i'm just curious, who likes plays and musicals? whats the best one you've seen and where?

i think mine is Spoon River Anthology at my high school. i know i live in a town with one of the biggestregional theatres, but this was the first show that made me cry. i only saw the second act though, because i had to be in the costume room the rest of the time. but it was so real to me. even though this was set to be in early 1900's, i could connect to the characters. they were so real, and they all shared our values. the set was beautiful, lighting was great, and the actors did wonderfully in their multiple roles. they did such a good job that one night, one of the actors had to leave halfway through, so a whole bunch of boys ended up taking his place to sing his songs. i didn't see that part, but it was delightful to know that they could come together to create that part again- even when the actor was gone.

I like musicals, and some plays. My friend is an acting major/minor (She can't decide which one it's going to be.) So she's always dragging me around to the different plays, or making me read screenplays and whatnot. Can't say I really have a favorite.

Gotta say that the best plays that I've ever seen were broadway plays.

Phantom of the Opera
RENT (I LOVE MARK COHEN)
Avenue Q
Lion King

And next October; The Rocky Horror Picture Show!!!

i think they're okii.
not my favorite forms of entertainment.
the best i've seen so far was a musical my school did.
we do one like every year.
it was called carmencita (sp?).
i still remember this red dress.
it was gorgeous.

i hate being in plays.
i always get nervous & forget my lines.

Most of the plays I've seen are Shakespearean.

Best ones I've seen:

A Midsummer Night's Dream as put on by my university. They took it all over the top and it was unbelievably hilarious.

Titus Andronicus. I got spit in the eye by Titus Andronicus. True story. Saw it at The Globe Theater, and my friend and I were standing right up front, practically underneath him while he was speaking, and...well, you can imagine the rest. It was brilliant though.

I love the theatre! My family and I used to go almost every other month to a big one, but we haven't really been out in awhile. The best shows I've seen (i.e.: my favorites) are The Lion King, which I had the fortune of seeing on Broadway with my high school band, and The Phantom of the Opera, which we managed to catch in London last time we went on vacation. Ah, good stuff!

One of my friends and I are hoping to go see Avenue Q when it comes to D.C. this November, and I'm hoping to heaven that that goes through.

But the above aside, I'm not obsessed with plays or musicals or anything. I just find them... REALLY fun to go see every now and then, you know? biggrin

I was amazing. Such an interesting way to see a play, it involved getting out of the way of the actors much of the time, and was great.

It rained for a little for one point, so we were soaked, and every time one of the actors had to say something like 'storm' or 'tempest,' they'd make a point to look up at the rain.

Best theater experience ever. Marvelous play, marvelous actors, marvelous setting, and gloriously bloody.
