A few days ago I just got a new nintendo DS (Laugh at the kid behind the times! Laugh at me, I say!) and I had a thought.
Do things colored pink really attract a female audience? I don't know any men who have a pink DS. Then again, I don't know any women who do either. If anything, I'm a little repulsed by the marketing scheme. Do girl gamers REALLY need something colored pink- just for them? Is that saying that they are different than male gamers? That they need to match their gamecube controllers with their purses? It baffles me, really.
In any case, I got a black one. All my electronics are shiny and black: my computer, my monitor, my Mp3 player, my Ps2...
I guess that makes me a supervillain. I like badass-looking electronics. Pink electronics turn me off. Pardon the pun.

personaly I hate pink anything! its just so.... sterotypical. My DS is dark blue but I want the red special edition mario cart version.... emo I can dream can't I?
Anyway, pink must have some kind of appeal twards females. I know that one of my friends who is a casual gamer (( nothing big, she only plays games on long road trips stuff like that)) She has a pink DS light, although I think her parents got it for her (( you know how parents think their little girl has to be pink so they get everything they can in pink)). It's actualy really funny because she let her friend barrow it (( a guy)) so now he gets teased for having a pink DS. And another friend of mine has a pink SP, cell phone, and DS and she still says she hates the color... I don't beleve her.
I think that Pink electronics have some appeal to almost-gamers but not to anyone who is really going to use it. Personaly? I am offended by the concept. Havn't people ever thaught outside the box? Pink has been done before and at this point its almost offencive. Some of my girl gamer friends (( who are actualy gamers not the almost-gamers I have been talking about)) prefer the light blue DS, it's cute I'll agree and a nice varriation from the pink..... I still want a red DS! crying

it must appel to girls, since they wouldn't do something that they aren't sure would work. nintendo is much to bussiness savy for that... but i don't like the color.. and sometimes it does bother me that they think that the only way i would buy a system is if its pink, just because i'm a girl!

Eh, not totally a pink fan. I like the silvery DS Lite better. If I had to go with another color, I'd take a purple or blue one. Pink...only if it was the only color available.

my mom's is black and mine is white. i debated getting a pink one for a little while. but when you see them there wayyyyyy too bright and shiny of a pink to want it.
but the idea is most def. not what you guys are thinking. the idea from nintendo wasnt that all girl gamers want pink ds lite's. the idea behind it was that it would appeal to the younger child female gamers who still also enjoy playin with barbie's and want pink soccer and softball kits.
i think nintendo's been in the game long enough to realize that they'll sell more black and white ds lite's to the older female gamers than they will pink ones.

I only like certain shades of pink... the pink on the DS is not one of these. Although it would be so cool to match my DS to my purse... *slaps self* BAD THOUGHTS!

Hmmm....I don't know...I still need to buy my own DS (I've been mooching off my brother's) and that pink one sure looks really sexy. mrgreen Then again, if they made one with sparkles and glitter on it, I'd go head over heels for that! mrgreen

Why' does everything have to be a sexist thing with you guys? I have a pink one and I love it cuz it's so pretty n shiny and i'm like the ony girl in the school with a pink one so it makes me feel all unique. @urban_samurai I've been playing video games since I was in 1st grade so how can you just assume that the pink ds is suppose to appeal to the younger gamers?
Also my friends call me the "the pimp" because of my pink ds and I tink thats kinda coo 4laugh
...So screw all you pink haters.

and it's quite simply this... a)i said YOUNG FEMALE GAMERS! and, 2)believe me when i say, when you work in a video game store since the inception of a system and it's color variations (meaning pink and black for the ds lite), you start to wonder when the only people you sell pink ds lites to is either, parents for the 7 year old daughters or the 7 year old daughter, in general.
it's nothing against gamers period. that's just the way i see it....and ohhh what was it...theres a word for it :ponders like pooh: think, think,....ohh bother......TREND!!!!! thats right, i believe it's called a trend. a word used highly in the economics industry to help study patterns of what is bought by who.

" choose your wording more carefully next time. I was'nt calling anybody sexist I said "Why does everything have to be a sexist thing with you guys" as in you (the people in the guild) always think someone is trying to put girls down or stereotype them or something like that.

Honestly, I'm repulsed at the color pink. I don't think they should appeal to girls with a pink DS, i actually would like a green one. =D

Why is pink automatically considered a "girl" color?
My brother likes pink. I prefer black, blue, etc, but I have nothing against pink (why would I waste my emotions hating a color?). My DS is white because that was the only color in stock, but I requested a pink ipod for my birthday (and got one).
Does that make me more or less girly?
Marketers want to make things accessible to everyone. They want to offer variety and customizability. If having a certain color makes you love the product more, what's wrong with that?
Personally, I think they should keep adding MORE colors to everything. I like being able to compare and choose. =P

I agree.. variations would totally rock..
I own a pink DS... they were out of everything else...
My brother actually wanted the pink one. And yes he's 25 and straight...
I'm not one who enjoys pink on me... but I'm kind of glad that my DS stands out from the other things in our game room... makes it a hell of a lot easier to find. XD
