I Say!
I thought it may be useful to pull together some of the various steampunk-esque phrases, as well as their abbreviations, you may see on the nets and in this guild. This took me some time to come up with, so I do hope people use it.
Included in some are definitions.
Below is also a list of various appropriate emotes for you to use.
Have fun!

~ This list has been created and compiled by Vanghar, with contributions by various members of the guild.

Anachronyms!

NB: Many short phrases, such as I Say!, have abbreviations included. However, because of they only have two words the use of such abbreviations is uncommon. They are included here mainly for reference.

BTB - By The Bye - a more steampunk version of By The Way
BTC! - By The Cogs! - Should you steampunk interest be religious wink (I love this phrase)
BJ! - By Jove! - an exclamation of surprise or amazement
GL - Good Lady
GS - Good Sir
GSOC - Good Show Old Chap!
HH! - Hear, Hear!
HP - How Peculiar
IS! - I Say!
JG - Jolly Good!
OB - Old Bean
QS - Quite So
VF - Very Flash
WAA - We Are Amused
WANA - We Are Not Amused - (which Queen Vic. did not say.)
WP - Well Played
WWW - What What What

Words etc.

cheers - casual statement of thanks (or occasionally good-bye)
cheerio - casual good-bye
egad! - exclamation of surprise.
Fortnight - Two Weeks - (a normal word in the UK, but not the US)
jest - a joke (e.g. 'I jest') or when something is done in a jocular manner (e.g. 'twas only in jest')
jocular - humerous
'tis - It Is
toodle-pip! - good-bye
'twas - It Was
spiffy - good and 'shiny'
spiffing - when something is spiffy

Emotes!

If you can think of any more, feel free to post them below and they will be added to the list.

TELEGRAM

FROM Vanghar
TO Guild

I have created this post to show what a truely steampunk post woud look like STOP As you can see, the main feature is replacing full stops with the word STOP STOP You will also notice the heading above STOP Also at the end of the message one must place the word END STOP This will give you thread a rather spiffy steampunk feel to it STOP But it can get a bit annoying to do all the time STOP One can type everything in capitals if one wishes although this is not necessary STOP Punctuation is also often kept to a minimum if there is any at all STOP

Good sir, I have thought of one that you may have missed, that of GS (guess what it means), or alternatively GL is you are in the addressing of someone of the female persuasion.

I dislike the use of abbreviations. Abounding analogues can be applied to an abstract acronym, so adjourning, it means absolutely aught. My philosophy is to say what you mean, if you mean what you say. Please excuse the old adage.

Well, one can both dislike and use them. On msn for example, speed of typing is quite important if you don't want to miss out your friends next message, and then they think that you're replying to that and it just gets all confusing. Instead its replaced by the confusion of what the abbreviations mean...*sighs* The world can never be perfect. Any attempts to make it so only ever make it worse.

The simple fact of the matter is that some people like to use them and other's don't.
Bearing that in mind, I made this list so that the people who liked them could use them; and those that didn't could look up any they were unsure about.

Good points, the both of you. I sometimes forget that each person is entitled to one's own opinion, and I need reminding of it. I am gravely remorseful if I have offended anyone by my lack of insight. Otherwise, I forgot to mention, those emotional effigies are positively grand.

O don't worry, all you stated was your own opinion. One fair in its own right and for anyone to go on about how closed minded or whatever for saying it would be pure hypocrisy. Stop worrying, you apologise too much (no offence of course)

Haha! I apologize for apologizing too often! I jest. It comes by habit to me, I'm afraid.

My cousin used an alternate explative with her WOW gnome inventor that I always felt was rather steam punk so I stole it from her.
