So, yeah. I sign up for my first sprint-distance triathlon tomorrow morning. Sportspectrum's River Cities Triathlon. I've done kids' races, but I've been so tied up in cross country for the past few years, that I haven't had the time to swim and bike. Well, break out the swim shampoo and the lovely padded bike shorts, 'cause I'm back! Uhh... back from being horrid in the swim, decent in the bike, but really good in the run.

Look for me in the results. I'll be the girl who's nearly last out of the water, and nearly first in run times. Like most good triathletes, I'm a really, really bad swimmer. And bike times? Who knows. I'll be on a road bike, rather than my former clunky crappy mountain bike. Yay hand-me-downs! Heh, my mom got a tri bike, I get the old road bike.

Tomorrow I've a long run to do. Ugh. Only crappy thing about late-season races-- Texas summers really, really suck for training.

And, by the way, an Ironman triathlon is a 2.4 mile open water swim, a 124 (?) mile bike and a 26.2 mile run (a.k.a. a marathon).

I was JV 'cause my coach had something against the fact that I get stress fractures more often than is normal. She's like "I don't want you to be injured if a big race comes up and we have nobody to replace you." So, long story short, I only race two miles. 'Cause I'm a girl. That gets injured.

Two mile time's 12:13, though. Which is really a varsity time... I hate my coach. That's why I quit. I was sick of being shoved down to JV when I was the third-fastest runner on our team.

Jack got injured last year... He busted his knee... He was a sophomore varsity... He ended up missing part of the season. After he got back into shape he busted it again at either regionals or states, but on the last leg of the last race. I think the coaches are to blame with alot of injuries because of their training. The doctor jack saw basically said it was because he was only training going one way around the track. You're supposed to train evenly. If you run 10 times clockwise, you should run 10 times counter clockwise so that you're not just working out one side of your knee.
I personally have weak ankles, so I used to sprain mine all the time. I was never a runner.. not very athletic... more of a theatre geek in school...

Yeah, tracks cause a lot of problems. It's the speedwork that wreaks havoc with my bones. I don't know what it is, but I can never get enough calcium. The doctor had me up to like... triple the recommended dosage of calcium because it wasn't getting to my bones properly. Which not only made me get more stress fractures, but it made them last longer, too. Took me a long time to get over one. And I had three within two years.

Never sprained an ankle, though. My wrists aren't so lucky. Fractured one once tripping over a pinecone. The doctor putting the cast on thought that pretty funny. I wasn't nearly so amused. Sprained the same one falling down the stairs. It was the fault of a book; it slipped out from under my foot when I accidentally stepped on it.

I'm really, really susceptible to falling down?

Aah, but I do. Frequently. Unfortunately. Tripping accounts for a good ninety percent of the bruises on my arms and shins. Running into stuff when I don't have my glasses or contacts accounts for the other ten percent. I'm really, really blind...

Lol, it was States, but I'm cool now, runnibg my fastest
My Two mile time is not my strength, although I did PR with a 11:20 this year...800 I got a 2:16, 400 I got a 60 (Not that good, I need to work a bit), Three Mile is my specialty, I got a 19:27 last year, I hope to improve this year, it being my Senior year.

Injuries are the worst, they put you out for so long and then you try to catch up again, it is difficult. But the truly strong are the ones who get back up when they fall Bacillus, so consider yourself among them.

Good luck with that. I'm actually thinking of going back to Tae Kwan Do. My parents discourage it (never got why), but I really enjoy it. Even if I do suck at sparring in competitions 'cause in my age bracket, I'm against some really big people. And I'm really small...
