you to fight. Basically, I take the role of ‘GM’ or Game Master like in tabletop Dungeons and Dragons. To attack an opponent roll one 20-sided die while stating what ability that character is trying to perform. (Please keep reading for a list of every character’s abilities!) The number you get determines the effectiveness of the ability. Please note that healing spells can miss and critically hit just like other abilities. The starting formula is as follows (but can change depending on the ability/encounter/gear):
1-4: Attack/spell will miss.
5-19: Attack/spell will hit normally.
20: Attack/spell will crit.Keep in mind that with enemy monsters it's a little different. Monsters have a 100% chance to hit unless Willow has levitate up, then it's 95%. You can decrease this even more once Giles learns the 'Codex of Darkness' ability. Monsters also start out with the same critical hit chance as the gang (5%) but this will raise later on.
TURN ORDER: All players must take turns in the following order:
Willow
Buffy
Xander
Giles
At the end of your character’s post, you also need to tell us their current stats and any negative status condition that they’re under. This helps makes things so much easier for your other allies and for your GM!!!
-Mock Battles-
Here are some example games you can check out to get an idea of how to play. These were test runs we did of the game, so usually someone is playing more than one character, and some of the stats/attacks have changed, but they should give you a general idea of the gameplay.
Fight 1: Submissive Vampire vs. Buffy/Xander/Giles/WillowFight 2: Submissive Vampires vs. Buffy/Willow/Xander/GilesFight 3: Dominant Vampire Vs. Buffy/Willow/Xander/GilesBOSS FIGHT: Ubervamp vs. Buffy/Willow/Xander/GilesBefore a monster starts fighting, I will roll a 20-sided die to see who that monster attack.
1-2: Enemy will attack Xander (10% chance)
3-6: Enemy will attack Willow (20% chance, considered ‘base threat’ as Willow is the only one that doesn’t have a passive ability to increase or decrease the chance an enemy will attack her)
7-12: Enemy will attack Giles (30% chance)
13-20: Enemy will attack Buffy (40% chance)
After every successful encounter the party gets through, each character gets +5mp and +5sp (this does not raise the max hp/mp.) Also, before every boss fight, the party will be healed to max hp/mp/sp. -DID I JUST HEAR A THREAT?-
When your GM gives your party a battle, you'll see something like this:
Vampire (Male) is blocking the way!
300 HP. Difficulty: */*/*
Vampire (Female) jumps out of the shadows!
400 HP. Difficulty: */**/*
Monsters are color-coded to tell you if they're Passive or Aggressive. Passive Monsters will be in Olive Font, Aggressive Monsters will be in Red font. Passive Monsters allow your party to hit them first, aggressive monsters get the first strike.
An enemy’s difficulty level is determined by 3 methods of criteria. The first method is ‘Damage difficulty’ and it represents roughly how much damage the enemy will inflict upon the party. The second criteria is ‘Defense difficulty’ which determines how much defense a monster has, ergo, how long it will take to defeat that monster. The last criteria is ‘Strategic’ and it’s a mixed grab bag that is based on the monster’s special attacks. A monster can not do much damage, and not have much health, but take a strange strategy to defeat that you’ll have to figure out yourself. This also helps to give your party a small clue to be prepared for anything.
I will always state the difficulty levels of every new monster your party encounters, but I will only do it once. The difficulty level will be listed in 3 categories from left to right: Attack Difficulty, Defense Difficulty and Strategic Difficulty.
More stars means a higher difficulty level in that branch. EXAMPLE: Difficulty: */*/*
-LvLing up!-
Your character will lvl up after your team defeats a boss from the world. The amount you lvl up varies and is not that linear. For example completing the first World will earn you four levels, not just one. (Every world will have one thread each) Characters that are dead after a battle will still lvl up.
All bosses have a 25% chance to drop something really good for your own character. You can do a dungeon multiple times to try and get the item you want but you will not gain another level. If you get an item that you already have, you can also sell it for cash! (Please see the:
The Magic Box for more information.)
1-5: Xander will get a special item
6-10: Willow will get a special item
11-15: Giles will get a special item
16-20: Buffy will get a special item
