Ive heard that they came from so many different things so many different styles of music,but personally I think they are a mutation of death rock and punk.

Current emo "culture" is based mainly around the later punk scene, death metal scene, and goth scene. It's a perverse mix of multiple subs.

emo got lost and can't find it's way home. it seems every punk-pop band in existence is labeled emo now.
^_^ i'm so happy. i got paid yesterday and bought some cds.

kenskea later punk yeah but Ive never seen a emo listen to death metal. Down Kona town there are a bunch of emo wanna be metal heads that try to listen to it. But all they do is listen to mainstream s**t like Cradle of Filth. I think Dani Filth should go die. Preferably in an ironic religious death.

kenskea later punk yeah but Ive never seen a emo listen to death metal. well, peopele are allowed to listen to different types of music arn't they? i listen to a lil of everything. (except country and rap)

Lol. My friend is such a Nu-Metaller. His favorite band is Slipknot (which I introduced him to) and he loves a bunch of Nu-Metal acts like Mushroomhead and trapt. And every time I call Slipknot Nu-metal he flips out. I told him just because they are Nu-metal doesnt make them any less ******** awesome.
I know this dude named Shaun, he's all into ICP and Dark Lotus things like that, the only metal he has is CoF. It's sad because he's really ******** cool but likes that kind of s**t.
