The morning had come and gone, and it was afternoon. The hottest part of the day, and the mare was parched. She hated being out at this time of day- it was a time for napping, and relaxing. Not for life. She moved through the tall grasses, feeling almost limp with sun and veil, and all her hair. Oh well though... the water was nearby, and she was not below finding a tree and a nice pool of water and just wallowing there until dark. Heat made her lazy.

Her bracelets jangled, and a rabbit darted across her path, startled. She almost tripped in her veil, blinking foolishly after the frightened rabbit- who was snapped up by the hungry fox. Foolish little rabbit, startled right into the jaws of death. She couldn't summon up any pity. You needed to think faster than that.

As she neared the pool, a familiar figure came into her line of vision. Skin as pale as her own, and hair as dark. "Milord Mozenrath." her voice was quiet, warm. "A pleasant surprise to see you here."

She inclined her head, agreeing with the stallion. "Indeed. I'd say it's been several moons since we met. How have your plans been coming along? I seem to recall you commenting that they would be long in coming." she bent her head, dipping her nose into the water and taking a light drink. Not too fast, or she'd become ill. The heat of the veil coveringe her nose made it hard enough to breathe. With the veil wet, it made the air around her nose cooler, and she could breathe more deeply.

Looking over the stallion, though, she could only imagine how painfully hot he himself must be. He was dark in colour, and thus the sun would soak into him rather than reflect off as it did with herself. Thus it was not completely for her own satisfaction that her next question was asked. "Would you perhaps, sir, care to walk down the way with me a bit? There is a nice, shady spot of trees, that rests right next to the water, where we could perhaps enjoy each other's company in more of a comfortable locale?"

After all... It simply wouldn't do for either of them to get sunstroke from standing still in the sun next to the river, when they could be relaxing under the cool shade of a tree.

She kept her tongue in cheek, so she wouldn't say something back that would provoke a fight- especially not when it was likely he'd win. Too old to be chasing fairytales? She sniffed, and cast a disapproving (and mildly insulted) glare out of the corner of her eye. One was NEVER too old to go journeying in the pursuit of new star-stories, or fairytales, or knowledge. "That sounds pleasant. Just lying around and doing nothing until you die. Sounds fulfilling." she couldn't keep a slight note of mockery out of her voice, and blinked at herself.

She turned, starting down the way slowly, so that he could come up next to her. "And indeed. I should think it is going to be a warm summer. With any luck though, it may be wet. That should cool it down a bit, don't you think?" her head tilted, and she smiled faintly. She had met so few people, and so far between... it was nice to see a familiar face. "It has been a while since I have enjoyed the company of another. You rarely find me up at this time of day. So this was a pleasant reward for breaking my own tedium."

She smiled. "I'm not offended too badly." she sniffed though, nose going up in the air almost mocking herself. "And who would want to sit down and wait for it? Chase it down, and make it share it's knowledge!" she winked lightly, then pranced up a few steps, almost embarassed by her attempt at a friendly gesture. She wasn't used to trying to be lighthearted, but a familiar face was just so nice... "And I can only seek so many stories. The well here is running a bit dry in regards to local folklore. Perhaps I should approach one of the soquili from the other lands, see what they have to offer." she nodded her head, almost decisively. "I have been... taking your advice. You told me to try living life for myself." She glanced at him, sidelong. "I can't necessarily say I've been doing too well, but I found it wise advice. So I'm trying."

She nodded, enthusiastic, turning to wait for the stallion. "Indeed. And I have been trying with some unique results. Instead of being AVOIDED by my companions, they have actually embraced me into their little family, and actually come to ask me for stories, sometimes." she seemed genuinely surprised by the development. She was very earnest- a change from how she had been when they first met, quiet, almost withdrawn, hiding behind fairytales. Still a story-teller at heart, she would be just as content to sit on him and chatter in his ear, but now she was concerned with more than telling a proper story.

She nodded. "Very true. And sometimes they get very silly, and I don't like them enough to want to tell them stories anyway." Her voice was calming, the initial rush of chattering excitement waning. She stepped forward, continuing alongside the stallion in silence, relaxed. It was pleasant. She didn't feel like she had to talk to him, either. Conversation would come as it would. For now, she'd enjoy the company.

The wind picked up, a brief burst, sending her veil flying. It hadn't been put on very well by the human this morning, it appeared. She made a startled noise and took off after it. Her tail was still tied, but her mane was whipping everywhere. How annoying!

The veil seemed to be taunting them. Or maybe it was the wind. Luckily, the breeze was starting to die down, and it was falling slightly, more within reach. Scherazade panted. She hated running. But she needed back that veil! She heard more than saw Mozenrath pull up beside her, and then ahead of her. He would likely reach that taunting piece of cloth before she would- and grateful she was that the stallion had so readily jumped in to help her chase down her errant decoration.
