okay please can anyone tell me exactly how old youko is or how many tails he has. I've heard he has 5 tails 7 and 9. i cant figure how old he is either 200 300 or older does any one know?

I believe he's a little over a thousand years old. In the anime they say 300, and then take it back later and say 1000; although there's a bit of a controversy over that since kitsune are supposed to return to the rice god Inari once they're 1000 years old (unless I'm remembering totally wrong).
As for his tails, my online search turns up the info that Youko had 5 when he "died". I know he's not the most powerful kitsune ever, which would mean he'd have nine; nine is the highest number a kitsune can have, and as uber-powerful as he is, he's not quite top-rung.

Possibly, given that I believe his power rating did go up, but since he's not a full-blooded kitsune anymore I'm not really sure how that would work.
Then again, how the tail system works for youko is also unknown, assuming youko doesn't necessarily equal kitsune in all aspects. o.o

Kitsune gain tails over years not tails over power. Although the tails do represent the power of the fox, I do not think that just because he had a power boost, he would get another tail. More then likely he wasn't tapping into the full power of his tails and was suddenly forced to, or could, beause of his anger. I highly doubt he would gain more tails. Then agian, I'm no expert on Kitsune Ledgends or Japanese Myths.

I believe he had five tales when he was in full fox form, but when he's in his human/fox hybrid, I can only remember one. ^^'
As for his age, some people say 800, some people think he's only 300 or so. I've always thought he was 300, but I'm not sure now. The real answer is: VERY FREAKING OLD.
Also, I'm not sure where you guys are getting your Kitsune information, but if it's from something like Naruto, or a source outside Yu Yu Hakusho, it can't ethically apply to Yu Yu Hakusho characters. The author created his own world, and so the rules of other worlds (such as Naruto) don't necessarily apply. So, foxes might not grow new tales in his story. Plus, if the basis for this information isn't in Yu Yu Hakusho we could all debate it for hours on end and never come to a real conclusion since we're not on the same grounds.
On that note, if you are getting your info from a reliable source planted in YYH, can you link me?
