Why isn't there a White History Month? There is a Black History Month, Hispanic Culture month and a bunch of weeks and days devoted to certain cultures. But why, in a country where we value equality, is there no White History Month?

When I have asked before, I have gotten such answers as "Every day is White History Month," "We don't deserve it," and "There is no such thing as White culture, it is too varied."

So my answers to that have been always looked down upon. As for every day being white history month, what are we reminded of when we look at White history? Let's give an example of my History class. This year we have learned about Africa, Latin America and India, among other things. When we learned about White People in those place, we went into and royally ******** everything up and ruined everything. Now my school has a Western history and American history so I am not attacking the class specifically. What I am saying, is that I have learned what terrible things white people have have done, but rarely of what bad things other races have done. We celebrate what great things Black people and Hispanics have done, but why not the white man? We have brought you many things such as:
Chicken Pox Vaccine
The Printing Press
The Computer
The Television
The Phone
The Post-Office
So, is the White man still not worth celebrating? Also, if you are learning about your country's history and it happens to have whites being a big part of it, it isn't WHITE HISTORY. It is only WHITE HISTORY, if you focus only on WHITES ON PURPOSE, like Black History Month does.

As for we don't deserve it, we do deserve it. Maybe those who went into to Africa to steal people for slaves or those involved in the Amritsar Massacre in India don't, but we didn't do those actions, even if our ancestors are related to them.

As for there being no White culture, maybe there isn't. But if there is no white culture, there is no Black Culture. If you disagree, I ask you to provide me something that they all have in common other than appearances. But White's still have history, mixed with good and bad. However, everyone feels so guilty for all the bad, e.g. slavery, giving small pox blankets to the natives, that we forget the good we have done. If other races get a month, in a country founded on equality, why shouldn't we?

Perhaps making a White History month would raise White Pride. I am not talking about the KKK or Nazi kind of White Pride, I am talking about having a little pride in your race. When people say Black Pride, it is looked upon as a good thing because they are being proud of who they are. When people say White Pride, it conjures up, not images of great past White people, but people in the South wearing a KKK outfit.

I believe it was last year, but on one season of Survivor, they created some controversy. The producers divided the teams based on race. It would have been no different than dividing them on hair or eye color, but it still caused much controversy. I remember Hispanic people rooting for the Hispanic team, the black people rooting for the black team, but the white people were awkwardly silent. Most of them were too afraid of appearing racist by wanting a white team to win.

But is giving these minorities a month actually belittling them? Think about it. When one refers to Abraham Lincoln, he is a "great AMERICAN president." Now, when one refers to George Washington Carver, he is a "great AFRICAN-AMERICAN scientist." Why not just a great scientist? Do we feel the need to specifically pick out there race and since they aren't the majority, we point them out, give them a pat on the head and treat? And this bring me to my next point...

The White race has done so much for society, and it doesn't have a month. By giving the other minorities are we somehow proclaiming ourselves on top saying ""We are so great, we don't need a month."

On the Television, I saw an ad for a "Black Adoption Agency." I wondered something. Would people be offended if it was a "white adoption agency" which only had white kids? My guess would probably be a "yes" because a lot of white people are afraid of being racist.

What I think should happen is one of the following:
I think we should make a White History month to celebrate all the great white people there have been over the years.
-or-
I think we should abolish all celebratory months because in a country where we believe in equality and establish an appreciation month for everyone or maybe for proffessions.
So, to discuss:
Should there be a white history month?
Should we get rid of all those months?
Why are white people so damn afraid of being racist?
Or anything else you find controversial in my post.

EDIT: I assume that these kind of normal ED topics are allowed here. I revamped one of my ED topics and put it here. I hope the level of discussion may go up.

eek A white history month? What in the ******** are you smoking? Of course we can't do that! We might offend a minority!

Quite honestly, what else can I say than that? We live in an age of political correctness where we almost have to apologize for being white in America... Actually, a student started a White History Club at his school and got sued for it... He did win the case though. (sorry, don't know where I got the article so I can't easily cite it)

But, honestly, that about sums it up... We're too damned worried about offending someone nowadays, and that's all it boils down to. We've just got to ******** grow some balls, accept that we've made mistakes, and get the hell over it at some point or another.

(I might edit more info into this post later... right now it's late and I'm not thinking straight)

I happen to be smoking crack, thank you very much. Just kidding.

But all jokes aside, white people are way too ******** PC these days. I am not apologizing for being white. I never owned a slave, ever. I don't know if my ancestors did and I don't care, I couldn't change it if I tried. I feel bad for your ancestors who were slaves, but the modern day black person isn't a slave of mine and I don't feel bad.

I would totally start a White History Club just for the controvesary but if I got it, I wouldn't knwo what to do. I would just want to see what would happen.

I've grown some balls and I say that white people need an appreciation month as well. Damned if I will be silenced.

This is an absolutely true topic. This topic is almost always shunned and untouched because they are afraid of being called racist.
Avenue Q had it right: Everyone IS a little bit racist.
A perfect example of why most people don't bring this up it right here: Whites only Guild thread. Read on to page three. He has a very good point.

I have actually in fact brought this up to my three best friends during Black History Month. I was shocked when I was quickly shot down by one of them. She said something along the lines of us not deserving one and then told me to be quiet. The other two quickly looked away. (Us four are all white, and we act much like a wolf pack. Alpha Beta Delta Gamma, They call me Alpha b***h because I like to argue and debate. So me and the one who told me to be quiet often conflict.)
I am a republican (hold fire, men!) and she is a democrat. I have a watchful eye on the latest political events and enjoy debating them, but every time I bring something debatable up, he silences it. I am getting aggravated with it.

And though I minorly expected the reaction from her, her tone of voice was not the usual. She was more defensive and quick. We are all white! So what?! Why cant we speak of it?

I admire the person who started the Whites Only Guild thread. Opinions count in this country, so why are so many white people ducking for cover?

I've never had the pleasure of meeting you, but hello!

I forget, did I mention Avenue Q in it? I put it in the original thread. Most of my friends are white and they didn't see a problem with this idea, however we all acknowledged that will probably never happen. Ever. Because we shouldn't celebrate the majority of the people in this country, right?

I am a democrat, but a weird one at that. I support gay marriage, abortion, but I am against gun control. I am also for the legalization of marijuana and prostitutes. Let's just say on general I choose democrat, though the no timeline thing fr IRaq pissed me off.

At my school, I'd like to create a caucasian club, open to all, but shows the good things cuacausians have done. Only thing is, I don't actually feel like running a club, but I think it is a good idea and I"d like to see how the community reacts.

Nice to meet you too. I've only just been invited to join, but I think I might put a link in my siggie already. Very enjoyable guild.

Yes, Avenue Q was not mentioned in your post. They adress topics that no one likes to touch, with puppets none the less! My friend won't even let me bring things up such as taking 'In God we Trust' off the coins.

I am a republican. I do not support Legal gay marriage. I think it should b e the churches desicion whether or not to marry them by religion. I am Pro-life. I am a hunter, so yeah. And I say until the job is done for Iraq.

I would have plenty of fun with that club.

My first intinct when I read that was to attack. But I have grown up since then, now I just poison them in their sleep. He he he....

But in my post on the ED, I had a poll that said "Are you racist?" and the only option that could be chosen was "Everybody's a little bit racist. (yay Avenue Q)"

I wouldn't take off "In God We Trust" off our coins. That is just taking things too far. I am tired of people saying things like that. I'd also like to know why you have those stances on those things, but this is particular thread is no the place to do it. Well, actually, sure why not do it here? It is not like bumping is going to ruin the thread, we are just discussing.

To start on gay marriage: Well if it the churches decision, that is okay. The only thing is that marriage is a legal issue, not just one of religion. This is the reason why atheists get married as well. By depriving people of that right, you are creating inequality between different types of people and what is America except a land that promises equality? There are many tax benefits for being married, as well as child custody and medical care for your spouse. And a really interesting thread to read is linaloki's thread about What the bible says about homosexuality. or you can go to http://www.wouldjesusdiscriminate.com His thread mainly shows the truth in what people say to deny people this right and the other website shows place that it does support it.

As for abortion, I think it is an unpleasant concept but it is not my decision of what a woman does with her body. If you make them illegal, then only illegals will give abortions and then people will die from it. also, if you think God has given each of them a soul, wouldn't abortion send them straight to heaven with God or would God know the baby was to be aborted and decided just to let the body be? Also, the woman may need to get rid of the baby for health reasons. Go ahead an not have an abortion, but you can't tell people what to do.

The Iraq thing I am unsure of. Should we stay because we ******** things up in the first place? OR should we leave because people are angry at us? The same people who welcomed us at first?

"For every complicated problem, there is a simple, and wrong, solution." - HL Mencken

This rule applies to Iraq, Abortion, Gay Marriage, and even the "Under God" on the coins, dollar bills, and Pledge of allegiance.

In Iraq, I'd like to know how we ******** up in the first place. We got rid of a man who experimented chemical weapons on his own people, and discriminated against one certain religion. Now we are trying to rebuild Iraq, while trying to cut down the terrorist forces so they can stand on their own two feet and stomp out their own terrorist's on their own. Eventually, this will happen, and patience is key, so the simple answer would be to wait. But then, the simple option is almost always wrong. Now comes the complicated part. If we have patience, how many lives will be lost, and how many more frustrated citizens will turn to means of violence to get us out? We are currently locked in. If we remove now, the country will go into turmoil and collapse within its self and they will point the finger at the US and say that if we hadn't pulled out, it wouldn't be like this. If we pull out to late, the amount of troops lost will be devastating to our armies, and the hurt American families who lost sons or daughters will point the finger at the US government, and tell them they pulled out too late. Timing is everything in this situation. That is why I believe that a time schedule wont do anything. Due to the Iraq being unstable, the time record could be set in place, and we slowly pull out, and seemingly Iraq is getting better. True, maybe it is, but as son as we're almost out, it could relapse back into its before state, and then we aren't there anymore (or at least not a significant amount) and they point the finger at us again, and say we pulled out too soon. Iraq, I believe, is a topic I do not go in depth into because of the fact in its current State, Iraq is just too hard to judge.

The difference between Murder and Abortion is four inches. Four inches. In partial Birth Abortion, the difference between an Abortion and Murder is if they kill the baby/fetus is if its head is showing or not. I they kill the kid when only the top of its head is showing, It's Partial-birth Abortion, and legal. If four more inches down from the top of the head is showing, it's murder. That is just too close for me, and I call it murder. You can't say that four inches makes the baby its own person. Whether you like it or not, the body is no longer just yours. It is yours and the babies. At twelve weeks a baby can kick, smile, clench its fist and do all sorts of things. That is a living thing, not something you can just decide you don't want. You can always put it up for adoption. Gay adoption should be legal, and so why not?
And again, simply no abortion would be the simple solution. Now we get into detail. Which deserves more of the right to live? The mother or the baby? Most would choose mother, simply because they refer to the baby as a fetus. I choose mother because she pays her share of taxes rolleyes . If the mother has life threatening conditions in association with her pregnancy, she should be able to get a free (or covered by health care) abortion to save her life. Just about everything in the constitution has an exception, even freedom of speech (Freedom of speech, except that it may ensue a riot [yelling fire in a crowded theatre]) Therefore, why not abortion?

Ah, I got my Gay marriage fixed up in my last post. Due to separation f Church and State, They should be able to get married in State, but it should be up to the church to allow it. The state shouldn't force the Church to accept Gays if they don't want to. Another simple solution, but again, we must go in depth. Many things come attached with Gay marriage like a little Gay Something Package. Gay rights, Gay Marriage, Gay adoption. Gay's are people. They should have the same rights. Gay adoption should be legal, as that would be discrimination. I actually happen to be Theist. Therefore, I simply believe in a higher power, or someone more superior than anyone in the world. I don't have a particular religion at all. I don't feel the need to call him God. I can call him Bob i I want. I can call her Ethel. I don't feel an obligation to go to church, as long as I have faith that this being is there. (Although, I do find guilty enjoyment in iGod.)

Last I heard, the statistic for people in our country for taking Under God out of the Pledge was fourteen percent of the nation. In a democracy, Majority rules, so is such a small percentage changing so much? Is it because of all their loud and bitchy whining? Signs point to yes.

Speaking of which, what are your views on Translating the pledge into Spanish and letting Mexicans who do not want to learn the English version say it in Spanish?

You have no idea how nice it is to get a god and mature debate going. At school, I am told to shut up. With my cousin's, they insist all gays are fat, ugly, and should be shot and Iraq should be turned into a parking lot. And with debating with my Dad, He growls at me when he starts to lose and keeps going until I finally give up and stay silent, where he then laughs at me.... Yeah.. this is very nice.

I read your prostitution thread, and was impressed. You have managed to get me from against prostitution to unsure about it. Very well written.

I find current history as it is defined within all countries in itself a racist effort against all races, especially in America. It's interesting to survey every country's history lessons within schools. My fiance claims that little history of America is taught in Holland, while it mainly focuses purely on what concerned them. And you know what? The same applies to America. Especially to America.

Essentially, there should be NO racial history months whatsoever. The term history implies past occurrence as a whole, not individualized as it seems to have become. 'Black' history is history. 'White' history is history. Since America is essentially a gumbo of races, would it not make sense to simply mark every country and racial triumph/failure as something worthy of historical study? Is it not appropriate that we study as 'Human' and not individualized by our appearances?

'_______' history months can suck my butt.

Ok, two of you seem to be talking about something else now. o_O

I don't believe there should be ANY racial history months in the US. Why would you have a white history month? There's nothing to be proud of when it comes to your race. You should be proud of your achievements. I just recently found out that you have such months in the US and I find it ridiculous.

And yes, I do think it's unecessary for a white man to be a well-known American and a black man a well-known African-American. Why is this necessary? And I don't want to get started on the term of African-American. It's horrendous. Not all black people in America come from Africa and not all people who come from Africa are black. Plus you're exluding the people who aren't recently from Africa. I mean, if your grandparents were born in the States how could you possibly be considered African-American. I find the term offensive to the actual African people.

Take the average black person in the US and put them in Africa. Chances are they won't feel at home. They're American. The culture is completely different.

Anyway, from what I'm seen in the US white people are having problems with being politically correct. All white people shouldn't demand their own history month, but should question the existance of months for other races. If the US wants to have an African month, that's fine. Even though Africa contains so many cultures it's very different from the American one. HOWEVER, this month would have to be in tribute to AFRICA, and not some black Americans who feel pride in calling themselves African.

I am completely against a white month too. And no, unless you had a European one I don't see how it would be about the "culture" of the majority of white people. Saying it's about pride is ridiculous. You don't need a white month to be proud. Be proud of your achievements and the achievements of your country. NOT achievements of those with similar traits like you. stare

It's only the US which really has such an enormous problem with this. And people of different colours around the world are all wondering what the hell is going on in your country. .___.

In the US both whites and blacks are racist. Not all of them, but I'm saying people in both races are. You've got the history. And I really have no ideas on how to stop this either. :/

But political correctness doesn't seem to be the answer.

The concept of "White History Month" in my opinion is pretty stupid. Now let me get this straight before I'm bombarded by flames.

For example, in Ontario, Canada, we don't have a "Brown History Month", rather we have a "South Asian Heritage Month".

The term white, brown, and even black are broad generalizations. If anything, there should be "North American History Month" or "European History Month", etc.

That would fare better.

You've come so far from innocence, provided all the consequence...

I find celebrating the fact that you're of a certain 'race' rather stupid. There is only one race, the human race, cheesy as that sounds. Celebrating things people in your country have accomplished can maybe be okay. But seriously, there's essentially no difference between black people and white people.

...only what does it matter now?

The things people will debate about... xp

As soon as white people become a minority, than we can have one.

Black history month is to celebrate things that a minority achieved, despite persecution.

If you really want this, go to Africa and give it a spin.
