Life was good. He had air in his lungs, the wind on his back, and a place to rest when times got rough. It couldn't get any better, unless he could find more of his kind and gather up a herd to lead. This land needed strong Winds to protect one another, but he hadn't seen hide, hair, or feather of any! Were they all hiding?
And then there was that grounded mare he had met. That red beast irritated beyond belief. And to think she was the mate of his friend Tawali! The nerve! A grounded to bear the blessing of possible wings? It was unheard of from where he came from, but his mother had tried to teach him that they were to watch over those grounded, dumber Soquili.
He flew down low over the trees and letting his hooves drag a bit in the leaves. If felt good to be free and on his own. No more taking orders from the alpha or his father. No more worries. He was free to do as he wished.
The trees stopped and formed a large circle around a clear, green patch of grass. His stomach rumbled, reminding him that he hadn't eaten anything since early this morning. He landed on the ground, still moving at a fast trot before stopping and leaning his head to graze on the moist grass. Yes. This was the life.

Sighing softly Lovey gazed around the empty meadow with the soft sadness that only a mother could truly feel. Well, a good father probably could feel it as well. Since a bad mother probably didn’t feel much of anything when they were wasting their lives away. Waitaminute, when did I become a philosopher? Giggling quietly for a moment or two Lovey walked to the edge of the clearing to stand in the shade of a tree and to think.
It had been awhile since she had spent time with anybody that was much older than ‘Naci or the occasional rabbit that came to talk to her and her daughter. What a dull life to be leading at such a young age! Not that she’d trade it for anything. Since the beginning of her time as a mother she’d loved very second of it… Just.. Did it have to take so much energy?
Whoah wait what? Blinking in more than a bit of shock a large big-haired black and white stallion landed in her clearing. Okay, once again.. Not hers but she had to have a bit of possessiveness in her somewhere. Should she go speak to him?
Yes.. Yes she should. ‘Naci would come home from her “sneaking out” sometime later and if he meant harm then she’d fight to get the stallion to leave or find another way to make sure her daughter didn’t come to harm. “Hello there…” Oh yeah.. That probably had him shaking in his hooves. Bah! Lovey strode forward with as much purpose as she ever had, her blue-purple mane bouncing behind her.

He looked up from his meal and was struck speechless. She seemed like such the vision to be walking gracefully from the trees, her fur shining from the sun, showing the purple tint to her pelt. Her mane and tail sparkled. And her eyes. They were green.
He didn't noticed his mouth was hanging open until his lips and tongue grew slightly dry. He snapped it shut with a click and then finally noticed that she didn't have any wings. Pity. He'd still be able to protect her well, though.
She had spoken to him, he had just recalled and there he was, standing like a dolt with his mouth hanging open. He straightened his composure and walk slowly towards her, a smile on his muzzle and a sparkle in his two-tone eyes. "Hello there, yourself lady," he said with a coy wink.

Lovey had been walkings towards the unusual colored stallion with more than a little sense of purpose. She had to keep her family safe and if it took more than a bit of courage than she'd just have to scrape it up from somewhere deep beneath her hair. The stallion was eyeing her like she was a piece of candy and he had a nickle. Ugh.
... His mouth was hanging open too? Now, several stallions had found her pretty enough but wasn't this just borderline ridiculous? Coming to a halt about 10 feet from the stallion with her neck arched proudly and her stance stacked and elongated like a Morgan horse, Lovey simply watchedh im.
A wink... and a smile? Oh lord, it was like being in the pages of an overly cheasy dime-store novel that a settle had given one of the indian women. Of course, learning to read that novel had taken ages but.. ack! Not another side-trip, "Young lady? I'd hardly call myself that but hello indeed... Your name, if you would be so kind?"

He continued towards her, picking his pace up as high as he could as he walked and flexed out his wings so they were more noticeable. Back home, all the mares wanted him, he was quite the catch there, but uncatchable. "I apologize for my er... rude behavior. I have never seen one so fine as yourself, but I've been flying for months away from company."
He put a hoof forward and bowed his head down, showing very well the strength he had in his body. "My name is Wild Wind and what may I call you, Miss," he said trailing off at the end. She was indeed quite the sight.

Lovey couldn't decide whether she wanted to giggle at the stallion or wrinkle her nose. She was used to being fawned over a bit, but not to the point where a mouth would hang open. Perhaps she'd correct the stallion just a bit before continuing on in the conversation. She had questions to ask after all. "Your behavior doesn't need apologized for, but I must say that I'm not in need of fawning. My looks aren't that peculiar or amazing."
A small bob of her head only managed to bring the floofy mane of purple-blue into her eyes, forcing Lovey to flip it back again, "I'm Lovey Dovey.. but by all things holy I hope you don't call me that.. I prefer to go just by Lovey." Would he understand that? Or did he like being called Wild and Wind?

He rolled her name off his tongue, as if testing out a new language. "Lovey. It's quite a fitting name and you are most peculiar. I have never met a mare with such a glow about her. You behave as if you reign these lands."
He looked over the grounds here, his mismatched eyes darting everywhere to take it all in. This would not do the herd any good. No place to protect the foals or pregnant mares. This would not do at all.

This, Wild Wind, seemed a nice enoughs tallion if not a bit confused about what was good to say and what wasn't good to say to mares. "Thank you, I'm glad you like my name as there's not much to do if you didn't." Which was true, she wasn't being snippy with the stallion just being honest. One stallion awhile ago hadn't liked her name.. What had happened to him?
His eyes seemed to be all over the place.. Was he mentally ill? Now now, that wasn't a very nice thought to have over someone who hadn't been mean or rude to her... "Hm.. So what are you doing in this area?"

He offered a warm smile, bringing his eyes back to her and drinking in the way she looked. She was indeed a beautiful mare, but he hated grounded and knew he would never want a family with one. They would be easily left behind if there was real danger.
But he focused on her question, chewing it over in his mind. "Just looking for a safe place to start a herd." It was a simple answer, one he didn't feel needed to be explained. "Why are you out here alone, miss?"

Lovey felt that the stallion perhaps was more than a little bit daft in the head. She'd just have to be careful not to hurt his feelings too much or to contradict too much of what he said. It'd certainly be a lesson in patience and in holding her tonge.
"Oh.." Why did one want to start a herd? She had been alone for a month before Caelen came around.. then the basket had arrived.. then.. Well, all of it was a rather long story and now she was adopted into a herd with what seemed like over twenty members to play among, "Why am I alone? Well.. because I choose to be."

"You should know that these lands aren't always safe. Isn't there one near by who protects you? You have to have someone who's able to do that, or at least somewhere to run and hide too," he spoke slowly, dragging out each word as if was delivering is on stage before an audience.
He had even moved slowly beside her, looking at her over his shoulder with each step he took. Even from this angle she was striking and he took his time to look her over.

One nearby to protect her? Why the very idea of it made Lovey want to just about flinch. Instead she smiled lazily and waited for him to finish his speech before giving him an answer. After all, speaking brokenly and interrupting were rather rude. “I have myself, and that has always been rather helpful, you know?”
Part of her wanted to blush because he was rather blatantly looking her over, the other wanted to snort indignantly. A deep breath set her to rights and she sent him a smile, lazy and friendly.. But not really “inviting.”

He huffed and spread his wings in a menacing manner. "Ridiculous thinking to feel you can protect yourself." He looked up at the sky and smiled warmly as he folded his wings once more. He felt that she was too delicate of a thing to be able to defend herself should wolves or a puma decided to eat her. But that was the narrow mind of the Grounded he had come to understand.
"Then if you feel you are perfectly capable on your own, then there is no need for me to stick around. After all, it's not my job to protect you. That should be the job of your mate, if you had one."

Lovey had no idea where this guy was getting off telling her that she wouldn’t be able to take care of herself. Sure, she couldn’t fly.. But wasn’t that what a coward would do to get away? If someone decided to attack her then hooves and teeth would come into play along with some possible dirty tricks. Her neon green eyes looked up at him with a bit of sharpness before softening.
He couldn’t help what he believed after all. “I do not have a mate either.. And you do not have to stick around Wild Wind.. Just having company is the only reason any one comes around. Well that and my four daughters.. It’s just us five when they aren’t off on their own.”
