Hands hidden in her pockets, Nara waited for someone to answer the door to an apartment building. It had been another one of those narrow down as she went jobs, though this time her partner was trying several doors down.
The scroll was definatly on the floor, but which apartment. Trying hard not to itch, Nara fervently hoped this was the one.

Kris was busy trying to put on a new pair of white socks as the doorbell rang; the noise was ear splittingly painful and seemed to dwell inside her bedroom for a few seconds longer than normal. Mumbling under her breath at the immense racket it was causing she sought out finishing the sock escapade at a later time and point, now she had to go fiddle with the door and see who was there. Walking past the small kitchen table and living room furniture the young woman’s bare feet shuffled lightly on the carpets. With soft fingers placed around the doorknob ever so gently, not turning a muscle in her arm Kris peeked through the peep hole on her door. Someone, a young woman with a odd sense of urgency or irritation was standing in front of her doorway. Lifting an eyebrow she unlatched the bolt lock and opened the door only partially with her other foot cocked sideways behind the door to make sure it didn’t budge.
“ Hello? Can, I help you with something? ”
Her voice was a questioning tone, not angry or upset but a rather confused set of sounds, not that it wasn’t to be expected. She eyed the woman’s placement before her and considered any lingering thoughts of her being dangerous was far from the truth. This woman seemed high class, carried herself well and seemed determined, for what Kris couldn’t understand.
‘Maybe she want’s directions or somethin’…’
She thought to herself while awaiting a response from the woman.

Nara plastered a polite smile on her face. "Yes, I'm Nara with the Gaian branch of the Royal Library of Alexandria. My partner and I are researching the location of several scrolls deemed to be lost during the destruction of the original library. According to our research," the woman smiled slightly at that, "we believe the scroll to have been recently found in this area." She paused and looked intently at Kris. "Have you seen it?"

Looking for a second at the woman's, Nara's insistant smile Kris found it rather confusing exactly what she was so outwardly delighted about until she had mentioned a scroll. Instantly the young woman's mind diverted to the previous day's events and the scroll she had returned home with; had this scroll really belonged to someone? It was only right to give it back then right? After all, what were the chances it was worth anything if it'd been in a library, most books didn't cost much and you could find rolled up pieces of old paper at any old woman's street sales anyways. Twirling her pointer finger through her hair for a moment to act as though she was busy in thought for a few more seconds she nodded and stepped back into the apartment to open the door wider for Nara.
"Yes, I found a scroll while I was out on a jog just yesturday. I'm sorry, I didn't know it belonged to anyone."
Sliding a small wooden wedge under the door with her bare foot Kris winced at the cold metal edge as she touched it with her skin before looking back at Nara.
"Here, I'll go grab it for you."
The young woman's slender figure disappeared quickly into one of the back rooms only to appear seconds later with the scroll still inside it's container. She smiled and presented it out to the woman akwardly reaching her hand out with it grasping it loosely and talking as she got closer,
"Here. Still in one piece and in good shape."

As the woman dissapeared Nara gestured frantically for her partner before taking a step or two inside. As the woman was gone, the relic glanced around the apartment, noting a place or two where the unsealing could work.
Kris's return was a bit of a startlement. "Hey!" came the startled response, rather automatically. A bit of a nervous laugh as she clenched her hands in her pockets. "Actually... Could you possibly open that somewhere. I don't really want to ruin it if it's not the one we're looking for."
The lies came so easily now. Bluffing her way into and out of situations was second nature. Though.. given what she found out about Nate.. Perhaps she'd better change that policy.

"Uh,..yes...yes sure."
Nodding at Nara the young woman's hands held the container tighter and twisted ever so slightly, just enough to here a tiny crunch telling her she'd hit the end. Kris wasn't overly sure why it was that the strangers weren't capable of openning the container, or maybe it was they just didn't feel like giving the effort, either way made no difference to her. It wasn't even her property technically, but if it did infact come to be it wasn't Nara's either Kris started to think more strongly about selling the object and the scroll it held inside, afterall what's better than a bit of extra change for a trip or for the bills.
'I've got to get some work soon too,'
She thought, allowing her mind to dwindle on other subjects as the old scroll was causiously taken from it's tube and now visable in all aspects. From there she looked over to Nara and the strange man allowing them both to see the scroll.
"Is this the one you were looking for?"

Nara grabbed her hands tightly. They itched! Oh that was a scroll allright. Moving as if to look closer, Nara and her partner moved into position, the three adults forming a triangle around the scroll. As soon as they clicked, the relic's hands dissolved into green mist. The mist, cool and opaque, wrapped around Kris, Iian, and Nara. With a heavy thump, a young boy appeared. The mist solidified back into Nara's hands.
Bending over and breathing heavily, Nara watched the woman from under her bangs.

Eyes wide in both a sense of utter disbelief and horror wrapped into one Kris couldn't help but akwardly stare at the woman she'd just met who was now bending over near her as a slim green colored substance came from and then disappeared from the stranger's hands. She'd seen shootouts, life, death, crack addicts, abusive people, rude people, scary people, all sorts of walks of life, but never anyone like Nara.
'What the f*ck was that?!'
The young woman pondered, still staring in shock. As her pale blue eyes danced around the area they stuck on the strange man for a few seconds before knocking back into Nara, not even trying to peek downwards. She'd heard the noise, she'd seen this random child appear from nowhere infront of her eyes, and now what? What was she expected to say, or to do? These two were certainly the oddest bunch she'd ever encountered, and with any luck there weren't tons of those type ambling around the apartment.
"Wha..."
Kris only managed a few letters to release from her stiff mouth, it seemed as though was about to get much more interesting.

"Congratulations. You're a mommy," Nara's voice was coated with irony. "To a special kid. You leave him, you kill him." Slowly her breath was steadying out. Straightening out, Nara watched the young woman closely. "I have a card. He'll.. be a little unusual so if you see any weird changes, don't panic."
She began to fish around in her pockets for the cards she carried.

Kris' eyes directly cut to the image of the smallish boy sitting on the floor, rather content with a devilish grin about him. Her eyes widened as the words mommy danced around in her head entangled with the short ended 'kill'. To the young woman this all seemed a bit harsh, and a bit unrealistic. How could a child his size just automatically appear from a tube the size of that, from a scroll, from anything not alive. Shaking her head she studdered a moment,
"A little unusual? The darn thing just appeared from a scroll, yeah I'd say he's already well on his way past unusual..."
Her voice trailed, her tongue still dangling on it's last word as the boy stared up at her. He seemed alright, but then again something familiar presented itself to her, his grin was back, it was certainly not something she thought positive. It was purely in distaste for her, or at least, well maybe the years on the street were really making her paranoid. Afterall, he was only a kid.
".....Oh wow, Aoshi's going to be thrilled with this..."
Sarcastically she remarked, heavily stretching the word 'thrilled' as she managed to regain some common composure over herself.

Thrusting the card at Kris, Nara and her partner took off. They'd call back in a couple days and see how things were going but not now. Particularly if it sounded like the woman had a little explaining to do to her significant other.
((The end))
