He had been thinking... Thinking as he worked on regaining his strength and recovering from the bruises that Nostalgia hadn't healed. He'd insisted that she leave some of them alone if only so that he could learn from them. The bruises left behind spoke of how the cursed had attacked... She had taken him to the brink of death but she hadn't carried him over that edge. Why?

Of course, the cursed wasn't the only thing that he had thought of. There was the case of the missing mare... The spritely little thing that had lead him to the stream. Was she a figment of his imagination or was she real? Did the Soquili have fairy folk just as the two-leggers did?

Sighing he stopped by a small pond, dipping his nose down to peer at his reflection for a moment before taking a slow sip. He wasn't crazy... He hadn't hit his head upon falling. She had to have been real.

Fortune was just busy being Fortune - the freedom novelty had eventually worn off (As nothing truly stuck to the mare for too long) and she was now just wandering around quite boredly. What was a mare to do? She was about to sigh dramatically and start ranting about the inability to find something to do when a familiar body nearby caught her attention and a smile scrolled across her face - wide and beaming. She knew him!

"DRAVEN!" she called, skipping up behind him with her tail twitching lightly behind her. It had been so long since she'd seen her precious friend, her racing buddy. Wasn't it when Kileyo was a foal? Oh, her boy was all grown up now and handsome. Taller than her, by a long shot too.

Lost in thought and then... His name. He started, turning with wide eyes only to soon find himself smiling. "Ah, if it isn't the Lady Fortune." He chuckled as he gave her a quick eye-over to make sure that she was alright. With everything that had happened lately one could never be too certain. "I trust all is well with you, my friend?"

"Life is wonderful, except when you're bored," she said, a small frown touching. However, it didn't stay long and soon a bright, beaming smile was sent his way, "Killy's all grown up. No longer a mother!" Well, she was a mother - she'd always be a mother. But no more responsibility! Of course that meant she saw Safi left since she had no reason to stay there any longer but that was all right. "And how are you my handsome friend?"

"Ah, you will always be a mother in your heart, Fortune. That isn't something that ever leaves, even when the children move on." He nodded slowly as he let a soft smile curve his lips. "I'm doing..." He paused for a moment, trying not to laugh. "I'm doing far better now than I was this time last week. I certainly hope that you've been staying out of trouble as it seems like I have been the one getting into it."

"Well, I meant motherly duties, I guess," she said, tilting her head to the side. She was about to tag him and say IT and then take off running when he said something about getting into trouble. A frown was given and she leaned in to nose at him affectionately, "What kind of trouble, Draven? Are you all right?"

Seriousness masked over her - something that didn't often happen.

It was probably a good thing that she hadn't tagged him before running off. He would have hated to disappoint her with such a sorry chase only to declare her the winner of the game. "I am fine, Fortune." He returned the gentle nose, smiling softly. "At least, I am now that I know everyone is alright. One of the Cursed was roaming the plains; a Skinwalker. I know you are a carefree spirit that's perfectly capable of carring for herself, but I want you to be careful at night, Fortune."
PostPosted: Sun Jun 03, 2007 11:51 am

Blink. Blink. "Did you get into it with a skinwalker?" Fortune looked at him incredulously, eyes wide and absolute...surprise in them. How could he think he could go against a skinwalker? How was he not DEAD? All acts of playfulness completely melted away and she just stared.

The comment about her being careful was disregarded for now. Right now, she wanted to hear what Draven had gotten himself into and her eyes were furiously checking over his body a moment later to make sure he wasn't missing anything vital.

He stepped aside carefully as she examined him, much as Nostalgia kept doing from time to time as if she were going to get the foals to pin him to the ground while she attempted to heal him completely. There were no traces of bites, slashes or scrapes on his hide; at least not ones that could be seen against his black coat. Nostalgia had healed his flesh perfectly and his soft hair had already started growing back to fill in his coat. As it was, he thanked the spirits that Fortune could not see bruises.

"Two mares, one far younger than the other, were caught out on the plains by the cursed... I..." He coughed, trying not to feel so sheepish beneath her gaze. "... Kept the cursed distracted while they got away."

"While that was very noble of you, I'd rather not have you die on me." Fortune frowned deeply as she looked at him and sighed, "You're one of my few close friends, Draven. Please be careful and don't make me worry?" The softness in her voice was something that Fortune hadn't really...ever used. With Safi, she was her normal, silly self. With her son, she was a mixture of it and a faux disciplinarian at times (faux, because she completely sucked at it), but with Draven he saw both sides - serious and playful.

Yes, he was special.

"It takes more than just an encounter with one of the cursed to end my life, Fortune." He nodded slowly as he leaned towards her, giving her neck a nudge with his nose to reassure her. "Afterall, if I died who would keep an eye on you, Miss Trouble?" His brow lofted slightly as he attempted to drag a smile out of her.

If that didn't work, perhaps changing the conversation would... "Do you believe in fairies, Fortune?"
PostPosted: Mon Jun 04, 2007 4:14 pm

"Mmph, you say that as if I'm a foal that needs watching," she scoffed, shaking her head and giving a soft laugh. It wasn't a smile, but it was something cheerful so his attempt didn't all together fail. She perked, though, at the question of fairies.

"Fairies? Well, I've seen some tiny little horses in my time, frolicking through the grasses and flowers like they own them with their butterfly like wings so I guess I do. Don't know what they're called - never talked to one. Why?"

"You? A foal?" He laughed. "Never a foal again, Fortune, but impish. Imps need eyes upon them at all times, you know." He nodded slowly as he stepped away from her, heading back towards the pond to take a sip of water. He eyed his reflection for a moment after touching his muzzle to the surface, turning to look at Fortune once more.

"So I am not the only one who has seen them? Wonderful. I can tell Nostalgia that she can stop fretting about the state of my head." He snorted softly as he gave his head a light toss. "I saw one. Such a tiny creature..."
PostPosted: Mon Jun 04, 2007 5:04 pm

"Impish eh? I can deal with that I suppose." Silly grin was sent his way and her eyes lit up. Oh she adored her friend so very much. So easy to go from serious to playful again. Good thing, too. She hated being all somber and serious when she didn't have to!

"Oh, I wouldn't be so sure about that. You're quite crazy, you know, fairies or not." A mischievous smile touched and she went toward the water to grab a sip herself. Boredom was hard work.

"Crazy?" His brow lofted slightly as he looked to the mare. "Now, why would you say something like that, Fortune? There is a difference between duty and insanity, you know." He nodded slowly. He'd always known that. The herd came first and, when the herd wasn't around, it was protect those unable to protect themselves.
