This wasn't our team's fault or anything, it's just that, at the West Coast Dance Explosion competition this year in Portland, I was in a routine, where the music just stopped. We were about to double, but the music stopped. Luckily, my entire team froze and we ended up beating the other team in that division. It was scary, especially for our first MAJOR competition that year. We've just been kind of performing and games and stuff so it was basically, "OMG!"
Anything like this ever happen? Stage fright got you? You forgot the moves? The music just went kaplut? Someone ran into you causing you to fall over? Have you ever tripped while you were in this huge turning sequence? Have you ever totally, just s-crewed up - in front and center? TELL ME! I want to hear about them and how you dealt. After the competition, I so, want to hear. smile

On a marble floor, in a museum, with live jazz band, in a modern piece that was just running around frantically for the first half, the problem was that the floor was extremely slippery. I almost fell down a few times, but the scariest thing was I had to do crazy lifts.
Someone had cleaned the marble floor with a “Swiffer sweeper”. scream crying gonk

then 2 years ago.. a girl was doing a jackcult leap and her supporting leg slipped and she was like 3 inches from falling into the band pit which is about 9-10 feet down

OMG - mortifying, awful, but very interesting! Now, I'm relieved that the music stopped instead of something ELSE. 'Course, the music not stopping would've been good too.

One year, the front line of our hip hop class completely forgot the start of our dance.
We freestyled till we remembered.

It was our first competition and we were doing our pom routine and the team looked like we hadn't practiced 2 hours a day for 7 months.... two girls collided into each other during a transition. one girl lost her pom and it was thrown across the otherside of the flood. one girl fell, one got sick just before (or after...i forgot) we went on to perform. out spacing was messed up, and few people hit their counts correctly....and we only came back with like 3 awards and those were for officer routines and i think our team jazz or military >.< that was the worst compeition that i'd gone too...

Well, once during a competition I was doing my slipjig. I knew the stage was pretty slippery, but I figured I'd be able to handle it. Anyway, long story short, I fell down halfway through my first step. I fell down, twisted my ankle, and landed on my butt (to tell the truth, at the time I was just worried about my solo dress...). The music stopped completely and the other girl was really worried about me. So, the rest of the competitors went and did the treble jig, hornpipe and so on. Once my ankle felt a little better, they had me and the other girl do our slipjigs from the beginning of the first step. I still managed to get first!

Ooooh...once during a performance, we were in a leap sequence and the floor wasn't big enough so my friend and I hit each other. It was funny, and we got second against like high schoolers so yay us. smile We started cracking up in the middle of the routine though. I was watching the DVD later and I think you can hear us laughing. Not good, but whatever!

Gross, but really funny. What happened after that? Did they have to pause the recital and get it cleaned up or something? Wow...normal body functions causing such enormous problems. lol Right? smile Exactly how old is really little?

I have another one! Not quite as mortifying but random. At another festival, I was sitting with my friend, and we were watching a dance section. He turned to me and was all, 'don't you think it's stupid when people curtsey at one side of the stage and then go running madly off to get to the other side?' I was all 'yeh it's so stupid!' So there I am on the stage, I had just danced the solo mentioned above but a year later, with a new tutu, and it went really well. i finished slightly nearer one side of the stage than usual but it was okay. i finished in a kneeling position, so i got up and curtseyed and then with a panic realised it was easier for me to run to the wings furthest away from me. So i started to run. And then his voice echoed in my head..so i span in mid-run, tripped on my face, picked myself and just got straight off there!
eeeeeek.
xx
